Anyone used Glaser safety slugs? Was thinking they'd be better in a rifle than a SP or JHP. It's really odd they sell them by a 6-pack even for rifle, when a 5-pack would be more expected, or a box of ten. They're made basically as shot in a jacket, supposed to be highly frangible, good for soft targets only and not penetrate through a person.http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=410492

i have been reading about the HK P30 and would like to shoot it. does anyone on here own one or know of a local range that has one for rent yet? also what stores locally are likely to carry this gun?

I carry a sig pro 229 most of the time, unless I am at a bar or in DC. There is a petition for airline pilots to have access to a pistol in the cockpit. When I was doing indoc. with United, we all had basic and advance tactical shooting classes in the hope that we will be able to arm aircraft. Probably won't happen but who knows.

There are currently airline pilots with guns... not very many of them but some of them. And the ones that do have to go through all of the training that air marshals do.[Edited on December 13, 2007 at 3:29 PM. Reason : .]

HK's are awesome the only thing I have not been impressed with is replacement parts availability. HK has always been bad about stocking parts. All firearms need parts eventually I dont care who made it.

if the p30 would come down in price to about $450-500 i'd jump on it.as it is now, $700 isn't my bag, baby.i'd rather spend that and get a sig.[Edited on December 15, 2007 at 10:26 PM. Reason : maybe a 1911 like magnum p.i.]

has anyone shot on the range at eagle one yet? interested to hear about the range and the membership pricing...and the hours.
12/17/2007 9:49:14 PM
^ eagle1supply.comwebsite.the range isn't bad, it's not fantastic either. the long ass time they spent setting it up was really not worth it.they don't rent guns.$13 hr to rent a booth.[Edited on December 18, 2007 at 2:06 PM. Reason : i go there b/c it's the closest to my house.]

i was really wrong about eagle1, it's brightly lit and ventilated. brighter than davi's. i dunno what i was thinking about earlier. must have been smoking crack.
12/20/2007 11:09:26 AM
eagle 1 is fairly nice. i havnt seen the range, but the lobby is cool. the guys are nice also.
12/20/2007 11:19:59 AM
^^^ have you shot the regular MarkIII and the 22/45? Did they seem pretty different or pretty similar? i know the 22/45 is supposed to be modeled like a 1911.Does anyone know eagle1's price for 1 yr membership? It would have to be better that pdhsc to persuade me since pdhsc is open 1 hr later than eagle1 on weekdays and weekends.[Edited on December 20, 2007 at 11:08 PM. Reason : s]

^ I hate direct gas impingement more than anyone you'll ever meet, but that looks like a hangfire that has more to do with the ammo than anything else.
12/23/2007 3:32:57 AM
an AR is a perfectly fine firearmnot my ideal assault rifle caliberI'd prolly take an AK over an AR if life depended on it... but thats more due to .30 cal (7.62x39)vs .22 cal(.223)now I love the big bore ARs and the new 6.8 AR though[Edited on December 23, 2007 at 3:43 AM. Reason : .]
12/23/2007 3:39:50 AM
Not to be a dick, but I would hardly characterize 7.62x39mm as a .30 round.
12/23/2007 3:41:53 AM
it's still more of a round than the .223 despite how weak it is for a .30 class bulletI'm down with .223's tooa .223 is more accurate, but if life depended on it I'd take the AK over the AR[Edited on December 23, 2007 at 3:46 AM. Reason : .]

Anybody in Raleigh go the the gun show?http://cegunshows.com/Show%20Information/raleigh_nc.aspxI didn't realize there was one until last night, so I'm going today
12/23/2007 9:21:22 AM

now that is a .30 cal (7.62x54r)
12/23/2007 11:18:28 AM
you did see the AR guy have several duds or fail to chamber, right? and hitting the forward assist two to three times? that was shitty ammo, reloads with weak brass or a squib and he fired into it.

not trying to be judgmental at all, but those of you who carry concealed guns, do you ever use them? or is it just a comfort/security thing?
12/23/2007 5:11:29 PM
What do you mean by "use"? I wear my seatbelt but haven't been in a wreck, so do I really "use" my seatbelt?
12/23/2007 5:38:26 PM
lolI meanI've had instances where I made sure it was on melike... helping someone broke down on the side of the roadand stopping at sketch ass places at night
12/23/2007 5:45:46 PM
12/23/2007 6:58:10 PM
the problem is in nc its almost always illegal to actually use it. at the very least can't you still get in trouble for discharging a firearm within city limits?
12/23/2007 9:28:18 PM
i mean like do you carry it around in public with the intent of whipping it out during the right circumstances? i'm just trying to wrap my head around why you would ever need it. i guess i've just got this image of a guy with a shoulder harness carrying a glock under his sport coat

where (locally) or online (for a good price) can i get:the cleaning rod (carbon fiber or coated stainless - i'd rather not scratch anything).hoppe's benchrest copper solventi recieved this for xmas:which uses uncoated brass rods.i want to do this right. i'd rather get the right tools the first time. instead of a bunch of pieces i'll never get around to using.i was thinking about using hoppe's moly aerosol. yea or nea?[bold]the pistol comes greased up, or so i've heard. what is the procedure for cleaning it?[/bold][Edited on December 27, 2007 at 12:29 AM. Reason : d]
12/27/2007 12:21:33 AM
That kit should work fine for pistols because you only need the part with the handle.Brass isn't bad, just make sure you wipe it off after each pass like with all rods. Most gun stores will have nice rods, I know PDHSC has the Pro-Shot rods. Most places, including most Walmarts and K-marts have the Hoppe's Benchrest.I'd skip the moly lube. It's much simpler to just use Breakfree CLP as a cleaner and a lube.If you mix some cleaners with some oils then you could get a reaction that creats salts that can corrode or abrade.New guns do come packed in a preservative grease or oil that sucks as a lube. More importantly you need to get any metal debris out of the gun before shooting. To clean:-field strip it (read owner's manual)-run a solvent soaked patch through the bore of the barrel twice. set barrel aside.-use an oil soaked patch to rub down all the internal surfaces of the slide, the frame rails, the outside of the barrel, the recoil guide rod, and the recoil spring. Q-tips come in handy to get into the slide and frame rails.-wipe off excess lube-run a dry patch through barrel, then another solvent soaked patch. Run another dry patch through the barrel. If the patch comes out clean then put more dry patches through til it's dry.Put an oiled patch down the barrel and follow it with a dry patch. The idea is to leave a very light film of oil in the barrel.-reassemble the gun-lock the slide back, put a drop of oil on your finger, then use your finger to put the oil onto the outside of the barrel. Do the same with the front frame rails, rear slide rails, and the recoil rod. Let the slide go forward and put an itty bitty amount of oil on the hammer where it rubs against the slide.-use a lightly oiled patch to wipe down the outside of the gun.-take the mags apart and wipe them down (along with springs) with a lightly oiled patch to clean them. You don't need to oil mags, just leave a light layer of oil with the patch.Your gun needs enough oil to work right and to avoid wear, but if you put on too much oil it can attract dirt, gum up the action, or even kill ammo primers.

I got a nice cleaning mat last year for Christmas...probably like 2' x 3' and some layered material that does a great job of absorbing all your oils and grease, etc...I think Remington makes it...good accessory for cleaning, depending on your setup, how much free space you have in your house, etc
12/27/2007 4:04:54 PM
Cleaning mats are nice. They help prevent lost parts too....I use hand towels that I stole from hotels
