hmm...apparently the request period is open for the first exhibition basketball game against Barton College next thursday at 7. Just got an email saying the request period would start shortly but the website says it ends tonight at 12. lol
10/24/2007 8:32:24 PM
Just come by the wolfpack club office. Plenty of purple passes still left.
10/25/2007 1:40:06 AM
apparently we lost the lottery for the bball exhibition game? that's ridiculous. did anyone else not get tickets to that? are they actually all gone, or is the system fucked up?
10/25/2007 10:35:25 AM
My guess is that the system is fucked. You can go to the ticket website, click on reserve ticket and it'll take you to an On-Demand page. It then gives you a "No seats found that match your request." message though after you click continue.ha and it also tells you "The print on-demand period for this event will end at 11/2/2007 12:00:00 PM." Considering that the game is on the 1st, that's kinda pointless. [Edited on October 25, 2007 at 10:39 AM. Reason : ]
10/25/2007 10:36:40 AM
that's what it says when they're out of seats isn't it?
10/25/2007 10:42:37 AM
i didn't get one either. i refuse to believe that they are all out of seats.
10/25/2007 10:53:18 AM
anyone have an extra uva student ticket?
10/26/2007 1:50:24 AM
man the ticket system is fuckin upi just tried to claim a ticket, and it gave me one in section 312. are the early game not GA this year?lol it also says the game is at noon.
10/26/2007 8:18:11 AM
The time for the basketball games have always been screwed up. And just click on the ticket, it's general admission for the exhibition games. It was the same way last year and I was like wtf until I clicked on the ticket.
10/26/2007 8:23:48 AM
willing to trade a parking pass for a student ticketanyone? I have the pass, you have an extra, lets get acquainted.

10/27/2007 9:29:51 AM
I thought the two exhibition games were general admission...why does it have a claim period for the Barton game??
10/27/2007 9:51:53 AM
just b/c it's general admission doesn't mean you don't need a ticket. every football game is general admission for students...
10/27/2007 10:02:15 AM
yeah i'm a dumbass i wasn't thinking about that

i posted this on packpride about student tickets for football games. there were a lot of complaints about empty seats in the NEZ and how bad it looks.
10/28/2007 8:45:39 PM
I've heard quite a few people say that they tried to print their tickets saturday morning, but weren't able to. I always save the webpage as soon as I claim the ticket so I can print it later regardless of the current state of the online system. I went to the ticket website after the game and I could still print my ticket so maybe it was just a problem with certain people or just earlier that day. Most people are talking about the empty seats in 14/15. When I rewatched the game, 14/15 looked like it was pretty much empty and maybe half full at halftime. And with the old voucher system, members of SG would hoard winning vouchers for their friends and some people would either have a winning voucher and not claim it or get a ticket and not use it. This led to a bunch of empty seats but they weren't grouped together so it didn't look as bad. I'd like to see the actual cutoff point for the number of students they let into 7/8 and the SEZ compared to the actual capacity.I don't see a full GA system actually working. Unless you used stamps or something similar, you'd still have to deal with overcrowding in 7/8. And how would parking for the fairgrounds work? Just make it available to anyone or give out parking passes to people who may/may not get tickets? And I'm sure the lines would be horrible because you'd need to use certain gates in order to keep track of the number of students entering the stadium.
10/28/2007 9:00:21 PM
yeah i didn't mean scrap the stamping/student entrance process. i would still say keep the stamps as-is, and just do hands since there'd be no tickets (maybe w/ink that doesn't wash off as easy). regardless, there's no excuse for empty seats in the student section, and i don't think i'm off in my claim that there are students every week that would have gone to the game if they had tickets but they don't have them. i don't think there's ever been a game i wanted to go to that i haven't managed to get a ticket for, but that's just b/c if i don't win the initial lotteries i basically refresh the on-demand constantly until one shows up.i'm just sick of knowing that probably hundreds of claimed tickets go unused at every game just b/c the people that won them aren't as dedicated to going as others. we need some sort of system in place that will account for this. if the answer isn't scrapping the online system for football altogether, as that is probably a drastic move at this point, perhaps we could institute a new policy that makes it GA to all students starting X minutes before kickoff. This would probably require opening another gate or two to student entry since there's already logjams with students entering the stadium. If we did something like that, it would encourage ticket-holding students to line up a little sooner so they wouldn't lose their seats (which would help with the last-minute logjams anyway). I really think that doing something like this would ensure that we don't get embarrassed with the NEZ and 14/15 sections being barren. doing something like this would obviously mean that there'd be a few unfortunate fans that had tickets that don't get into the game b/c they show up at kickoff or later, but i think that this is an incredibly minor price to pay if it means the student sections are packed. one poster over there suggested the possibility that administration may just continue to let the faulty system leave empty seats in the student sections so that they can justify converting current student sections to LTR seats and sell them to alumni to make more money. i'm graduating in may, but i still don't want to see this happen. i want as many students at the games as possible b/c they are what makes the home field advantage at carter-finley so great. are the people in charge open to hearing ideas like these, or is there no chance of doing something about these empty seats? i know there's enough students that actually want to go to the games to fill the seats every week. the #1 issue to address is getting the students in the seats to begin with. a distant #2 is the issue of fans not returning after the half. i think addressing #1 would make #2 less of an issue anyway.

I'm sure you can probably email dick christy(dick_christy AT ncsu.edu) with suggestions/concerns. Maybe talk to a writer for the technician about an article.
