Hahahahahah, so true. But seriously, most everyone in here has played WoW. You should all know by now, KILL THE HEALER FIRST.

lol^ Man eventually people will realize that medics are good with other classes too. Plop one on a demoman and it's suprising the havoc one can cause in let's say, the middle of their base on 2fort to let flag runners through.

I like how the scrubs that get their shit pushed in CS complain when you mention how weak sniping is. Honestly, what's the point if even after charging it's not 1 shot 1 kill?

All I wanted is a new "The Hunted". Granted, they are going to have beef up snipers first or there is no way that map could work as is, with 5 snipers vs. x number of soliders, hw guys, and medics. The main problem with snipers is the complete inability to make use of the sniper rifle unless you are zoomed in. In TFC, sure snipers were squishy, but at the very least, you never felt incapable of defending your self against really any class at any range. The way it is now, your only capable of getting kills while zoomed in from afar. Very lame.[Edited on September 21, 2007 at 9:15 PM. Reason : :]
9/21/2007 9:13:50 PM
I disagree with that. On TFC hunted, the snipers always completely crushed the hunted every time. The score was always something like 400-50. I think it could work just fine like this.
9/21/2007 9:53:25 PM
You apparently never played on a properly admined hunted server. When snipers weren't allowed to use the AR on the prez, and the teams were evenly balanced, you could have some very competitive matches.
9/21/2007 10:25:21 PM
holy shit. I forgot all about "the well" being an old fortress map it was weird playing 2fort again. it looked kinda new and it took me a few minutes to get used to, but it's a pretty faithful recreation of the old maploving this game so far
9/21/2007 11:24:31 PM
I played the game for 8 years. If you have to impose limitations like banning the use of auto rifle, then obviously the map isn't balanced well. That is why I am saying I feel like it would work better in a regular pub environment in TF2 with these snipers. Regardless, I imagine when they do release it they will modify the gameplay a lot from the original concept.
9/21/2007 11:35:13 PM
nice game earlier today Shrike, you aren't bad.
9/22/2007 1:31:54 AM
Protips from a scout:-A good defense is effective. 8 engineers is not. If I tell you that I can't get into their base, and the score remains tied for over 20 minutes, you should probably pick another class.-Transporters are usually useless to me, so stop telling me to use them. The only way I can get into the base effectively (I should say instead the "Best" way) is by double jumping onto the second level from outside. If you can somehow be an uber engineer and sneak a teleporter exit onto the old school cap spot (the inner covered area on the sniper level) than I will love you forever.-I can't kill a sentry gun. If I tell you that there is one anywhere in my path, most importantly in the briefcase room, that means someone has to get off their ass and change classes and come help.-If you are not on defense, then your role is to clear the way for me. That means killing snipers and engineers. With a perfectly clear path I can probably spawn, run to the other base, grab the briefcase, and cap in under 60 seconds.[Edited on September 22, 2007 at 5:52 PM. Reason : ]

you just need to strafe in shoot and get out before the SG tracks. Its not hard to do.
9/22/2007 9:26:56 PM
With that shotgun? It can be done, sure. But by the time you've gotten it to 50% health the engineer will probably have already showed up to kill you.

AR?
9/24/2007 1:08:25 PM
Assault Rifle. Extremely overpowered secondary weapon given to snipers in TFC/TF1.5. Did a lot of damage and was 100% accurate at any range. Basically, you could point it at the prez from half way across the map, squeeze off a few rounds and he was dead. The server I did most of my playing on had adminbot setup to auto-kickban anyone who killed the prez with the AR.[Edited on September 24, 2007 at 3:26 PM. Reason : long time ago, self damage came later, and was hilarious]
9/24/2007 3:21:59 PM
I barely remember hunted. Most of the times I played on Rock2 Deadlode servers or 2fort/4fort/Well
9/24/2007 5:25:15 PM
I hope the custom mappers take to TF2 like they did TFC; that was one of the things that I loved most about that game. I just looked in my TFC maps folder and I have 681 map files in there.
9/24/2007 5:31:33 PM
And here's another thing I hate about sniping in TF2, your targets don't gib!!!!!! I understand trying to make use of ragdoll physics and the like, but seriously, when I headshot a scout with a fully charged shot, he should go splat!

