Former NC State basketball player Anthony Grundy and current UNC football player AJ Blue both got DUI's recently. Grundy's was yesterday, and Blue's was last weekend.

Grundy's WRAL article appears on the front page of wral.com, right next to articles about statutory rape and indecent liberties. The article came out the day following the DUI, complete with a mugshot.

Blue's WRAL article appears buried in wralsportsfan.com and is not even listed on wral.com. The article came out 3 days after the DUI and does not feature a mugshot.

and whoever wrote Grundy's article felt the need to include this little gem at the bottom of the story:
Quote :
"On Sunday, former N.C. State guard Gavin Grant was charged in connection with a September home invasion."

and link to the Grant story in the "Related News" section.

Yeah, I thought that^ was pretty telling.

Next thing you know, they'll run a story on Corchiani having unpaid parking tickets or something.

fair enough, i guess, we know who grundy and grant are because they were fairly good basketball players.

and yet, 3 weeks ago, the best UNC football player of all time --

-- OF ALL TIME --

-- pleaded guilty to knowingly hiring an abused 16-year-old prostitute. a search on wral.com reveals no mention.

i mean, if former players are fair game, why no mention of LT? is it because he wasn't a star, or because the crime wasn't remarkable? gotta be one of those.

I think Grundy's story was featured prominently because Grundy was an immensely popular athlete in the Triangle

Whereas AJ Blue's story was buried because who the fuck is AJ Blue I've never even heard of him

I don't see why providing related stories is an issue. Especially when a paper written by Tar Heels does it to one of their own.

^ I'd like to read the article (can't access at work).

From those two sentences, Parrish is correct that we currently cannot compete and we can't land a big name coach. Maybe Yow can change the latter.

^^Parrish says NCSU will never compete and that compared to Duke/UNC, has no tradition.

He's pretty much flat out wrong on this issue.

Saying it's the worst best-paying job in college hoops merely because of proximity to UNC / Duke is laughable. Some fans are unrealistic.

On the whole, most State fans are pretty f'n patient. See 1990-2006.

getting criticism from the Winston-Salem paper

http://www2.journalnow.com/news/2011/feb/18/wssport01-nc-states-obrien-on-a-diet-of-cupcakes-ar-793995/

Quote :
"N.C. State's O'Brien on a diet of cupcakes

Fresh off a bowl win, N.C. State looks just about ready to play the big boys. Too bad, because Coach Tom O'Brien didn't put any big boys on the 2011 schedule.

O'Brien controls the nonconference matchups, and he scheduled four likely wins rather than invigorating his Carter-Finley customers.

State's most courageous foray is a trip to Cincinnati, a roller-coaster Big East team that finished 4-8. The other three opponents will travel to Raleigh: Central Michigan (3-9, 2-6 Mid-American) and two teams that don't even belong to the top NCAA subdivision, Liberty (8-3) and South Alabama (10-0)."

I thought the AD controlled the OOC matchups, and the coach has a "say" in it, if you will..

Then we lost Wilson and Irving. Who knows what we'll field next season. I don't mind a softer schedule, if nothing more than to see what we've got on our hands. It's not like a tough, though OOC schedule would make a difference either way.

Aren't the schedules made many years in advance? And IIRC, we had Tennessee scheduled but it was moved to 2012 season because of the Chic-Fil-a kickoff thing....whatever.

The schedule sucks in terms of hype for these games, but losing Irving, Spencer, Williams, Davis, and RW makes it so that I'm totally fine with not playing a tough OOC line up at all when we're gonna be breaking in an entirely new offense. But yeah I don't think you can blame TOB for the poor schedule and to be honest after a 9-4 I'd rather have some guaranteed wins than a tough schedule. I'd like to see a much better schedule after we've established the program for a few years. That guy needs to realize the positives in that - I also don't think it was TOB's decision to bounce VT and replace them with Virginia and that knocks our schedule down a lot too.

He's a journalist...not a State fan. He doesn't have to realize the positives in having a cake schedule...he has to comment on how shitty it is so his website can get hits and State fans can act like babies about it. There is no reason to complain about that write-up. If UNC has the same schedule as us and the same article gets written, we're calling them out on the schedule and applauding the author for calling them out.

There's a difference between weak and playing East Butt Fuck State twice in on season

We have to win 7 games just to get to a bowl

Like Ernie said, it's 5 FBS wins either way. And we should have no problem beating Liberty and S. Alabama. I don't like playing 2 FCS teams in a season but as far as bowl eligibility goes, it really doesn't make it any harder to become bowl eligible.

The point is that you have 10 games to get those 5 wins instead of 11

Technically we can still be bowl eligible if we lose to East Butt Fuck State, as long as we beat West Butt Fuck State plus 5 other FBS teams.

But that would be really terrible.

I just would have guessed, as fans, you would at least like to see one or two more entertaining games. We don't have to have all tough games, but we could have found at least one decent team to replace one of the cupcakes. I don't think that's asking too much.
