New Orleans needs to stop being so damn selfish. At least Hanna seems promising.

Yeah. I, too, long for days without power, flooding, and trees threatening to fall through my roof.Living in a house kinda changes your perception of these things. We need the rain. But the wind go screw itself.

man to hell with NO. fixing that place up after every hurricane looks like a waste of effort and money.
8/31/2008 5:43:18 PM
and here go gas pricesjust watched them jump 10 cent in an hour, rumored to be over 4 dollars by tomorrow morningim anxious to see if the levees hold back the Mississippi^I got a feeling they wont in a few places and I think the 9th ward is getting hammered again.luckily it seems most everyone is out of town this time.the real disaster is gonna be the outer banks of LA[Edited on August 31, 2008 at 5:45 PM. nawh, it will not go up over $4 for Gus, President will release fuel from where they have that storage....also, it is petering out (only 115), which is barily at Cat 3, more like Cat 2....will not cause major damage to the offshore platforms...if it had stayed 140 then it would of, but they can survive a barily Cat 3. This is why they price per barrel did not go up last week much, because the Prez said he would release the oil if there was an disruption. It looks like Gus is going to be far enough away that the 9th ward levees should hold, however, the ones that Kat did not mess with (ones beside the Mississippi) might have issues.[Edited on August 31, 2008 at 6:21 PM. fox news said it was going to strengthen into a cat 6 before it made landfall

The last final frames show the colder cloudtops are finally wrapping around the north and east part of the hurricane. Could strengthen tonight afterall.

Gus is a weak cat 3, it goes down 5mph, and it is a strong Cat 2....big difference from what it was 150 to what it is now, 115. CNBC on Friday was like...wtf...why is the cost per barrell going down, dont they know a hurricane is coming? I am glad Monday is a holiday, this thing will hit land Mon am and hopefully by Tuesday they will determine not much damage to the offshore platforms, then it just takes time to get people back out there to start up production.I was in VA last week and paid $3.26.[Edited on August 31, 2008 at 11:26 PM. I just hope that hanna stays away. My tobacco crop is hanging on a curing structure now that will not fair too well in a strong storm.

coolest thing i have seen yetin google earth you can see the updated Recon data the hurricane hunters are doinggives you some insighthttp://tropicalatlantic.com/recon/ge/Recon_Data_for_the_Atlantic_Basin.kmzactually the more i look the more i loev that thing, it gets updated and you can follow the air planeit even shows the drops they make, showed an avg of wind at one point to be 116 mph with gust of 145 mph about halfway thru the read. the pressure and everything...if you are addicted to these things like me, its crazy how this program works[Edited on September 1, 2008 at 3:26 AM. TD#9 has formed. May be a tropical storm soon.It really wouldn't surprise me if the Hanna track pushes further east over the next day or 2...and could possibly recurve and not make landfall on the east coast.btw, this website is awesome for viewing data on the stormshttp://www.crownweather.comgo there, click the name of the storm, and it loads up pretty much a HUGE page for of discussions, models, satellite, radar, tracks, etc...
9/1/2008 11:08:34 AM
what's your reasoning behind the trend to the east?
9/1/2008 11:14:31 AM
get to work on TS Hanna....the current models show it making landfall right in the area im living currently. i cant find much of anything about hanna, except it's slow-moving, because everyone is still busy jerking off over gustav.
9/1/2008 11:18:30 AM
Originally I would have said the high building in but it looks like it will erode through the week. There is a cold front that could swing through later in the week and help push it out away from the coast...Plus, I'm also kind of basing it on past storms that have come up close to the coast like that and banked away. We will see.
9/1/2008 11:22:14 AM
Ehhh, just glancing casually...That front doesn't appear too terribly interesting this week. Kind of a weak back door type deal like today. The high is a bit farther north as well. The models keep trending westward, actually. The GFS and WRF are more in line with a southern SC coast hit instead of a Wilmington entry. We'll see for sure.As far as history, it's a wash. Though it's rare that we see storms do the wobble back SW towards the Bahamas like Hanna's done. An interesting week is in store.
9/1/2008 11:31:18 AM
Come on Hanna! The leftovers from Fay were nice but didn't really give me the tropical storm feel that I have been longing for.
9/1/2008 11:42:33 AM
Hell yeah, looks like we're gonna be playing William & Mary in possibly TS conditions!btw

so far from the newest data on Hannah that the plane is releasing, 78 mph winds is about all im seeing with 985 mb pressure being the lowest near the center.altho this thing is pretty big, hurricane force winds are extending WAYYYYY off the northeast, south and southeast sides...if this thing can make any organizational moves it could become a fairly large storm, but I doubt it gets very powerful, all depends on that front that moves in.I love this google earth crap tho where you can follow the plane[Edited on September 1, 2008 at 2:27 PM. so...im supposed to be flying into dallas tonight wanna make any bets as to delays/reroute?
9/1/2008 2:26:52 PM
you might be ok. i'm in houston, just 4 hours south and the weather here is pretty nice right now
9/1/2008 2:57:43 PM
Wasn't Hanna supposed to be fighting for her life today and tomorrow? The shear was advertised as strong enough to strip the convection away from the center. This just shows that while directional forecasting has improved, the intensity forecasts leave a lot to be desired.
9/1/2008 3:07:53 PM
hmmm, well my flight doesnt get to dallas until 5 tomorrow morning...shouldnt be an issue now that i think about it
9/1/2008 3:16:23 PM

Hello JOSEPHINE
9/2/2008 5:17:24 PM
I live in Wilmington and can't help but comment on the stupidity of people. Even just looking at facebook status updates you would think we were about to get rocked out by a category 5 storm of the century within 48 hours. One person put for theirs "got hurricane supplies today.... hope its enough!"Not only is hanna 3-4 days out, only predicted to be a measly category 1 on landfall, but all predicted models have it as unfavorably likely we will take on the eye wall. In all likelihood you peeps in Raleigh will take on heavier wind and rain than I will.

I just want to know if I should camp in the mountains or at the beach this weekend
9/2/2008 10:14:12 PM
I'm wondering if I should drive back to Morehead this weekend just to watch them give the "Hurricane" reports. I remember how entertaining they were during Isabel.
