^^ Do you drop the rope when you shortline wakeskate?

We did that Saturday, only it was wakesurfing instead of wakeskating. One of the guys (crazy) decided to try to bodysurf the wake. He actually did it for a good 15 seconds. Pretty wild. And dangerous.

^ That's awesome. Yoga usually helps me with soreness after skiing, but that may not be as appealing to guys.

I prefer to use my mop bucket son.

I'm surprised you've never tried that, being a janitor and all like me son.

Barefooting is only badass if you can pull off a deep water start. Starting with a boom or kneeboard is for sissies as well.

That said, the guys I was with on Saturday tried to pull off a deep water start behind a weighted wakeboard boat with 10 people aboard. He was doomed. No way in hell.

Most water sports are easier for girls, at least girls who have metaphorical balls. We're lighter and easier to pull behind a boat.

That said, how the heck am I the only chick in this thread?

A lot of girls have trouble wakeboarding because it takes so much upper body strength. Surfing on the other hand was practically made for you. Y'all ride so long everyone else in the boat is like "Damn, when am I gonna get a chance?" I think anyone under 150 lbs has a huge advantage for surfing.

Why not wakeboard after work? You can get a run in.

LKG is not a close drive to Raleigh

oh and I too, am awaiting Friday. May just be a quiet weekend of getting some pulls from my pops.

Yeah, I really need to bring one of my old boards back to Raleigh and meet some people around here to ride with. None of the guys I know who have boats in Raleigh ride during the week though.

Raleigh lakes aren't that great ... I forget.

In Orlando, there's ample opportunity for after-work ski/wakeboard runs. In addition to lakes, we have a huge watersports complex that's great for beginners and those seeking consistent conditions: http://www.orlandowatersports.com/

Yeah, I'm planning a trip to OWC this winter. I was going to go last year, but ended up taking a snowboarding trip to Lake Tahoe instead.

There is talk of a cable park between Raleigh and G-Boro in 2010. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

If you need other wakeboarding hookups while you're in Orlando, feel free to hit me up. I live on a private ski lake.

Also, Adam lives about 20 miles from OWC, so you may want to hit him up while you're in town, if you know him.

I don't really know him. We've been on the same boat together a couple of times and I see him around the lake, but we don't hang out or anything.

I might be up for some boat time while I'm down there. One of my friends who also rides wakes has an apartment in Orlando, so I've got the place to stay covered.

bttt. I ended up staying the entire weekend...parents were there so i ate good, didnt have to pay for gas, and had free beer for the weekend. It was a good weekend..

My brother's family came up saturday afternoon, so i spent a lot of time on the tube saturday and sunday but i got a lot of riding in too.

I actually learned to ride switch for the first time this weekend...that was one of the reasons i could never advance on a skateboard because I was semi-retarded when it came to riding switchstance, but i spent a lot of time riding switch saturday morning and for the first 2-3 pulls its was so awkward, but i finally got used to it. My dominant leg kept wanting to swing around front though, so it'll take me awhile to really do anything other than ride center wake that way.

I taught my brother (32) to board this weekend, got him up on the 6th or 7th pull (it took me 13-14 tries). It's a funny sight seeing a first timer finally get up and try and get their legs under them while riding..but he rode pretty well. Had 3 runs down the lake just getting up and getting used to the feeling of being pulled. I'm sure he'll be itching to ride again next time they come up.

Neck and shoulders are sore from the tube..

oh, and caught some big F'n catfish this weekend.

I rode Friday evening. Two of us got great water before some Centurion set up in the same creek and started power turning. I felt bad because the owner of the boat (a Wakesetter VLX) got stuck with the shitty water) I told him to take the water while it was good and he refused so I guess it's his own fault that he got stuck.

Rode Sunday morning behind my boat. The vodka bomb I poured on the dock at 7:00 a.m. got a few lols. It was just one drink though to get me going.

There is talk that the Lake Gaston contest that I posted about might be cancelled due to economic conditions. Hopefully it won't happen though.

