that statue is kinda coolIf we ever got good it could be like a lesser version of Clemson's rockbut I bet someone trips on it and sprains their ankle before that happens

In all seriousness, how the hell is San Diego State always so freaking bad? I've been there dozens of times, and if I was an 17 year-old recruit I'd have a hard-on for days. Very hot girls (and dumb too, as it is an easy school to get into), it's 5 miles from the best beaches in SD, 1000's of things to do, always sunny and between 65-85 degrees 365 days a year. There are hundreds of 3,4, and 5 star players coming out of So. CA every year. WTF is the recruiting team doing? I understand the best of the best go to SC,UCLA, any where else in CA, even UT recently(Clausen's/Nunes), etc. So. CA has the best Community College football programs of any region nationwide, wtf are they doing?
8/6/2008 12:10:41 PM
put em in the Pac-10, that would help a lot
8/6/2008 12:12:18 PM
8/6/2008 12:17:21 PM
Yeah, but it would make the regions uneven, there's two teams close to each other in every region.IIRC Tramain Hall was a So. CA Juco transfer, how did NC State find him and SDSU was just like durrrr
8/6/2008 12:19:13 PM
^^ I would imagine, as a preseason ranking, it takes all of those things into consideration. But I don't know for sure, and as you can see by the link, it certainly doesn't specify. When I saw the link, I was hoping for a sentence or two about each team (I've seen SI do that before), but no such luck this time.
8/6/2008 1:10:17 PM
how the hell is duke #79?
8/6/2008 1:54:18 PM
aaaaaand those rankings have lost any semblance of credibility
8/6/2008 1:57:42 PM
it's always a tossup who the fuck knows outside of top 15 teams or so every year.
8/6/2008 1:59:43 PM
I heard that spurrier didn't vote for duke this year b/c an NCAA official asked him not to b/c it "risks compromising the integrity of the poll"....The problem is, that would imply that the pre-season poll has integrity to begin with.
8/6/2008 2:11:29 PM
hahahaGT below Duke? Ouch... I think Tech will be pretty damn good this year if they can keep from turning the ball over when pitching on the option. I actually went and watched a few of their practices over the last week and they fucked up the pitch over and over
8/6/2008 2:18:42 PM
8/6/2008 2:19:13 PM
^ I did read an article where all the players are so much more excited than they were in the past, worked out really hard this summer, lost a lot of weight etc., but I agree it will take a few years before they are even close to be a .500 team
8/6/2008 2:22:54 PM
I think that goes for most teams who get a new coachI do think they will be better in a year or two, but not this year
8/6/2008 2:24:27 PM

8/6/2008 2:27:35 PM
^^better, yes.....but then again, for Duke, 3-9 is "better".if he just gets them to a bowl game in the next 4-5 years, he will be working miraclesthe short term goal should be to just not finish last in the conference.^with our schedule this year, we must beat duke if we want to get into a bowl.[Edited on August 6, 2008 at 2:31 PM. I can't remember all of the details but I know it was a clusterfuck... Actually this was probably a bad example now that I think of it, as I can't remember if he went to JUCO only for a semester so he could become eligible or what- bottom line is SDSU still sucks.[Edited on August 6, 2008 at 3:38 PM. 8/6/2008 3:30:59 PM
I know it has been a while since we played Duke, but they always give us a hard time. I think the last time we beat them by less than a touchdown...There was one game (may have been that one) that came down to Duke kicking a long field goal (as time ran out) to try and win the game. This was a home game. plus...it doesn't surprise me that UNC is ranked higher than us preseason. Preseason rankings really don't mean much anyway, but UNC returns more talent than us. Their QB is above decent, stand-out WR, etc....

8/6/2008 3:44:16 PM
dear God I hope so
8/6/2008 3:49:53 PM
haha, was anyone here at Duke in 2003 when there were about 500 Duke fans in attendance until the start of the 4th quarter, and then the whole student body showed up?
8/6/2008 3:54:41 PM
Amato never lost to Duke. We haven't lost to Duke since 1993, which was a 1 point loss. The overall series record between State and Duke is 35 State wins, 39 Duke wins, and 5 ties. Most of Duke's wins though came early on when they were actually a good program and we didn't even have scholarship players. Since the inception of the ACC in 1953 Duke has won 19 games in the series, State has won 28 games, and there has been 4 ties. Again remember that we didn't have scholarship players until the late 50s/early 60s. Duke got 9 of their 19 wins in the years of 1953-1956 and 1958-1962 (there was a tie during 1957). Since 1988 we've only lost to them twice and tied once. I was at the 2002 game which is the one in which Duke tried to kick a late field goal to win the game. The kick was like a 62 yarder. The kick sailed to the left and hit the field on like the 5 yard line.We will continue to beat them under TOB.
8/6/2008 3:58:27 PM
no...but i was at duke's last acc winover clemson.that was fun. took them a good 30 minutes to tear down the goal post...guess they hadn't had much practice.
8/6/2008 3:58:54 PM
Also Mike O'Cain only lost to Duke during his first season as head coach. He even beat one of their better teams in 1994 when they were ranked 15 iirc.

