^^ From the looks of that other thread you got the jobcongratsWant to brag about what company it is?
8/4/2008 8:16:03 AM
Thanks. It's a company called Purolator. They do filtration for the aerospace industry. I'm really excited about it. It seems like its going to be a great place to work.
8/4/2008 8:20:31 AM
Did you find it through a recruiter? careerbuilder type website?
8/4/2008 8:27:54 AM
I found it on careerbuilder.com. It was a posting by a recruiter. I contacted him and he got the process going with the company.
8/4/2008 8:32:15 AM
Cool, well congratsI'm still struggling myself as no one will give me a call backI think I've applied to 12 jobs in the past month so far
8/4/2008 8:39:46 AM
The good thing about going through a recruiter is that they have an incentive to stay in contact with the business. I've never used one before but the process went smoothly as far as I could tell and fairly quick.
8/4/2008 8:56:00 AM
Well, I sent my info to a recruiter the week before the 4th of July, and he said there were 4 companies he was going to contact, and I haven't heard a peep about themI've contacted him a few times, but he rarely gets back with meMy experience with recruiters has not been favorable
8/4/2008 8:59:42 AM
That sucks. When I updated my Monster account for the first time since my senior year of college, alot of them started calling. I talked to most of em and I would find out I didn't like the job or I wasn't a suitable candidate. Then I had this one guy almost stalk me. The last straw was he called me at work and told him to never call me again. So I've had a few bad experiences myself. I guess I just got lucky with this one.

8/4/2008 9:10:23 AM
Any more bites for anyone?I think i'm up to about 15-17 applications now, still with not one call back
8/6/2008 11:22:09 AM
I now have an interview for Friday morning keep at it, someone will call you back
8/12/2008 2:20:13 PM
Drovkin, all I'm getting are bites from recruiters. I don't seem to be getting anywhere with them, and I'm sitting here jobless. I'm thinking about getting a part time job at an auto shop or something to pass the time and make a little money until the career fair in September.
8/12/2008 5:58:12 PM
I actually was laid off last Friday from company downsizing, and being the newest hire and last in, I was the first to goSo I've basically got two weeks to find something^^ Where at if you don't mind me asking?[Edited on August 13, 2008 at 9:13 AM. Reason : .]
8/13/2008 9:13:30 AM
Interestingly enough, I'm sitting here at my new job (which I like a lot, by the way), and I have at least two or three emails a day from recruiters for jobs around the country (and every now and then there will be a couple in the Triangle Area) and I'm still getting calls (a lot of them from local recruiters and even more from others). But I like this company just fine. And the money is right. So here I stay, as long as they like what they get from me (so far, so good, knock on wood).
8/19/2008 4:08:33 PM
that's greatI'm getting more people calling me back lately too- I have another interview tomorrow at 1:30
8/19/2008 4:26:12 PM
Drovkin, any luck yet? I've had some interviews, but I haven't gotten any offers yet.
8/19/2008 4:43:59 PM
I've got a few interviews coming up, but no offers yet
8/19/2008 8:05:59 PM
about to start with Valero down in Port Arthur, TX (near Houston) (was working for XOM before that)things are pretty good in the area for ChEs
9/3/2008 8:53:41 PM
Try http://www.fordsearch.com b/c there's one engineering position there. I used this recruiter and he really helped me all the way through. He practically set up the interview and always checked up with the company on how my application is going and always kept me updated. I'm starting Monday with Narricot Industries in Boykins, VA. Good luck with job hunting and interviews.
9/11/2008 11:21:41 PM
I'm getting really tired of the "we're wanting someone with more experience" BS.Basically if I haven't been working for over 8 years, no one wants to sit down with me.This is pretty depressing honestly, I wish I would have never moved to greensboro.
9/12/2008 7:46:19 AM
Do any of you know of places that are looking for Application Engineers -> Sales Engineering position? There are a few places I've interviewed, but no openings in Greensboro. They would need me to move, which I cannot do.
9/22/2008 2:27:06 PM
Actually the place I just started at used to be pretty intense with the recruiting in that department, if you want I can PM info. You'll almost certainly get an interview.[Edited on September 22, 2008 at 8:43 PM. Reason : .]
9/22/2008 8:41:18 PM
Any of you making the drive to Raleigh for the engineering career fair?
9/29/2008 5:43:10 PM
I am. I'm still waiting to hear back on a decision but there's no real harm in passing out resumes to some other companies.
9/29/2008 6:01:43 PM
I've been applying to jobs for about a month or so now. Most companies I never hear back from. One company, Firestone, recently sent me something back. Along the lines of "due our current economic situation we have decided not to fill this position". Looks like a lot of companies are having hiring freezes/layoffs from what i hear.
9/29/2008 6:57:15 PM
I'm wondering how many companies there would actually have a gso office though, because that's my only option
9/29/2008 7:13:53 PM
you can always look at the list of companies, and see which ones do:https://eng-ncsu-cfm.symplicity.com/events/students.php?cf=fall2008I'm going through the ChemE ones for companies with a Raleigh location right now
9/29/2008 8:59:45 PM
Hey, does anybody know somebody who is a PE focusing on civil engineering with experience in site design and utilities layout type stuff? The boss is trying to find somebody for a position at work and I figured I'd throw it out there on TDUB to see.
9/30/2008 2:24:17 AM
IBM currently has one software engineer position open and another opening in January for any recent computer science graduates. PM me if you are interested.
10/2/2008 2:58:14 PM
I'm going to throw my name in the hat hear too.I'm a mechanical engineer with almost 6 years experience in mechanical design, systems design, project management, and mechanical maintenance. Looking for something in the triangle area. Experienced in Solid works, and a host of other CAD systems. Prefer a smallish company.Anybody???

