^^ NICEI wish I could get a month off to do a trip, 2 weeks is practically just a tease. What was your favorite part of the trip?
6/28/2009 9:43:14 PM
hiking in the grand canyon and sedona was pretty fun, as was the red wood forests with the trees wider than my car is long. Walking around the hot springs at yellow stone was pretty awesome as well.I love driving so this was a great trip for me.I spent almost $1200 in gas alone. My fiance was the navigator.
6/28/2009 9:48:57 PM
Sounds like me and the wife Any recommendations for Yellowstone?
6/29/2009 7:53:54 PM
At yellowstone, we entered the west entrance and left the east entrance, traveling the southern half of the loop. Just the drive was a couple of hours. We got out at all of the pull outs and took pictures and did the walking/hiking trails.

What constitutes a road trip, to you all?Ratio of driving:time at destination?Choosing to drive, over another mode of transportation? The intention of the trip?A threshold of drive time?[Edited on July 27, 2009 at 2:18 PM. Reason : sdl]

To amplify that: I am at the point where I plan drives based on the road - like I will plan out how long it takes to cross the country on a transcontinental highway - like to follow US 70 from Atlantic all the way to its historical end in Los Angeles - following the historic routing, and taking 8 hours a day would take 10 days.It was called the Broadway of America, and it was a literal cross-section of America.

The 10,000 mile road trip I took with some friends of mine back in 2006 was awesome. We camped out most every night and hit as many national parks/monuments/etc. in the US that we could. I've been to 38 states so far, and of them all, I really enjoyed Washington.Arches NP10k miles in a Chevy Conversion Van]

Me and a friend are in the preliminary stages of planning a trip from Atlanta to San Francisco by way of Badlands, SD on motorcycles. Right now the plan is to do it one way in 9 days. We'll ship the bikes back and fly home. That will be roughly 350-400 miles/day depending on the route.I've never done anything like this. I've never even been on a real vacation. (When I was a kid, vacations were 1 day at the beach). Since graduating in 2000, any time i've taken off from work has been either injury related or just a day here and there for job interviews, personal business, etc. Needless to say, I'm getting really burned out and need a substantial break. Can't wait. Now, if I could only figure out a way to fund this trip. I still don't even have a motorcycle yet.