Spurrier had Duke playing really good, beat Tennessee... assholes. Is Cutcliffe as good as Spurrier? maybe. He can recruit a lot better, Spurrier hates recruiting. Spurrier is better at X's and O's. The main thing with Cut is that he is really really stubborn. He does not game plan based on the opponent, his outlook is "We are going to do what I taught them to do, and if they execute it right then it doesnt matter if the defense knows what we are going to do or not, we will win more often than we lose" This can be good or bad. But, he did this at Tennessee and Ole Miss where he had a LOT more talent than he will ever have at Duke so who knows, maybe he will change things up a bit now that he will almost have to...He is really good at developing pro skills and technique (Peyton, Eli, Clausen, Ainge) were all 'pro-style' QBs but I dont know if Duke will have the talent at O-line to enable that... whoever is the QB will probably have to create opportunities both inside and outside the pocket
8/6/2008 4:30:36 PM
8/6/2008 4:37:57 PM
It took Spurrier 11-12 years to get that National Championship, so thats not really a fair comparison since Cutcliffe didnt have that long at Ole Miss
8/6/2008 4:45:32 PM
It was actually 7 seasons, but whatever[Edited on August 6, 2008 at 4:55 PM. Reason : you probably included his time at Duke too]
8/6/2008 4:52:50 PM
no it wasnt... he was at Duke alone for at least 3 years, 4 I think... then went to Flawda in 89... didnt win until 96
8/6/2008 4:54:22 PM
If you count total seasons being a head coach then yeah it took him 11 years or so, but it only took him 7 seasons AT Florida to win the NC which coincidentally was the same period of time Cutcliffe was head coach at Ole Miss. Spurrier obviously did about as good as one could possibly expect at Duke, no one was going to win a National Championship there.
8/6/2008 5:00:21 PM
I never said otherwise... just pointing out what Cutcliffe did in his tenure at Ole Miss cant be compared to what Spurrier did during his 'prime' at Florida... it takes a while

JB or whoever else.... if you were an oddsmaker, what would your odds be on BYU reaching (not necessarily winning) the BCS Championship game?My pops in Vegas right now and one of the books has it at 150:1. I def. think they can go undefeated this year in the weak-ass MWC. But I also think that a one-loss UGA, USC, OSU, OU, UF etc team would be taken over BYU even if they were undefeated. Thoughts??? Just wondering if I should throw down $10 or $100.[Edited on August 8, 2008 at 1:44 PM. Reason : g]
8/8/2008 1:34:18 PM
8/8/2008 1:39:43 PM
Yeah, I'm guessing the only chance BYU would have is if all BCS teams had one loss, I have another idea on what I'll bet though.

Greco named No. 1 at UCFhttp://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-collegeqbs1808aug18,0,4573748.storyMichael Greco's college football Odyssey is finally over.Greco graduated from Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons High in 2005 and made two stops at other colleges before settling in at UCF last year. He worked in the shadow of starter Kyle Israel last year, and then found himself locked in a battle with redshirt freshman Joe Weatherford for the starting job this season.Greco collected the reward for his long journey Sunday afternoon when Coach George O'Leary named him UCF's starting quarterback."I think he was consistent more often and made better decisions," O'Leary said of Greco.Related links * Next Up For The UCF Knights Record: 0-0 (0-0) Next: Aug. 30, vs. South Carolina State, 6 p.m. Last: Dec. 29, L to Mississippi State (Liberty Bowl) 10-3 • Photos/Videos: 2007 Tour new football stadium • Schedule/results: 2008 | 2007 | 2006 | 2005 • National schedule: Bowl | TV • UCF: Schedule Stats • C-USA: Schedules | Scores Standings | Stats • Polls: AP | USA Today * Knights blog The latest news about the UCF Knights... As I spoke to them I said, 'Fellas, whoever goes in has to move the team and win football games,' " O'Leary said. "And that's the way it should be. I've always run with one quarterback, if I can. If I can't, then the second guy gets an opportunity."When asked how he felt upon learning he was the starter, Greco replied, "Satisfaction."Greco said he took O'Leary's warning to heart and understands he has to do a good job as the starter or he will quickly be replaced by Weatherford."You gotta get the offense down the field," Greco said. "If you don't move the chains, then you're going to get pulled and someone else is going to come in and move the chains."He said that means there will still be plenty of quarterback competition at practice every day."Really, it don't change nothing," Greco said. "You just gotta keep coming out, practice working hard and just keep getting better."Well, it does change a few things.Greco said he felt immense pressure to look good at every practice and live up to expectations. He knew he was being watched closely and any mistake could cost him his spot on the depth chart. Now, he feels slightly less pressure."It's like a big release on me and Joe, just to know where we stand," Greco said. " . . . I feel like I can relax a little bit and have a little more fun at practice, but I'm still going to give it 110 percent and give it all I got every day."After speaking with reporters for the first time as UCF's starting quarterback, Greco showed a little more emotion. He embraced his parents, who watched practice and were on hand for UCF's fan day. They have watched Greco take a long, winding road to earn a major college starting job.Greco's first stop after high school was N.C. State. He seemed to be off to a good start, earning most improved quarterback and best offensive newcomer awards during N.C. State's 2006 spring practice. Greco wasn't happy at the school and decided to transfer to Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss."It just wasn't a good fit for me at N.C. State, and I knew I needed to find another school," Greco said.He played three games at Pearl River in 2006 before he suffered a season-ending injury."It was just a lot of bad luck," Greco said.Greco said he decided to transfer to UCF because he thought he would fit in well with the offense, and he liked the team. Once he joined the Knights for a few practices, Greco said he realized he was finally home."I love Florida and I was miserable everywhere else," he said. "I'm so happy to be back in the state, and I'm real happy to be here. I think it's going to be a real good year."_________________________________________im glad the kid found a home and a system to play in.
