There were a TON of trucks there when we got to Eldorado. We were the caravan with 2 trucks loaded down with 4wheelers and 3 jeeps. We had the mildest looking rigs out there. There were some pretty sweet rigs on the trails. The trails are closed until April I think, but you're more than welcome to come out next time we go. I'll prolly have room for a passenger in the XJ if you wanna roll.

12/8/2008 1:04:53 PM
pshhh, thats cuz ya'll didn't see the shaft shattering zj on slick 31's open/open. which i might add has make it up that ledge several times un assisted.this upcoming weekend it closes for winter i believe.[Edited on December 8, 2008 at 1:11 PM. Reason : i'm coming at that shit like a spidermonkey next time]
12/8/2008 1:09:47 PM
Yeah, I'm trailering my jeep down there next time. I couldnt do anything TOO crazy cause I still had to make sure I could drive it home!Funny you should mention the spidermonkey thing...I've been calling my jeep "Project Spidermonkey" since I first started, haha

Well, I almost flipped the fucker on a muddy downhill on my way out of the trail. I was honestly teetering and luckily was able to reverse it and get the other 2 wheels back on the ground.I also did 99% of the work on my jeep myself, which 75% of the stuff I'd never done before (transfer case, sye, rear main seal, etc....so I didnt know if I could trust it or not for a 200+ mile trip, PLUS some moderate wheel action. This thing's been sitting for 6 years. Hadnt been inspected since 2002, so I had 0 confidence in the durability of this thing.
12/8/2008 3:32:37 PM
yeah man, el dorado was full to the brim with rigs. when me and the girlie pulled in we were like "damn!" how much have ya'll put into your rigs?
12/8/2008 3:37:56 PM

12/8/2008 7:32:31 PM
harlan, motherfuckerslook at that passenger - best fucking crawling passenger ever
12/8/2008 7:41:22 PM
I was working at my dad's shop (car garage) a few years ago and the customer's bill was $250. She didnt want to pay it, so just gave us the jeep instead. I paid my dad the $250 and parked it out back of the garage for 4 years. Just brought it to Raleigh 2 months ago to start building it up.
12/8/2008 9:43:12 PM
I want to go to Uwharrie sometime, but my Jeep is almost entirely stock. Would it be worth it for me to take an '05 TJ on 31" tires, or should I start with something else first?
12/8/2008 9:57:06 PM
Man, you could ride pretty much all of the "moderate" trails out there with a basically stock jeep. One of the guys I was with was in a completely stock TJ on SLICK street tires. He did say he had a 2" lift, but I dont believe it. I'd try it.
12/8/2008 10:01:59 PM
Jeeps are lame. except adams...he wheels that shit by braille, much like I do. I would say I have probably 11-12K in my hunk of shit. Maybe more...but off the top of my head i know of about that much.
12/8/2008 10:35:28 PM
and you can do every trail out there like you are. been with multiple people with your setup and less that have a BLAST out there. Dont let anyone tell you that URE is hard and will destroy your shit.
12/8/2008 10:36:50 PM
i wheeled every trail at uwharrie(note i didnt say every obstacle) in my cherokee on 30stake your TJ, youll have a blast, but it probably would be best to go with someone who has been a time or two
12/8/2008 10:49:14 PM
damn those pictures are baller as fuck. so how long did it take ya'll to build your ride up?
12/8/2008 11:35:23 PM
a long couple of years for me. started out with a sorry ass stock truck. lots of nights, lots of money, lots of beer, and lots of help from friends. Its never done. Never will be. I will sell it/part it out and build a buggy eventually once it gets too beat to wheel anymore, but ill cross that bridge when i get there.
12/9/2008 1:16:15 AM
I've got about 2 months in mine...it'll never be finished.
12/9/2008 1:28:07 AM
they're pretty cool. I love seein pics like that, put some more up! lol
12/9/2008 2:24:28 AM
Anyone up for a day run this sunday?
12/10/2008 8:45:12 PM
we'll be up there camping out friday, saturday, and wheeling all of those days and some sunday.
12/10/2008 8:57:24 PM
who all's going?
12/10/2008 10:15:47 PM
a lot of the guys from webwheeling.com.
12/10/2008 10:26:38 PM
I may just be able to make it, but I need to check out my rear ball joint, I think its spent and potentially about to break. Would be a first for me, also would be mighty ugly underneath.
12/10/2008 10:46:45 PM
i might go, still kinda undecided. i'm kind of bored of taking the zj there. maybe if i find a locker or matt lets me run his 35's if i promise to be nice to them.
12/11/2008 12:36:58 AM
im sure he will be glad to let you
12/11/2008 12:40:18 AM
haha, i told him tonight i was going to take them and he was like "but they'll get torn up". i was like "nah, i think they'll fit without rubbing, at least not too bad". he goes "yeah, not what i'm talking about".
12/11/2008 12:53:59 AM
they are fucking 35in tires! made to be torn up, not sit stacked in a garage.
12/11/2008 1:11:53 AM

12/11/2008 2:45:32 AM

12/11/2008 7:45:35 PM
anybody been camping out there in mid-July? I'm thinking about taking a trip out there to do some fishing and maybe hit a couple trails. just didn't know if it was unbearably hot at night during mid-July to be sleeping in a tent.
6/16/2009 10:58:52 AM
Heading out for a day trip on Saturday June 27.Anyone else goin? I dont have my cage built yet, so it'll be a mild trip.
6/16/2009 11:41:32 AM
you dont need a cagedoors would be nice though^^camping in mid july huh? I been in August once, we had a camper though with a 120v AC unit and it was great. Without the AC, MISERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
6/16/2009 7:54:16 PM
Heh. I absolutely need a cage. The doors are on it too I also welded up a rear tire carrier...no more tire on the roofrack.[Edited on June 17, 2009 at 8:36 AM. Reason : .]
6/17/2009 8:21:53 AM
weather.com reports average lows of 68 in mid-July which is bearable. plus I'm hoping that late night dips into Badin Lake will cool things off. maybe its not such a great idea...especially with the kids. maybe better to get into some higher elevation. anyone know of some easy trails further out west with tent camping.
6/17/2009 9:37:16 AM
anyone ever been to Brown Mountain?http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/brown_mountain_orv.pdf
6/17/2009 12:16:43 PM
IIRC, a friend of ours has but if you look at that info- only 2 of the trails are open to 4wd, most of it is ATV or bike trails.
6/17/2009 12:36:07 PM
I'mma go out there and shoot up some shyte on dat range son.
6/17/2009 12:38:48 PM
^^ yeah i noticed that. i'm not trying to do any crazy 4 wheelin. just wanted to get up on a trail. figured it would be a good mid-morning run up to the summit and have some lunch on the ridge then head back down. I'm running a stock QX4 and my buddy will be in his stock disco and we are gonna have the wife and kids with us. We just wanted to have a reason to put it in 4WD. We'll spend the rest of the day hiking and huntin for waterfalls, swimming holes and trout in the Wilson Creek Gorge.
6/17/2009 12:57:17 PM
let us know how it is, we talked about going but vetoed due to the lack of trails. i'd be interested to hear.
6/17/2009 3:02:11 PM
ok will do. trip is set for July 17th. I'll post pics and give details.
6/17/2009 3:51:08 PM
brown mountain sucks. i imagine it'll feel pretty rad in your stock qx4 though. and fuck camping in general at any time of year. it's an unfortunate means to an end...[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 1:07 AM. Reason : .]