i love the game, but like 6-7 maps that's it? if thats all they got its disappointing now matter how your rationale it. I'm already tired of some. Granted i've played about 21-22 hours but still.
9/24/2007 11:51:08 PM
you're playing a beta
9/25/2007 12:05:35 AM
^^^ It was no different with TFC. The original Valve maps were 2fort, well, hunted, rock2, and cz2 (I think that's it). I was referring to player created maps (a good bit of which were much better and more imaginative than anything Valve ever made).I have already seen two custom maps released for TF2, one of which is in regular rotation on a number of servers. They aren't very imaginative, though. Basically just released so that they could get the first custom map out there.[Edited on September 25, 2007 at 12:40 AM. Reason : custom maps]
9/25/2007 12:39:34 AM
^^Haha no, this is the full game. 6 maps is it for now. I've said this before, they only reason they are calling it a beta is so people can't complain about bugs And I have no problem with the current number of maps. I only ever played 2-3 maps in TFC anyway. Some of the better maps didn't come till much later anyway, like Warpath, Avanti, and Dustbowl. [Edited on September 25, 2007 at 7:25 AM. Reason : :]
9/25/2007 7:20:36 AM
well I'm a fan of variety, and I don't really get that in this game. I like lots of different maps, specifically CTF ones. There's only one current CTF map...and I think that's too limited. I come from a heavy Quake background and I'm used to lots of varying situations and maps in which to learn. And saying, "that's how the original was (meaning TFC)" doesn't mean much to me. It's not like we're making an homage to the original. It's a sequel or continuation of the series with significantly more resources allocated to it's development. You'd think they'd throw in a bit more than 6 maps, would it hurt to have a pair of CTF maps? Let me be clear, I love this game, and would have gladly paid double the amount for just this part of the orange box, and I'm not leaving it anytime soon - it's just kind of a gripe as I get tired of maps like grannary that don't do very much for me, and I miss more CTF. I'm looking forward to the custom content, as the material and gameplay mechanics are so good I can see a wealth of possibilities.
9/25/2007 7:59:49 AM
By the way, if for some reason or another you don't like giving Steam your credit card number, you can go pre-order Orange Box for the PC at Gamestop/EB Games and they'll give you a key to go play TF2 now.
9/25/2007 10:50:32 AM
fuck man, had I known that I most definitely would have........there's something to be said for having a hard copy in your hand of something you pay good money for
9/25/2007 11:46:50 AM
There is also something to be said about being able to play any of your games on Steam at any computer with the internet.
9/25/2007 12:32:58 PM
yeah the digital distro is the way to go. I love it being there whenever I logon to steam, takes no time at all to reinstall games (download from steam servers is blazing fast). Love it...and I know it's permanent. Steam isnt going away anytime soon
9/25/2007 12:59:21 PM
That is, until the zombie invasion.....

9/25/2007 1:30:19 PM
Meh, I would shed a very tiny tear if games went completely to digital distribution. And this is coming from someone who has a pretty massive collection of boxes in his closet. It's cool and all, but nothing beats the convenience of download and play. I'd probably still buy collector's editions of the big releases, cuz I'm just a dork like that. Also, if you download a game, a much larger % of you're money goes to the developer, in this case almost all since Valve runs the distribution system itself. If you buy Orange Box from the store, you're giving money to EA. Do you really want to give EA more money? [Edited on September 25, 2007 at 1:42 PM. Reason : :]

Why does it seem like no one understands the ubercharge? I try to give people notice that I'm about to charge them and they should move into a congested area, but usually when I charge them they either don't move, or retreat.
9/26/2007 12:40:16 PM
^^que God to come in here and bitch and whine how its not impressive to get high scores as a [insert your class here]...
9/26/2007 1:12:49 PM
the only class it isnt impressive with is heavy assuming you got a medic ridin your nuts, like you will every map
9/26/2007 9:12:27 PM
thats an impressive score but I'd rather die a lot more often than sit around way far away and never touch my keyboard, but hey... it's your money
9/26/2007 9:15:30 PM
what gives you the impression that I was sitting far away and not doing anything? not dying means I ended up doing a lot more, not having to wait for respawnsmost of my deaths occurred when there weren't targets in the open and I had to start going into hallways and other generally sniper-unfriendly places, but I wasn't just sitting on my hands
9/26/2007 10:17:01 PM
yeaaaaaah I'm sure you were right there on the frontlines mr. sniper
