^when i was building up my coupon collection, I got a ton of coupons from Ebay for like $1.50Also Coupon Clippers is a good website...They let you pick out what coupons you want. It is a little pricey, each coupon counts about $.08 or $.10 and the minimum you can spend is $3.00 w/o the administrative and "handling" fees...I got 16 coupons for about $3.60. I like using ebay because it is cheaper but you can run into problems. Some of the sellers send coupons for products that NC grocery stores don't carry.

I spent $26 and saved $70 last Thursday at Harris Teeter triple coupons. Finally some good sales. I didnt get a ton of food items, but I got a lot of stuff I needed that normally costs a lot.
11/12/2007 10:57:47 AM
heard that lowes food is going to do triples once more before the end of the year and then thats it, no more lowes food triples
11/15/2007 9:44:01 AM
no more this year or no more ever?
11/15/2007 9:50:54 AM
one more this year and then no more ever for lowes foods
11/15/2007 10:17:55 AM
man wtf...they must have been losing too much money on it
11/15/2007 10:20:04 AM
They must have some bean counter making that decision. They may lose some money on it but darned if they don't get a bunch of word of mouth advertising from it. I know I have talked about or heard from other people about triple coupons for years but last Saturday was the first time I ever actually took advantage of it (talking about HT). I didn't do so hot. I think the triple coupon limit was 20 and we just didn't have any really wonderful coupons saved up. We ended paying $60 for $95 worth of groceries. -- Dave

Thats fine. I dont care too much about the triple coupon policy. Its rare that I end up getting a lot of consumables from triples. If they change their double policy, I'll never shop there again.
11/15/2007 11:08:06 AM
i dont get how they can double them...i know yall talked about it before but pretty much all the coupons i see say "do not double" in the fine print[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 11:11 AM. Reason : or "may not be reproduced"]
11/15/2007 11:11:05 AM
^ No they don't. The type you find in the grocery store on those little pop-up things or that come attached to a product say that, but most of the ones you find in the newspaper and such don't say so.Reproduced means you can't photocopy the coupon and use the copies, not that you can't double it. For manufacturer coupons, the manufacturer will only reimburse for the face value of the coupon, so I'm not sure why they say 'don't double'. I believe any change in price because of doubling or tripling is picked up by the store. Maybe the manufacturers want to make it clear to stores that they aren't responsible for reimbursing anything except for the face value of the coupon. I used to program Point of Sale software and got my fill of dealing with coupons. Interesting tax fact: The store is supposed to charge tax on the full value of an item if it is paid for with a manufacturers coupon. The store is eventually going to be reimbursed for the coupon amount by the manufacturer and the state wants its cut of the total amount of the sale. For store coupons (paper coupons or electronic stuff like VIC of MVP) the store is supposed to charge tax only on the adjusted price of the item because they are forgiving that discount at the time of the sale and will never see that income in the future. -- Dave

Swinkle, I have a lot of coupons, and many (not most) do actually say not to double. But the store owners dont pay attention to that. Probably has to do with the manufacturers not having their product images cheapened.[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 12:58 PM. Reason : .]

ooh - and I need to shop, too!I also clip coupons - why in the hell should I pay full price when I can get it for half off (or even better, free!)?I'm a fairly healthy eater so I seem to save the most on meats and ingredients in the "inside" of the store (i.e. - not produce) - stuff like chicken stock, canned veggies, peanut butter, etc. just becuase you eat a lot of healthy food doesn't mean coupons can't save you money!
12/27/2007 11:25:22 PM
yeah, a lot of the coupons are for processed foodsbut i stock up on paper goods, cleaning products, shampoo, etc during triples

12/31/2007 3:41:51 AM
so how often does HT do triple coupons?can you get multiple items per coupon?]
12/31/2007 8:57:33 AM
So are all of the coupons in the Sunday paper?I have never had a weekly newspaper delivered to any house i've lived in
12/31/2007 9:43:34 AM
^^^In the past HT has done triples 4 times a year. Recently, it has been every couple of months. You have to have one coupon per product. With this rule, you can really save money with BOGO items b/c you can use 2 coupons but are only paying the price of one. You are only allowed 3 identical coupons per a trip. ^^ The majority of my coupons come from the Sunday paper. On occasion I order them from the internet, but that is usually only before a triples sale.
12/31/2007 6:57:16 PM
I did a quick run this morningthe deals really aren't that great. Very few coupons match up with VIC specials.Got 2 betty crocker cookie mixes, 2 betty crocker frostings, 2 mrs. dash's marinades, 2 mrs. dash's seasonings, one baker's joy cooking spray, one no yolk noodles, one package of duracell AA batteriesBC: 29.99OOP: 6.64Really not great. I need to get my coupon stock back up since mostly all my coupons expired on 12/31/2007.

I've been thinking of subscribing to that coupongame website. Does anyone know if it's still worth it given the existence of this N&O blog?
2/2/2008 3:01:29 PM
^ I love the website. I easily make the money back I pay for in subscriptions, and I use 2 of their lists. Its easy to use, you can print the list in the order of the store layout, its about 95% accurate for me, and I save a ton of money. Typically 60-70% on my grocery bill.
2/2/2008 6:09:52 PM
Sweet.. I think I'll subscribe to it whenever Financial Aid decides to give me my $
2/2/2008 6:50:24 PM
there's a woman who works for N&O named Sue Stock that does pretty much the same thing as Grocery GameShe puts up a list of all the good deals for each grocery store on Wednesdays and which coupons match upbest of all its freehttp://projects.newsobserver.com/taking_stock
2/2/2008 6:53:34 PM
^ I can't figure hers out. Just looks like a giant database of coupons. Do you have to check the circular and then try to match them yourself. The beauty of the grocery game is every Sunday morning you print out a complete list of everything on sale and want coupon to price it with. Gives you the final price and the % saved. All on a printable grocery list. Maybe the N&O lady does that too, but I can't find it.I went to Lowes Food this morning:Total Bill before Savings: $79.46Total Spent: $23.57List:6 boxes of Wheat Thins2 boxes of Triscuits4 bags of Cheerios Snack Mix3 bags of Chex Snack Mix3 boxes of Pop Secret Popcorn3 packages of Kraft Cheese Snacks3 boxes of frozen Cordon Bleu sandwiches
2/3/2008 3:50:52 PM
hers is under "wednesday deals" on her blogshe tells you what is on sale at each store and what coupon to use with it to get the best savings. the database of coupons is just to see when the coupon came out and such.here's the link to this week's deals:http://projects.newsobserver.com/taking_stock/wednesday_deals_6She posts the deals on Wednesdays b/c that is when the new deals come out. She also posts deals for drug stores[Edited on February 3, 2008 at 4:26 PM. Reason : f]
