nope, this is a popularity contest, and David Art. has all the young chicks texting away, he SUCKED last week and wasnt even in the bottom three....he nailed it tonight, he is final 2 and probably the winner with all the chicks voting for him even if he forgets the words(like last week) He will win for sure if paired up to a female, and if he is paired up with a older guy, he probably will win also due to the young chick factor that is all in his corner.

Tonight had a lot of mehs.

I don't really like the rocker girl and the country girl (Kristy?). I think Carly is amazing, but her song choice tonight was only okay. Jason is cute, and has potential.

IDK, I hope Kristy or Amanda go tomorrow.

yeah tonight's performances were just plain weird. definitely shouldn't have done beatles two weeks in a row. last week was great, should have just left it at that

but yeah i'm thinkin christy, rocker chick, asian chick, australian dude are gone in the next four weeks

brooke, david a., david cook in the finals

and for a black guy, chickezie can actually pull country off surprisingly

i haven't watched tonight yet but i hate that country kristy. ugh last week was awful. carly is cool but she annoys me cause she's had professional exp or whatever so she seems sorta cocky. i still like her though. my fav girl is brooke. i think she's supercute and she just kinda has the whole package. like cute, can play piano/guitar, and she is a decent singer so i think she would make it as a pop star? slash i kinda want to be her BFF.

I think it's lame that Idol planted all these people with professional experience on the show. It's supposed to be about the best undiscovered talent in America. That's what gives the show it's charm. Carly and Michael need to get the boot asap.

they want something marketable, and he is the least $ maker sounding out of them all.

people like different, he is not different...he sounds like boyz II men without the coolness.

but brooke looks hot with straight hair and carlys mom is a milf

David Cook blended into the background before his last two performances. That version of Billie Jean verges on being better than the original.

I'm not sure why it matters where the arrangements come from. None of the music is their own, and they don't claim it to be. They probably pick from a library of copyright-cleared songs and arrangements and have the AI staff come up with a shortened/alternative arrangement.

^Agreed. It'd be one thing if he tried to play off these arrangements as his own, but he doesn't. It's not his fault the judges suck his wang with this "YOURE THE MOST ORIGINAL CONTESTANT WE'VE EVER HAD" crap. I still think Brooke wins, but David Cook is right there. Plus, in regards to Brooke, she better stay behind her piano/guitar, because she's almost painful to watch otherwise.

Having said that, I thought Carly blew the hell of total eclipse of the heart. That song is damn near impossible to sing, and she ripped it up. Don't know why the judges didn't like it.

Also, the minute David Archuletta sings anything remotely up tempo is the minute David Archuletta becomes extremely average -- and borderline gay. I like the kid, but he needs to stick to the ballads.

I'm not bashing Cook for his "ripoff" I thought it was freakin incredible, easily the best performance of his, and that's saying something because he's put together some really good performances. The judges laud him on originality though, and that's not his fault, but that's where the criticisms come in... not due to him, but due to the judges' comments.

What did y'all think of Kristy Lee Cook's "God Bless the USA?"

Simon remarked it was a clever choice... indeed it was. She sured up some votes that she will badly need. She's safe, although she and Ramielle are the weakest links.

Chikezie, I liked his performance. I could see listening to his music. I hope he takes off and runs with his bluegrass feel he puts in some of his songs.

Brooke... my favorite. She's awesome.

If you watch the clip again... you'll notice that credit WAS given to Chris Cornell by Ryan Seacrest right before the song was sang. I know a lot of people are saying he plagiarized the song, but he didn't. He took Cornell's version and did his own twist on it.

David Cook has been the most original. He hasn't been consistent, but when he brings it, he brings it. I think he's going to the finals if he can keep this fire going.

Quote :

It was OK. I liked original better. She doesn't seem to put a lot of heart into her songs. She just kind of sings them. Meh.

Quote :
"Brooke... my favorite. She's awesome."

Brooke is my least favorite. She has a raspy voice. It's definately unique, but not my style.

Ramiele Malubay needs to go soon. She's definately vocally talented, but her talent isn't suited for stardom. She just sings her songs and that's it. Nothing special.

Chikezie has a great voice. Better than Reuben from back in the day. But, he's not competing on American Idol 2003. Chikezie is going against the best talent AI has seen. Unless he brings the WOW factor, I don't think he will go far.

David Archuletta has a great voice. But, he's not Hollywood material. He sings happy-go-lucky songs of inspiration and world peace. He's more well suited for Disney than Hollywood.

Michael Johns has an awesome rock voice and style. He and David Cook are the ones to beat when it comes to WOW factor.

Jason Castro has good music for me to sleep to. I might buy his album to play when I'm going to bed. I do like his style. It'd be interesting to have an AI winner with his style win. But, I doubt America will let that happen.