Boarder's Best Buy has the CWB Lotus combo for $240 shipped today. That's a pretty good price.

Thanks for the recommendation. That's a great deal, though I'm contemplating getting a beginner board from craigslist. And a vest. I have to borrow a guy's vest right now (my ski gear is at Kerr Lake) and I feel like I'm about to drown every time I get in the water.

Do you think it's safe to get a wakeboard from craigslist? Not sure how good it is to go for used equipment with this sport.

I got a surfboard for $60 on craigslist and it was awesome ... but I did a ton of research. And there may be a better site for finding used wakeboards.

Definitely. There are some good deals from time-to-time on CL. I'd bet there are a lot more in Orlando since that has been the wakeboard capital of the world for the last 20 years. Here are some things I sent to another user who was looking at a used board:

Quote :
"There are two things to look for aside from being really beat up:
- De-lamination...The board is made of several layers and they can start to separate. You'd notice it by looking at the edge of the board all the way around. If any layers are starting to come apart then it'll get a lot worse pretty quickly. A lot of companies will replace the board for free throughout it's lifetime if this ever happens and people usually come out a lot better for it happening, but you never know how they will treat you if you're not the original owner. Hyperlite gave a friend of mine a brand new Byerly last summer to replace the 7 year old board that he bought used from another friend, so I know they're pretty good to deal with. I can't speak for any other companies.

- Look at all the metal inserts for the bindings to screw into. They'll be threaded metal holes. These can start to pull out of the board or they may be missing already which would leave a blank hole that you can't screw your binding into. The bad thing is that it always happens to the holes that you actually need to use. It would be best if you could take a binding screw (or borrow one from the board's owner), screw it in a little way, and give it a tug to make sure the insert is still in there tight. He could always just stick it in there loose if it came out for some reason."

Quote :
"Closed toe bindings just came out a few years ago. They supposedly give a little more control, but the difference is minor at best. I'd look for a nice set of open toe boots if you're on a budget. Check all the clearance shops and eBay for deals. Overtons has an "Outlet" section on their websire that usually has some good deals. Keep an eye on these sites for good deals too:

No riding tomorrow a.m. The three guys in my regular crew this year are all out of town this weekend. None of the tag-alongs that show up from time-to-time are up either. Oh well, got someone coming up tomorrow afternoon who can give me a pull Sunday morning. Tomorrow is looking like a lazy day of playing cornhole and drinking with the neighbors.

WHEW!!!
7:00 a.m. was hurting this morning.
I was struggling to get my gear and get on the boat. Felt so good to get out and ride in the fog on glass water though.
(We took the supra on the right side of the pier...That's my neighbor's boat.)

It's getting cold. I'm wearing my heater shirt when I ride now although it is probably a little premature.

Finally fixed the stereo on the boat last weekend. Sony CD player with wired and wireless remotes hooked to a 5 Channel Kicker Amp driving four sony marine speakers, two Liquid Audio tower speakers, and a 12" Kicker Solo-baric subwoofer. She bangin' son!

We've got some pretty decent ski lakes, though I'm partial to Kerr Lake in NC. Everything here is so much smaller. But the mansions on some of these lakes are epic. Makes for a pretty cool backdrop. I've never been on Lake Brantley. A little nervous about the gators. I hear it's a little infested with gators.

It really was a perfect day for wakeboarding! Sunny and 90 degrees. Adam was worth every penny. I rode over an hour. My arms are jello, but I learned to jump the entire wake and I can ollie much better now. He's awesome.

Dude, you should take a lesson with Adam. I went to middle/high school with him and he's a pro now, running a school in Longwood. I learned a LOT today. It's really worth it. He'll help you identify exactly what you're doing wrong and what you can do to fix it and feel comfortable out there.

I completely suck at wakeboarding, but i'm progressively getting better. I can clear the entire wake now in one jump.

Here's me getting a lil' air out at Falls Lake.

Still completely sore from Saturday's ride. OWWWWW 1 and 1/2 hours may have been overkill, but it was a good lesson.
