holy shit

maybe this has been covered before in previous season's threads

but watching the BET American Gangster on Melvin Williams, he was cast as the church social worker in the end of Season 2/3 that Cutty goes to for help getting a job...The church Deacon...and he was the fucking OG of the heroin trade in Baltimore...I know they had cameos like that but I never connected the two till I saw him on the BET doc.

yeah i remember seeing something about him on one of the hbo specials a couple seasons ago...if you watch carefully you can almost guess SOME of the people who got in for cameos or small roles from their past...the wire does a good job of getting realistic looking characters, but you can tell the actors are the 'pretty' ones and some of the others look like normal people

oh yeah man, when i watched this i was so surprised. he was a number runner before the cops planted drugs on him. said he has spent over 1/3 of his life locked up in one way or another.
said when he got out of jail for the bogus drug charge he decided that if the government wanted to make him out to be a drug dealer then he was going to be the best drug dealer the world has ever seen. shit was gangsta.

snoop is also the real deal. she has a book out im thinking about picking up.

Fucking awesome show. Just spent the last 3 weeks watching all the seasons in a row, and finally got caught up for season 5. If you are planning on watching this show for the first time, only do it if you start at season 1. The entire series is one long story line, and its not going to be as good if you start in the middle or just catch a few episodes here and there.

Snoop has to be one of my favortie characters. The scene with her in the hardware store buying the nailgun is one of the funniest scenes in the whole series.

It was one of the funniest up until this season's opening scene with the polygraph test.

Damnit, this sucks big time. For the last 3 weeks since I started with season 1, I have had fresh episodes to watch whenever I wanted. Now I finished up s05e02 the other night and I am all out of new stuff. I need my fix and I can't get it! Shouldn't s05e03-e07 be online since they are released on most OnDemands. Charter only has through episode 2.

Ok, the torrents for s05e5-7 are up, so like someone above posted, where the hell are episodes 3 and 4!?!?!

well episodes 3 and 4 still aren't up on torrent sites, but i'm guessing episode 3 is onDemand now so us impatient downloaders will only have to watch it on sunday nights through eps 3 and 4 then we can finally watch damn 5,6,7

Anyone think Avon is fucking over Marlo? I just don't see him trying to help Marlo that easy. Also how he threw that over the top west side hand to him after he got done talking to the white dude just seemed contrived. Thoughts?

ep 3, was powerful, but in a very predictable way

^^thought that was fairly obvious.

if anything, ive been disappointed in the obviousness that simon has presented season 5

maybe ive been watching so long that i start to see around the corners more, but to me it was kind of insulting to lay it out so simple for everyone...

I just realized while watching Prison Break last night, the first time I have seen a PB episode since starting on The Wire about a month ago, that Major Colvin is also Lechero. I knew I recognized him from somewhere.

And Charter still doesn't have s05e03-04 up on ondemand yet

^^I think he's being fairly obvious to make the viewers get that sense that "this is it", everything is coming to a head. In past seasons the vagueness was ok because the story would continue. Season 5 is laying it all out there for the grand finale.

I wasn't a big fan of the editor at first, but after episode two, and Scott's bs, i like him.

instead of using the cops to do the investigation part of the show each episode, this season they use the media...kind of just re-painting the same concept but with reporters instead of cops...but i think it works

I think Avon was just trying to get his piece of the transaction...send Bri 100 large and you can talk to the greeks...course i think maybe prop joe is gonna hear (or already has heard) about marlo trying to cut out the co-op and then some shit will pop off...that scene with Avon and Marlo is dope though cause Avon is in total control of the situation, even when he's locked down

yeah i guess what i meant by "fairly obvious" re: marlo and avon is, it's obvious all the "WEST SIIIIIIDE" bravado is just a show...he's not actually interested in helping out marlo because he a west side dude

The whole time I was watching episode 3, I kept thinking to myself that Joe has to know what's going on. He's too smart not to see it. Even if he doesn't, I'm sure the Greek guy would've tipped him off.

I agree with some people/posts I read earlier this week... kinda got the impression that Avon, while in control of the information, was not the same Avon who thought there's only two days you ever do in prison... the first and the last. His cockiness was too broad and too proud.

The west-side sign, the siding with someone he was about to War with... it seems like Avon was stretching for a taste of his old life outside, and it all came across as sad. Marlo now is the king of Avon's old empire, the Barksdale crew dissolved.

Marlo certainly seemed even colder than usual while talking to him, but I got the impression his behavior was calculated... he was playing along with everything to get to "boris."