10/3/2008 8:21:04 AM
^ Why would you need a recent college grad? salary budget?
10/3/2008 10:59:23 AM
MOLDABILITY. A lot easier to indoctrinate a fresh grad as opposed to somebody who's been work-hardened, if you will. har har har.Add to that, the fresh grads come with better computer experience and are cheaper in terms of salary and benefits.
10/3/2008 11:25:51 AM
Finally got a job after 2 months sitting at homethank godI figured no one would be hiring until at least Jan
11/10/2008 10:30:41 AM

11/10/2008 10:46:11 AM
That's awesome, Drovkin. The one company I was most interested in strung me along for two months before rejecting me, though I'm still waiting to hear back from the other interview I had recently.I'm still sending things out, at least you guys give me hope that there's something out there for me.
11/10/2008 11:04:52 PM
I'm going to bump this because I'm looking for a structural engineering or civil engineering job right now and thought I'd bug the wolfweb for leads. I have one or two leads, but obviously in this sort of economy you need more than one or two leads to get yourself a job.As far as experience, I have four internships, passed the FE (or you can call me an EIT now, whatever suits you), and concentrated in structures while at NCSU getting my BS in Civil Engineering. It's looking more and more like I might have to relocate, so I might be willing to do that. I'd love to work with commercial or residential structures, though I know that's pretty much not happening right now.Anybody have any leads? Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I'm looking at monster.com and craigslist and haven't really found anything so far.
12/3/2008 9:31:31 PM
There is an entry level Civil/Construction Engineering position (not structural based...but you could always move into that side of the civil/arch/structural department once you got your foot in the door) listed for Greenville, SC for Fluor. http://www.fluor.com/careers and then the college section. Don't think we have much else atm though that relates to you...

12/4/2008 7:03:20 PM
based on the current job market how hard would it be to find a Mechanical Engineering job in the area?
12/5/2008 1:32:04 AM
i'd say it's pretty tough.i just got a job recently, but i had a recommendation, contacts and 2.5 years of experience. the market is obviously down, but some companies are looking to hire now before the end of the year. conversely, most companies will want to hold out until the beginning of the year for budget reasons.overall though, if you are qualified i think there are jobs to be had. maybe not as many as a year ago, but jobs nonetheless. also, working with recruiters helps. just don't let them push you around as far as pay rates and benefits go... all that stuff is negotiable.
12/5/2008 1:52:43 AM
probably depends on what kind of mechanical engineering position you're looking for.
12/5/2008 10:58:27 PM
Yeah, from what I've seen if you've got 2-5 years experience right now you have a decent shot at finding a job somewhere, and if you have 6-10 or more there's very likely somebody out there who wants to hire you. Entry level? Yeah... I'm kind of sitting high and dry here right now. 4 internships aren't quite cutting it it doesn't seem. Though I expected Civil/Structural engineering jobs to be scarce right now because of the whole credit crunch, oh fuck we're all going to die, recession thing anyway.I decided to be more open to relocating and have started bugging companies with listings in places I could stomach moving to right now.
12/5/2008 11:57:13 PM
if my company hires one more new person im going to say something
12/6/2008 9:10:34 PM
^^ you heading up our way? I don't think we're hiring, but you should definitely contact nucor and I can give you some names and contacts of people we work with.
12/7/2008 5:39:48 PM
