I was at the place where this is gonna be earlier today and LOL. It's going to be total chaos. The Obama people there also told me that have given out 3,000 tickets.
4/26/2008 10:46:44 PM
This is where it is
4/26/2008 11:42:02 PM
i got mine. i hope they play more than 4 songs.
4/27/2008 1:05:09 AM
go superchunk
4/27/2008 5:57:02 PM
anyone know if there are still tickets at the morning times?
4/27/2008 7:25:48 PM
^ no there's not, i tried going there yesterday while i was in town. oh well, i still might just show up.
4/27/2008 7:37:28 PM
eh, how bout the chapel hill locations? I really dont feel like going down there to get tickes (especially with finals) but id really like to see arcade fire
4/27/2008 8:13:21 PM
bump
5/1/2008 12:16:28 PM
I'm on the fence about heading out there or not. It almost seems like more trouble than it's worth. If the doors open at 1, what time do you think they'll go on? There's no way in hell I'm going to chapel hill at 10 in the morning. I was thinking about maybe rolling out there around 1:30. What's everyone else doing?
5/1/2008 3:44:29 PM
^ I may be wrong on this, but I believe I read somewhere that Arcade Fire won't go on until after 3 pm.Gates open at 1, show starts after 2 pm w/ Superchunk up first and then Arcade Fire. I'm sure there will be a bunch of political bullshit in between.By the time I leave the office at 7:30 tonight, I will have billed 40 fucking hours in 4 days. I plan on coming in early tomorrow, doing a bit of work and then heading out to Chapel Hill around 11:00. I'm more concerned about the parking than the line at this point.
5/1/2008 5:04:19 PM
we're going around noon nowpretty effing excited
5/1/2008 5:32:37 PM
I think we are going to try to park near the Armadillo Grill at 11:30 and bring some food over. Hopefully, that will be early enough. I'm taking a vacation day, so it would suck to get turned away. I have no idea what to expect.
5/1/2008 5:39:28 PM
did anyone go to gboro today? i couldn't go so i'm taking my chances w/ carrboro tomorrow
5/1/2008 5:54:45 PM
Greensboro fucking rocked. I'm so glad we went today, so now we won't be upset if we are a mile from the stage tomorrow. We got there at 1 when the gates opened and they were still giving away tickets; we were close to the stage in the center. Superchunk was great, and Arcade Fire was of course amazing. I have a hell of a time trying to remember setlists, but I'm fairly sure this was it:Keep the Car RunningHeroes (David Bowie cover)InterventionNo Cars GoHaitiNeighborhood #1 (Tunnels)Antichrist Television BluesNeighborhood #3 (Power Out)Rebellion (Lies)--------------------Wake UpGot some pretty great photos I think. Will put them up on Flickr shortly.
5/1/2008 6:15:33 PM
Katherine, I'll be the weird guy you don't recognize who comes up to introduce himself.
5/1/2008 6:19:16 PM
^^ that makes me even more excitedOH EM JESUS
5/1/2008 6:27:48 PM
that's a nice fucking setlist.... holy hell!
5/1/2008 6:33:08 PM
that setlist might actually convince me to go
5/1/2008 6:41:36 PM
MAN carrboro is going to suck. i knew i should have gone to the gboro one. but i didn't a) want to go alone and b) i needed to do some stupid stupid ass studying for finals so that i could at least go to the show tomorrow with my crewwww. oh wells. cheers to tomorrow. i guess i should get there at like 6:30am then hah.
5/1/2008 6:45:44 PM
I took a couple crappy video clips. Hopefully I can post them a little later tonight.Photos: http://flickr.com/photos/jhawkins/sets/72157604831236774/
5/1/2008 8:58:21 PM
Also took two short fairly shitty video clips on my cameraAntichrist Television Blues: http://flickr.com/photos/jhawkins/2458559176/Power Out: http://flickr.com/photos/jhawkins/2458522476/
5/1/2008 10:58:53 PM
anyone know what superchunk played?
5/2/2008 12:12:59 AM
we're watching the videos from gboro on youtube right now. this is going to be so fucking cool. prob bc i acutally like obama but...i think its awesome that they're playing for him. like amazingly awesome.
5/2/2008 1:33:31 AM
I'm leaving RTP for that way right now... probably get something to eat, see what the line is like.[Edited on May 2, 2008 at 10:52 AM. Reason : .]
