Bill Richardson on the gay issues debate hosted by Melissa Etheridge, when asked, said that he thought that being gay was absolutely a choice. When Etheridge asked again to make sure he understood the question, he repeated that it was a choice.Anyways, that bothered me.

^^so is there like a "gay gene" or what?
8/21/2008 9:30:50 AM
It doesn't bother me...homophobia is what scares me, but no one knows where the impulse to be attracted to your own sex comes from scientifically.behavioral scientists will tell you it is still an environmental and development set of psychology that does it....doesn't mean it's implicitly a 'choice' as so much as a set of experiences someone goes through that dispositions them to be gay.
8/21/2008 9:35:16 AM
^^^^ he's hispanic. he has to say that.

Obama / Edwards '08lol
8/22/2008 12:50:49 PM
Choice is likely a joke anyway. At best, our supposed free will comes from random quantum activity. That said, I utterly reject any notions of hardwired sexuality. Sexual behavior changes dramatically based on the circumstances. Our current ideas of sexual orientation are a modern construct.
8/22/2008 12:58:05 PM
Considering how ill informed the majority of the electorate is, I wouldn't want the name Edwards on my ticket if I were Obama.
8/22/2008 12:59:45 PM
the idea of marriage due to love is only like two centuries old
8/22/2008 1:19:51 PM
what does marriage have to do with sexual orientation? And besides that isn't true, marriages for love weren't that uncommon amongst the more "common" classes. Hell, in antiquity, talking pre-christian era, people got married because they were in love with each other.
8/22/2008 1:31:52 PM
8/22/2008 1:45:31 PM

8/22/2008 2:24:49 PM
8/22/2008 2:40:56 PM
i admit iti was trolling because it was starting to slip down familiar RAWR HOMO soap box territory and i wanted to see what would happen if i slipped in something more ridiculous than usual
8/22/2008 2:45:19 PM
well, there has been a lot of history where marriages were arranged. so it wasnt completely inconceivable.
8/22/2008 3:19:15 PM
So when does Jesus announce his Peter?
8/22/2008 3:32:30 PM
When do Christians who apparently don't mind passing judgement actually begin following the bible?
8/22/2008 3:41:37 PM
8/22/2008 3:55:50 PM
what? I was just making reference to the messianic nature of Obama and his faithful. I'm by no means a Christian.
8/22/2008 3:56:02 PM

8/22/2008 4:01:43 PM

Barack Hussein Obama has picked his VP. It's hooksaw. He's trying to nail down that angry middle aged dumb white man vote.
8/22/2008 5:01:45 PM

8/22/2008 5:39:37 PM

i wish that Obama's middle name was Robert.then his initials would be "BRO"much cooler than BHO
8/22/2008 5:48:27 PM
^^ Ride ride ride, let it ride . . . The only thing worse than waiting for Obama's announcement, is watching Wolf Blitzer waiting for Obama's announcement.
8/22/2008 6:03:17 PM
8/22/2008 6:07:46 PM
^you can buy Obama/Bayh, Obama/Clinton, Obama/Biden, and Obama/Kaine stickers from the bootleg carts in Union Square in DC. they've had those all week.
8/22/2008 8:01:56 PM
I was just drudging itThe graphic design on the sticker they showed wasn't nearly the caliber of the campaign--here's some "real" news
8/22/2008 8:26:14 PM
8/22/2008 8:47:11 PM
interesting. this had the potential to be a masterful free media ploy, but I think he drug it out too long. A rare misstep, but not one likely to hurt him.
8/22/2008 8:56:37 PM

8/23/2008 1:13:30 AM

8/23/2008 3:57:36 AM
I actually think Huckabee is pretty stand up guy. I hate to say it but he struck me as such.

come on kainen.huckabee thinks the universe is 6000 years old.
8/23/2008 12:51:51 PM
^ People believe crazy things. Joe Biden actually believes that raising the minimum wage will actually help poor people more than it hurts them, even though economic theory and empirical evidence suggests this is very very unlikely in most cases. Yet...look whos on the VP spot?? And yes, I actually do believe that most progressive economic policies (min wage, tarrifs on trade, etc) are akin to Creationism. To support them requires ignoring clear empirical evidence to the contrary. And I seriously doubt anyone can argue other wise. They're akin to red-meat republican, supply-side bs. [Edited on August 23, 2008 at 1:18 PM. Reason : ``]
8/23/2008 1:14:57 PM
because not having a minimum wage did so much for us. we should just abandon all labor laws.
8/23/2008 1:34:40 PM
McCain will likely pick Willard so they can continue to beat the "drill here, drill now, drill in the skulls of baby seals" mantra that seems to be appealing to the sheep.
