i would just like to say...I told you soi just wish that NC State had taken him. would much rather be cheering on the pack than the jackets. but hey, could be worse...UNC could have been the smart ones

whatever, we didnt take him and that's just the way it is. We've got obrien who is still a proven coach that just hasn't gotten it together here yet. All we can do is move forward with what we have. Good for PJ and GT.

I'm not complaining. I can't stand watching option offense where teams run 85% of the time. I would rather watch our style of offense where the QB throws the ball over the middle for large gains. Alabama uses an offense like ours and look where they are. The difference is that Alabama has a really good line to block for the RBs.[Edited on December 6, 2009 at 12:25 PM. Reason : .]

^^^wilson would be dead by now if he was running the triple optionJohnson had a goldmine waiting for him at tech.

Exactly, Nesbitt and Dwyer are monsters.

Paul Johnson winning an ACC title at Georgia Tech means very little for how he'd have done at NC State. Georgia Tech hasn't had a losing season since 1996. The programs aren't really comparable. Paul Johnson is a very good coach, but he's getting results that many other coaches have had a GT. NC State has had two ACC titles in the last 40 years, and the two coaches that won a title ditched us for better jobs. PJ would have been a fine hire, but I highly doubt he'd have an ACC title in year two or even in year three, four, five, etc., because NC State historically sucks ass. And I know goalielax is gonna try to say PJ resurrected a totally dead program at Navy, but even Charlie Weatherbie had a 9-win season there.

I'm not saying Johnson hasn't coached him up. I'm saying Johnson landed in a school that already had a strong foundation for his offense. We had nothing of the sort. Weak offensive line, no QB to run the option, and no real suitable RB's for the option.

Hindsight is not always 20/20 1) Success at one school does NOT guarantee success at another2) GT is in college football's recruiting promised land...(athletes coming out of high schools in GA, FL, all over South East) 3) GT has a stronger football history than NCSU4) GT may have a huge rival in UGA....BUT losing to UGA doesn't mean a thing in conference play...and they don't have other in-state Div.1 schools to compete with for recruits. 5) Would PJ's current staff come with him to NC State? If not, then the coaching landscape would be a whole different story...this could be a difference of a few games maybe? who knows? Bottom line: There are too many variables and too many "what ifs" to try and decide something that is already decided. I support TOB and I believe he was the best fit for our program at the time he came in....AND he is the best fit for our program right now. I guarandamntee you that the same muffintop commandos that made this thread would be the ones wondering about TOB if we had Paul Johnson now.

I haven't seen GT play this year but now I agreethat offense is excruciating to watch
12/6/2009 5:24:17 PM
i love the optionactually forces you to think out there on both sides of the ball

I think Bill Cowher would be a better fit for the program.
12/6/2009 5:35:33 PM
could you imagine the option being run with wilson right now?? wilson has the ability to throw downfield too.
12/6/2009 7:43:24 PM
^yeah you throw that in eugene and baker....

except Paul Johnson wouldn't have recruited Glennon because he wouldn't fit the offense.
12/7/2009 10:19:23 AM
wilson would fit perfectly in paul johnsons offense.possibly the most ideal fit in the nation. we could have been like the florida gators! [Edited on December 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM. Reason : \]

Yeah, pretty sure Russell would die in a triple option offense.I guess I'll clarify and say the two games he'd make it healthy he would be a beast at it though.[Edited on December 7, 2009 at 10:37 AM. Reason : injuries sad times]

No one seems to talk about the great defense he inherited at GT either. Didn't they have several early round NFL pics on d-line last year and expected to this year as well.I think PJ fell into the perfect situation with players that could run his offense and a stout defense.
12/7/2009 11:09:47 AM
Well, I don't want to take away from what PJ is doing, I think he's doing a great job at GT. I just don't think it would've worked as well with our personnel.