Carly Smithson has a powerful voice. And she can bring the wow factor. But, originality is lacking. That's where I think David cook will win. He has originality and wow factor.

Syesha Mercado can sing beautifully. But, again, no orginality. Very consistent though. Which may help her get into the top 5.

I'm so mixed on Jason. I wish they'd get off of this old time shit and let them sing some contemporary songs. First it was 60s, then 70s, then 80s, then Lennon/McCartney, then Beatles, then songs from their birth, which were all 70s/80s with the exception of Achuletta who just made it in at 1990.

If Jason could sing Jack Johnson, or maybe a bit of the lighter Dave Matthews stuff, I think he would be really good.

I just watched a few videos of AI 2005... I disagree with that "most talent ever" thing. Carrie Underwood single handedly rose that year to heights unseen. She is simply amazing. Search youtube for her rendition of Alone by Heart... destroys Carly's version and Ramielle's easily (although Carly and Ramielle are on TWO DIFFERENT PLAINS altogether).

The thing that David Cook really benefits from is that he knows what he sings well and actually likes that kind of music.

Meanwhile, Michael Johns can sing the absolute shit out of some Queen songs. His Bohemian Rhapsody was great, as was his performance the other night.

For those of your who buy the full length performances on iTunes (assuming any of you do that), how does David Cook's Eleanor Rigby compare to his live performance. I listened to the 30 second sample and it sounded a bit toned down, so I wanted to see if that was the case.

^^yeah, its stupid. and then ryan makes a bit of small talk and then asks what their question is as if we didn't already know their question for the previous 2 minutes.

i was glad to see chikeze sent home...but i was upset that kristy lee cook wasn't in the bottom three. even though she had a pretty good performance this week, i was hoping she'd still be on the brink of elimination since she had sucked the previous weeks. hopefully she'll be the one to leave next week.

like simon said, that was one shrewd choice of a song. She knew coming into this week, she was immediately on the chopping block. Maybe she "sunk" down to get votes, but good for her. She did what she had to do to stay alive.

That being said, I wish Syesha had been sent home instead. Chikezie, in my opinion, has a unique talent that I could see being very big one day... and perhaps even in country music.

It's amusing how after David Cook ripped off the Eleanor Rigby arrangement without giving credit they now explicitly state who did the arrangement before he plays it.

I hate him. If he wins I'm gonna buy a bunch of his CDs, put them in the microwave just long enough to destroy the dye but not disturb the wrapping and return them.

I hope the Australian guy wins.

None of the contestants write anything themselves, and none of them claim to.

The only way music is going to be sung on that show is if the copyright holder gives permission for them to be, and a royalty fee is paid.

Its impossible for them to "rip off" anything.

This fnickelback chris daughtry nu-alternantive fake falsetto balls-eating gutless soft rock stuff has gone too far nowadays. It's all terrible and no one wants it. Thats' why you see Daughtry playing the freakin South Carolina state fair and no one even watching him. lol.

It sounded terrible and the original is one of the most kick ass tunes ever. Someone should slap that dude and wipe that nappy hair off his head for bonus points.

You're missing a key phrase: "verges on". And you might call that hyperbole. But yes, I liked it, for one thing because it isn't arranged as a dance song, and I think that suits the song well. Everything MJ did had to be a dance song, so it was nice to hear a different version of it. And I think he sang it exceptionally well. Obviously its not to your taste, but it was not terrible.

Believe me-- I'm not taking up for the quality of his music, but you can't be serious about Daughtry's popularity... He's a little bigger than the SC state fair. He's Grammy-nominated and sold like 1 million copies of his CD after just over one month of release (the fastest selling debut rock album in Soundscan history, according to Wiki). Reached #1 on the Billboard charts. Opened for Bon Jovi's last tour.

Not saying I care for his music or that genre of music but really, he's done pretty well.

Daughtry had a fairly decent response from the crowd when he opened for Bon Jovi in Greensboro and sang a song with them during their performance. Greensboro probably isn't the best show to judge him on since it's his hometown, but claiming he is washed up is a stretch of the imagination.

He'd be doing a lot better if he'd drop the talentless musicians that surround him and get a proper band.

If I had to rank the top 3 most successful idols (based purely on personal observation and no research whatsoever) with regards to "stardom"....

1. Carrie Underwood
2. Kelly Clarkson
3. Chris Daughtry

This is just from what I see on the news and hear on the radio. I don't watch or listen to Ruben/Fantasia music (it must be because I am racist or something ) so I am of course biased. Actually here is how I personally rank the AI winners. To me, the last 4 on my list are.... meh..

1. Carrie Underwood
2. Kelly Clarkson
3. Jordin Sparks
4. Ruben Studdard
5. Taylor Hicks
6. Fantasia
