yeah i dunno. I mean im not into cartoon porn, but Cheryl is clearly written/drawn to be attractive in a very repressed smutty way, and is meant to be perceived as such, and it does create cognitive dissonance for me that she is voiced by someone whom I find objective repulsive/unattractive. I think Judy Greer's eyes are too wide set, I hate her hair, and her body is nothing all that great to me. I don't really think she's especially attractive. I appreciate her delivery and what she does with the character though.

Kreiger is funny but every now and then he goes on a nonfunny streak. I don't think cheryl ever says anything that isn't hilarious, although i don't remember much from the first season of her other than her wanting to be choked etc.

So if I wanted to get into this show now could I jump right in and watch new episodes with some re-runs mixed in, or are there a continuous storyline that I would need to watch from the beginning?

Most of the 'major' plotline things occured in season 2. The kid, the dead wife, barry's broken legs, etc... but these things are referenced like once every other episode and only in a 1 liner or so.

I mean the main character had a kid halfway through the last seasonish and I think i've seen it maybe once since then and its been referenced maybe 2 or 3 times since then.

while its not necessary I'd recommend catching up on season 1 and 2

mostly because season one was teh best

but as far as understanding it, as mentioned you miss some references and jokes but no big deal

No, somebody posted a story where they erroneously posted the premiere date as the one from last year. The premiere last season was 9/15/11, which was a Thursday. I got messed up by a story I saw saying the same thing. Regardless it was wrong.