5/2/2008 10:52:18 AM
shit was amazing
5/2/2008 5:04:09 PM
ah, forgot to post stuff from yesterday... http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A257202you can see me getting the video of wake up in one of vulcan's pics
5/2/2008 5:30:48 PM
just got back from carrboro. i'm SO BURNED ouch. but other than that...awesomeness. i have two videos not the BEST quality ever but still pretty good. i can post them later. no cars go and haiti. don't know if i saw any of you bitches out there but i'm sure you were in the crowd somewhere.oh yea my dumbass camera died halfway through (didn't charge it, i'm a retard) or else i would have taken videos of rebellion and wake up. wake up was awesome. but like a large % of the crowd kinda looked like they had no clue what was going on....it definitely wasn't as insane as i thought it would be (the crowd i mean)[Edited on May 2, 2008 at 5:38 PM. Reason : .]
5/2/2008 5:37:30 PM
that was pretty sweet. (i'm judging it both in terms of quality of the concert, but also voter turn out. i've been campaigning at polling stations in durham, chapel hill, and carrboro, and this was one of the biggest turnouts yet for early voting, and by far the largest carrboro has had)
5/2/2008 5:44:31 PM
stuck at work all day so would everyone say there was a significant portion of the crowd that was more interested in obama than the bands?
5/2/2008 5:49:58 PM
best show i've seen in a while.radiohead next week.
5/2/2008 6:00:40 PM
I can't believe I had to miss this there is no way I'm coming into work next friday, woo radiohead]
5/2/2008 6:07:42 PM
Fun was had by all.
5/2/2008 6:12:51 PM
win butler went right between me and screentest. it was shocking how tall he is.superchunk was spot on. both bands did an acceptable amount of rallying and had exciting sets. arcade fire's setlist was a compilation of my favorites.
5/2/2008 6:25:11 PM
We were much farther back for this one than Greensboro, so my pictures aren't as nice, but there they are nonetheless http://flickr.com/photos/jhawkins/sets/72157604853358295/
5/2/2008 7:58:44 PM
WOWpros:Arcade motherfucking FireAWESOME settingnice weathernear perfect setlistcons:being burnt to a crispthe way they handled the lines (we got there around noon and got a decent spot in front of the main entrance thinking we'd get in quickly. they opened a second entrance at the back of the line that went WAY faster than the original line)i'm fucking exhaustedpictures to come soon
5/2/2008 8:25:28 PM
was the setlist the same as greensboro?
5/2/2008 9:53:13 PM
It was the same 10 songs, just a slightly different order
5/2/2008 9:57:08 PM
i forgot to add the crowd as a con to my listit took them forever to really get into it
5/2/2008 10:39:53 PM
^ hello see my post about it. i said the crowd was not as insane as i imagined. like a lot of them looked like they had no idea what is going on. anyway i put my very AWESOME quality videos (that is sarcasm) on youtube. maybe i can link them to youhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWBbKnPMSJs that is a video of haiti (part of it)andhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu63RMDmmGo no cars goi wanted to take more but my camera died. and they aren't the best because i am short and i was trying to rock whilst videoing. but they sound good, i think. and captured the moment well???
5/2/2008 11:24:31 PM
i couldn't believe how bored a lot of the crowd looked... it's the fucking arcade fire, not some shitty local band.
5/3/2008 10:22:10 AM
I mean, they're all right. They're no A Rooster for the Masses.
5/3/2008 12:15:30 PM
^^^, ^^could have been that many were there because it "was the cool thing to do"
5/3/2008 12:36:51 PM
That, and the fact that it had Obama attached to it. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of people there who thought Obama would be there. Plus, it was in walking distance; I saw a lot of moms and kids there. In contrast, the Greensboro show didn't have near as many people, but it seemed to be pretty much all young people who were there because they loved the bands.
5/3/2008 12:39:16 PM
This concert is the reason why obama is sliding
5/3/2008 1:01:15 PM
wait...what?
5/3/2008 1:43:53 PM
5/3/2008 1:44:26 PM
1. How many TWW people can you spot in the picture?2. How many Galaxy people?3. Where's Waldo?
5/3/2008 7:57:37 PM
i do think the teacher workday had something to do with itthere were a ton of high schoolers theresome of them tried to lie to get a good spot in line by saying they were volunteersthey quickly got busted and were asked to leave
5/3/2008 7:58:20 PM
I don't see anyone awkward enough to be a T-dubber
5/3/2008 8:41:58 PM
i'm in that picturethis one too:
