^ Not to mention the clicking screen is the worst design ever since you have to push down it's impossible to type fast.

Current name for the storm 2 is the Odin. Apparently it doesn't have the click screen though.

i hear the Storm is amazing with the lastest rim releases (not sure if that's redundant, i don't feel like re-googling the acronym). I just assumed it to be equivalent to the updated roms and os's that are floating around for the PPC[Edited on May 21, 2009 at 10:49 AM. Reason : .]
5/21/2009 10:49:10 AM
the .148 OS thus far is leaps and bounds better then .075, which is the current official OS from Verizon. All other Storm carriers are on .141.
5/21/2009 11:01:39 AM
Are there any smart phones making use of Open Source development?
5/21/2009 11:57:53 AM
every phone....i take it you are referring to the OS though instead of applications - in that case there isn't a fully open source OS for mobile devices that's being used in the retail world
5/21/2009 12:01:57 PM
I will likely do some development for this phone when it is released ... I think that also means I will probably be purchasing one too.Very much looking forward to it.

bah, i'm getting tired of these exclusive phonesno way i'm switching to sprint for this[Edited on May 22, 2009 at 8:26 PM. Reason : .]

mine is on the way as of today, can't wait.
5/23/2009 12:15:46 AM
Out of curiosity, how did you get one early?
5/23/2009 12:50:55 AM
Looks like verizon will be getting the pre before the end of the year.http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE54R4TP20090528
5/29/2009 9:44:07 AM
guess that kind of axes the iphone in 2010 rumor...i see no reason to have two competing phones like that on one network
5/29/2009 10:29:19 AM
^ huh?Verizon is going to have the Storm 2 (which might not suck), the Android based G1, and now the Pre.It's not a bad thing for them to also get the iPhone. It would make Verizon the clear leader in terms of good choices though.
5/29/2009 10:33:06 AM
The first official reviews are in ... and the verdict is good, not perfect, but a real solid good.http://gizmodo.com/5277499/palm-pre-reviewhttp://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/palm-pre-review/I'm looking forward to this phone.
6/4/2009 1:06:18 PM
I do not see the attraction in this phone you guys seem to have.....
6/4/2009 4:02:15 PM
Fwiw, I've never had an intense appreciation for the iPhone as it seems so many do. I like what it tried to do, but never really enough to actually buy one.To each their own.
6/4/2009 4:10:23 PM
^^me either. Looks like a cheap Chinese iPhone knock off. It even broke in their review. It looks too round and fat like a playschool toy. I read the reviews and don't see a single thing it does better than the iPhone 3.0. Its such a blatent knock off.
6/4/2009 9:19:58 PM
the video here is the best overview of real-world use i've seen so far. it focuses almost exclusively on the software, which is where it challenges iPhone the mosthttp://www.precentral.net/palm-pre-review
6/4/2009 9:33:57 PM
I thought of what it reminds me of. The Jitterbug
6/5/2009 8:34:53 AM
how many of you assholes were at the cary store today?
6/6/2009 10:10:10 PM
Hi, one was me. I own a Pre, and it's pretty great. Much pleased.
6/6/2009 10:40:35 PM
so was stock plentiful or did people have to wait in line?i wanna hear what people who picked up this phone today think.
6/6/2009 10:55:18 PM
Cary store had 65 and was sold out by 3pm. Touchstones were gone by 10am
6/7/2009 10:13:25 AM
I bought mine from the Crossroads store, dunno how many they had, but I was there by late morning and managed to get one. There wasn't a crazy line, I think I waited for maybe 30-45 mins, but it didn't seem like a long time. Of course, they did have like 8 salespeople manning desks, so they got through everyone pretty quickly.I'm really enjoying how intuitive the phone feels, and I like how small it fits in my hand and also how very comfortable it is in my pocket. The ads really make it look huge, but it is nothing like the Jitterbug ... and while it looks fat in the ads, I really don't feel like it is in person.I haven't been back to the store, but when I was there they had 2 demo units along the right wall when you walk into the Crossroads store. Or I guess you could keep your eyes peeled for someone with one and ask to check it out.The integration with email, contacts, and calendar is really brilliant by the way. So simple and effective you wonder why no one thought of it before. Only thing that bothers me (and I'm sure they'll push a software update to solve this problem) is that it pulls in ALL of the gmail contacts and ALL of the facebook friends and there is no way to only pull specific contacts. Still, it's brilliant. Also, the messaging interface is really nice, I really like the unified SMS/Gtalk interface, I imagine they'll add support for other messaging protocols, can't be that difficult.Overall, I don't feel like this is anything mind-blowing, it really just feels natural and easy to use. A few software updates are definitely in order to fix some small bugs, but I am extremely satisfied so far.[Edited on June 7, 2009 at 10:28 AM. Reason : .]
6/7/2009 10:27:11 AM
played with one yesterday and my wife wants one but until a tethering app comes out and they fix the contacts problem she's outi love the interface as a whole - it's slightly slow to open new apps but not as bad as the reviews made it out to be i think ]]
6/7/2009 11:17:24 AM
So far really pleased with the two PREs in our house. We got ours at the Brier Creek store, waiting in line about an hour before open and came home with two phones and one touchstone. The matte back that comes with the touchstone looks great on the phone BTW - prefer it to the glossy I think.WebOS is obviously the star here. The OS is innovative and beautiful. Sure, bugs and the occasional slowdown here and there but nothing compared to what I saw in early iPhone releases (and hell, even now). I haven't had an app crash on me yet.OTA software updates a big +. Camera's pretty damn impressive: http://twitpic.com/6sf4zCould write a ton more, but overall two very happy Sprint users here. Not to mention, with some creative accounting I was able to pay only a couple dollars more over my SERO plan - which destroys AT&T plans. For my travel (mostly in large cities, rarely too far out in rural areas), I've never had coverage issues (I'm usually in DC, California, Florida, or NC).If anyone has ?'s - just lmk. Oh - and I have a 2g 8GB iPhone I'll be getting rid of at some point if anyone wants to make an offer
6/7/2009 10:47:20 PM
^ I thought they only allowed activation on one of the "Simply Everything" plans.
6/8/2009 7:54:32 AM
GF got one its a great phone. I think it rivals the iphone in functionality (i really like the hardware keyboard too)..Well have to see how apps work out, but between that and the iphone, i think general usage the pre has some pluses. I really liked the multitasking ability, it still annoys me that i cant switch between apps ont he iphoen without going to the home screen. Battery life however, sucks donkey balls.
6/8/2009 8:04:51 AM
^^They do force you to use one of those plans. In my case, however, I explained and showed them why it was cheaper for me to move to AT&T to couple my plan with my gf so they offered me a bit of a incentive that immediately made my plan more valuable and only slightly more expensive than the cheap Fair&Flexible plan I was grandfathering along. I think it helps that I've been with them for over 9 years.^The multitasking is awesome, it'll take me some time to figure out the right mix to maintain battery life ... I think there's a good reason for the Touchstone to just set it down and charge it, but I'll be damned if I actually buy that thing at $70, don't think so!Part of the problem right now might be that I toy with it so much because it's so new. But definitely the battery consumption is a small issue that I'm willing to trade for multitasking.[Edited on June 8, 2009 at 8:16 AM. Reason : .]
6/8/2009 8:12:49 AM
Is the size of the keyboard an issue?
6/9/2009 8:35:40 PM
Take it for what you will, but I really enjoy the keyboard. Also, I was showing it off at work ... so, my boss regularly (and has for a while) uses a WinMo smartphone w/ physical keyboard (can't remember which) ... I put him into the Memo app, and after typing out a few lines of text he said, "while I probably typed half as fast as I normally would, I didn't make any mistakes, that's impressive, I bet I'd get faster after using it."I'd say the same personally, I don't make many mistakes over time. It feels right in my hand, and performs very well.[Edited on June 10, 2009 at 12:43 AM. Reason : .]
6/10/2009 12:42:45 AM
have you cut your hand on it yet?
6/10/2009 12:50:04 AM
Oh and that is way overrated ... I mean, unless they have ultra-baby-soft hands??? Or maybe those reviewers worked for the TSA? I mean, since they won't let me board with a knife in my pocket any more, I had to find a replacement ... so I'll be damned if they try to take my knife-blade-Pre away the next time I fly!But seriously, I dunno who cut themselves on it, it's entirely a non-issue.Anyone in Raleigh, message me if you'd like to see it and we'll work out a time, or swing by a Sprint store to see their demo units. It's worth seeing in person even if you're not remotely interested in purchasing.

Thinking long and hard about dumping my iPhone for one.
6/10/2009 10:05:04 AM
I don't really have any pull right now since I just renewed my 2 year agreement on an incorrect 0.00 add-a-line for the free rant as a temporary replacement for my mogul. And still have 1 year left on my primary SERO 1250. I doubt eCare would be that generous and they'd probably try to correct the second line again. I'll settle for my buddy's touch pro when he gets the new iphone.
6/10/2009 10:14:29 AM
Haha, so in a related note, Developer Mode is enabled when you type the following phrase on the main screen:

6/10/2009 11:01:25 AM
6/10/2009 11:46:49 AM
I want one of these...I'm with SERO, have been for about 18 months, and have an HTC Touch that's truly a piece of shit. But I only have a $75 refund. Does anyone know the price of these for current SERO customers? I need a new phone anyway, but I don't know if I'm just gonna take advantage of the Total Equipment Protection thing or actually shell out for one.
6/10/2009 12:59:09 PM
Anyone had to put paper in with the battery to make it fit tighter and not cause random reboots when closing the keyboard?
6/10/2009 2:11:52 PM
^^ Phones that push the Simply Everything plans such as the Instinct and Pre are not available for SERO customers.
6/10/2009 5:51:52 PM
How does this phone compare to the Instinct?
6/10/2009 8:32:46 PM
apples and ..... rotten applesThe Instinct is a piece of junk
6/10/2009 9:44:12 PM
Yeah, in no possible way was I even remotely suggesting the Instinct to be in line with the Pre.
