Yeah, we have a lot of solid guys being red-shirted. Next year or two should be interesting assuming we can stay healthy.

Pardon me, let me do a politician esque retraction and backpedal:I'm not saying we won't be as good as those teams for a small stretch of time, I'm just speaking in terms of the entire scope of the program. If you think we're going to become some perennial powerhouse like those teams that were mentioned, you're fucking insane. But that's a symptom of being an NC State fan, I know, it happens to the best of us.And as far as the Jimmy V argument goes, I love his enthusiasm, I love "Don't give up, don't ever give up", I love the cheerleading that that quote lends itself to, but come the fuck on, I'm tired of it being brought up in every situation.Would I love NCSU to be a top tier team? Of course. But that's a fucking pipedream when looking at it in our current situation.Rather, I'd like to be a respectable football team that plays hard that, if it performs up to the best of its ability, has the chance to make an ACC title game. Now, if we get that, then I may revise my long term vision of the program, but that step comes first before anything else.[Edited on October 17, 2008 at 2:45 PM. Reason : .]

I don't think its too much to ask to compete in a terrible ACC. We're not begging for national championships. We're begging our team to learn to tackle. Also, I told someone last night....that game would have been easier to take if we had just been blown out from the beginning. One thing I'm tired of seeing is this team in position to win, or in great position to make game/season changing plays, and constantly come up short because of fundamental mistakes (tackling). 3rd and 19???[Edited on October 17, 2008 at 7:30 PM. i'm not sure if i'd actually rather be blown out, but i'm w/ you. we keep looking like we're playing well enough to win and then blowing it.
10/17/2008 7:34:28 PM
^yeah thats what I mean. Its easier to take a loss when the other team beats you because they throw 50 yard bombs down the field, bust open huge holes in the offensive line, and dominate you on defense. It hurts, but in a different way. At least you don't waste your energy getting pumped about a possible win. But to put yourself in position 2 weeks in a row only to have fundamentals on D come back to bite you in the dick, its painful to watch.
10/17/2008 10:42:28 PM
^, ^^^I couldn't disagree more. I would rather watch a close game any day than to see a blow out like the USF game. I hate knowing the game is over at half time. I want to have a chance to win at the end of the game even if we don't win. It's much more exciting to watch. It keeps the fans in their seats too..[Edited on October 18, 2008 at 8:51 AM. Reason : .]

COWHER FOR DC
10/25/2008 6:43:13 PM
how many 15+ yard plays did they have on that last drive? 3, 4? that was fucking ridiculous
10/25/2008 6:56:14 PM
how many 10 yard runs are we gonna give up? how many passes over the middle where there's no zone...and how many damn are tackles are we gonna do? byers is terrible at tackling, as are most everyone...the 3rd and 4th tacklers had to make the tackles
10/25/2008 9:09:08 PM
Just by listening to it on radio, I think he is to blame for today's loss somewhat. My opinion of him is getting worse each week.
10/25/2008 9:11:22 PM
last 3 weeks we were in the game, could have won had we had a defense that wasnt so conservative

10/26/2008 11:39:11 AM
haha. is it bad when you wish that our offense had been on the field instead of our defense.

10 yd cushion by our DBs = automatic 7 yd gain every goddamn play

11/8/2008 4:24:32 PM
There is no doubt our tackling and inexperience is an issue, but he certainly isn't putting our players in the best position to succeed most of the time.

prevent defense won't fly against unc like it did with duke tonight. if i were the O of any other team i'd be excited.
11/8/2008 9:15:19 PM
We came up HUGE on some 4th down plays against a pretty good Duke offense....
11/8/2008 9:23:41 PM
I don't think much strategery is involved in a goal line defense. Also, one of the stands gets an asterisk because the wide open duke player tripped on himself.I didn't see any appreciable improvement out there. Duke just wasnt as good as our previous opponents.Pass to the side where the corner is giving the 15 yard cushion rather than the 10 yard oneSlantSeam route over the middleScreensOur opponents have many options to choose from.^^ Yeah, UNC is going to score 60+[Edited on November 9, 2008 at 12:14 AM. ^Yeah maybe but at the same time the pressure from the line caused the poor throw.I still think you can't judge Archer yet with these players....
11/9/2008 1:34:21 AM
For the record, we have all our players back, including irving, and we are still playing like dog shit.FYI archer: Good QBs love when you don't put pressure on them.
11/15/2008 5:05:14 PM
If you aren't pleased with him after today, I am not sure you ever will be.
11/15/2008 8:55:08 PM
Defense at the end of the 1st half was rough.Holding Wake to 3 points in the 2nd half when they had the ball within the 25 twice was pretty awesome. Without RW's fumble, Wake doesn't score in the 2nd half.
11/15/2008 9:04:11 PM
In the long run we're gonna need more pressure created by our defensive line to have this defense work. However, I felt like our defense looked pretty good overall in the 2nd half. Nate Irving is amazing.
11/15/2008 9:06:01 PM
He definitely sent some blitzers on that final drive. The QB might have had too much time...but it wasn't for lack of effort.
11/15/2008 9:08:32 PM
Just have archer play his prevent.but let nate irving do whatever he wants on the field. that's all we need.
11/15/2008 9:35:54 PM
Except for Nate missing that HUGE sack on the final drive.
11/15/2008 9:46:16 PM
We had to win after Nate missed a sack, it's like opposite day or something.
11/15/2008 9:52:19 PM
I guess I'll never be pleased with him. Nate Irving is currently doing for Archer what Rivers did for Amato. It just seems like our defensive strategy is:Be content with allowing 5-8 yard gains per down and hope we either get lucky or hope that their offense screws up on the first two downs to maybe, maybe get even luckier on a third down. Just let them march 50+ yards on us per possession and hope for the best.Sorry, nice win. I'm just not quite ready to let a few key holds over the past two games make up for the all the crap.[Edited on November 15, 2008 at 10:24 PM. Reason : -]
11/15/2008 10:23:27 PM
hate.he is trying to run a florida/texas/ohio state defense with 3* players
11/15/2008 10:27:20 PM
yeah but he's also playing against 3star players.think about it.
11/15/2008 10:38:51 PM
Archer is HORRIBLE.
11/16/2008 1:37:22 AM
the reason for this "soft coverage" is because its toward the end of the game, with time ticking away.....you give up the short slants over the middle, and backs running out of flats, because youre taking a chance they will not get the 1st down or run out of bounds, and the clock continues to run or you call timeout....less timeouts, less crossing patterns over middle, resulting it deep outs or comebacks (limits their play selection)we dont need to be beat deep, and we saw what happened when we blitzed and left 1 on 1, even with safety help, wr for wake just about caught it for td.....plus, knowing they have to score td was crucial because it was alright for wake to drive it down on us to the 25 yd line or so, so when theres less space, its easier to cover the field, and contain more players, even qbif wake only needed a fg to tie, im pretty sure we would have played more bump and run with a less lb blitzes and more de stunts, allowing for the lb's to play zones 8-12 yds deep
11/16/2008 8:09:47 AM
No, he plays taht cushion all game long every fucking game.
11/16/2008 10:28:37 AM
I don't know how we will fare against UNC on Defense. Not sure how well that will take advantage of our secondary, or whether we will come at them the same way we have the past several games.I do believe that we will do fairly well against them on Offense though. We just need to score more points than them.Man I should work for ESPN.
11/16/2008 10:43:27 AM
I think if RW keeps playing like he's playing, and we get a pass rush like we have the last few games, we will beat UNC.
