Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.

i doubt those 2 hands get too much done in the few minutes out of my day I take to pray for other people

Yeah, especially its a doctor saving someone's life.

lolz. I was mostly kidding because of your silly saying but come on, you are pulling extreme examples that don't really pertain to most people on here (I would hope). I mean I hope no one on here is going to let someone lay there dying who needs medical attention. If you will notice, no one in this thread is performing surgery on anyone we are praying for in here. So whether we do or do not pray for them doesn't affect you and even if you believe it won't affect them positively, it certainly won't affect them negatively. [Edited on October 7, 2008 at 11:20 AM. It could.

if you're going to go that route, people "helping" sometimes do more harm than good (esp in the case of physical injuries) whereas from your perspective people praying would do nothing and the person would have been better off if people just prayed Hey look, I can pull the same shenanigans you are pulling.[Edited on October 7, 2008 at 11:25 AM. What shenanigans?

see your previous 3 posts of nonsense on this page. And also note that Im not in here even arguing that prayer does anything at all, simply that it is pretty pointless for someone to chide people for something that isnt going to hurt anything even if it doesnt work (except in the most extreme cases like people who refuse to get medical help and just pray)
10/7/2008 11:28:46 AM
You can't ignore those cases.

If your only argument is going to rest on those extreme cases then you don't have much of an argument. If you can provide any other reason that prayer causes more harm than good I will be willing to listen.

It results in people being less self reliant.

now thats something I wont be able to confirm or deny. For me personally, I have never prayed for something and sat there and waited for it to happen. If I prayed for an interview, I had already done my research, updated the resume, bought the new suit etc. and prayer was the last thing I did once I knew I had done all I could myself. However, I cannot speak for everyone of course and there certainly are people who pray and think thats all they have to do. Luckily this doesnt describe hardly anyone I know personally because the few people who are like that do annoy even me.[Edited on October 7, 2008 at 11:47 AM. Reason : ]

If god has a master plan then why bother praying for stuff to happen?
10/7/2008 11:54:07 AM
I dont believe in predestination, I believe our actions certainly affect our course in life and arent already mapped out for us. This is why, despite the fact that I do pray, I do everything within my own power to make it happen.
