arrrrgh, unexpected bills are pwning memight not be able to get this for quite a while
11/10/2007 3:59:09 PM
The worst part about this game will be finding someone who wants to sing, and can actually do it decently.
11/11/2007 7:23:36 AM
^That's what I'm thinking. I can find plenty of people who'd love to play lead or bass guitar or drums, but singing? Not so much
11/11/2007 11:49:28 AM
yeah but im pretty sure you can play any amount of instruments and the game fills in the rest....like just drums or drums and guitar, etc
11/11/2007 12:32:58 PM
Yeah, i figured you could go without the singer, but I think having 4 people will be half the fun.Just gotta convince one of the guys girlfriends to be the singer.
11/11/2007 7:20:37 PM
that's why i was thinking about getting a mic stand. drum while singing. i played a few songs on the best buy demo on expert. it'll be harder with a kick pedal, but a lot of the drums are repetitive, so it won't be too hard to sing while playing. they sell stands at best buy, but i didn't check out the prices. it's $25 on ebay. i'm pretty sure just laying the mic on a table will work also.
11/12/2007 12:30:32 AM
I didn't like the guitar scoring system they have, it's not as versatile as Guitar Hero.I did like the feel of the drums though. If they could have the Rockband drums, and the Guitar Hero guitar scoring, it would be the perfect game, IMO.
11/12/2007 12:38:13 AM
you liked the feel of the drums? idk, drumming w/o being able to do drumrolls kinda sux imo. i was thinking either rubber bands or bouncy balls from a gumball machine would solve that problem.
11/12/2007 12:42:50 AM
The pads seemed rubbery to me, enough to drum roll if you had to.I only played easy, so I didn't actually attempt to drum roll, but I did think that if I had to, I could have.
11/12/2007 12:48:34 AM
I hate the way the drums sound, I saw one at Best Buy today and this girl was playing it, and they have this really annoying plasticky rap-rap-rapping....you'd think they'd go for a more rubber action so you can have more dynamics to the stick but it's essentially like drumming on Tupperware lids. Also, one of the pads was impaled by someone drumming too hard. Not a good sign for me, but i'm sure many will say YMMV.
11/12/2007 2:11:42 AM
the drum pad breaking is abuse. i've touched the pads and they aren't paper thin.oh why don't they have it for the wii
11/12/2007 3:04:51 AM
for those that didn't preorder, here's your best chancehttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat136400050001&type=categorycary best buy at midnight
11/13/2007 10:02:24 AM
You'd pretty much have to hit the pads with a hammer to break 'em. The Harmonix guys said they've broken drumsticks on the sets and they were still fine.

My roommate and I checked this game out at best buy the other night. He played the drums for years and did the hardest song on expert the second time he played with a 96%. I tried and failed out on hard and others we saw play struggled with the drums. Anyone know why the release date of the guitar and drum kit shows up at 2/8/2008 but the game is 11/20?
11/14/2007 3:35:39 PM
only selling it as a package deal or game only until February 08...like a timed exclusive almost
11/14/2007 3:50:52 PM
i pre-ordered last night at gamecrazy.CAN'T WAIT!
11/14/2007 4:48:45 PM
so it looks like they're not interested in making rock band 2, 3, 4, etc like guitar hero does...they're just going to put out DLC weekly for a longgggggggg time...i like that idea rather than purchasing a new game every 4-5 months and being forced to buy newer, better peripherals (going from wired to wireless, etc)
11/14/2007 5:26:49 PM
Good. $6.25 for 3 songs with GH3 is too much. I'd do $1/song, like iTMS.
11/14/2007 5:57:43 PM
shoot... i want to get this for PS2, but i also want to get that downloadable content. my roommate has an xbox 360.decisions, decisions.
11/14/2007 6:17:51 PM
^^^That's incorrect. I was at the same event with Alex (the joystiq guy). They will do sequels, just not as frequently as the GH games. For example, they want to release one where people can play the co-op World tour online rather than just locally. They have a TON of goals for future incarnations. For now they're just focusing on Rock Band, the DLC and future peripherals.[Edited on November 14, 2007 at 8:34 PM. Reason : ^]
11/14/2007 8:34:11 PM
i meant in the near future, i think yearly would almost be too much, i can see another 1, maybe 2 within the next 5 years

Full details of DLC pricing:
11/14/2007 10:38:00 PM
still too fucking espensive
11/14/2007 10:42:20 PM
not if you think about what your getting (same old argument). GH3 for the 360 is $100. With this you get the game, guitar, drums and a mic.
11/14/2007 10:58:29 PM
Metallica Pack"Ride the Lightning"--Metallica"Blackened"--Metallica"And Justice for All"--Metallicasick for week 1, here's the rest
11/14/2007 11:08:14 PM
Wow, I can't believe they require the downloadable songs to play onlinei think that's a bit much
11/15/2007 7:59:02 AM
^^^ i was talking about the DLC
11/15/2007 8:59:32 AM
they're not required i dont think, that wouldnt make sense
11/15/2007 9:49:50 AM
11/15/2007 11:37:37 AM
yes, it is optional
11/15/2007 12:07:40 PM
11/16/2007 12:38:51 AM
is that yours?
11/16/2007 12:51:34 AM
I wish I had more friends that would play this
11/16/2007 7:58:28 AM
nah, just showing big it is compared to gh boxi'm really in it for the drums this time, if they get old and boring like gh can (when you plateau) then that sucks, i dont have any intentions to sing reallywe'll see
11/16/2007 10:15:45 AM
It's bad that I want this for the singing part.I can already play the instruments irl, but my singing is on par with William Hung.
11/16/2007 11:41:00 AM
11/16/2007 11:58:44 AM
I'm plodding through the drum career on easy ...

11/17/2007 11:41:07 AM
wow ... they broke the review release rules on that. supposed to keep that shit embargoed until the 19th.
11/17/2007 2:48:10 PM
After playing just the guitar parts, I gotta say this game feels like the natural progression that the Guitar Hero series should have made after GHII. I really like the new interface, the new star power system (well it's not called star power, but it's the same thing), The do, it yourself guitar solos. I really like most everything about it. The crowd singing along to songs is pretty sweet. This game is pretty awesome.
11/18/2007 7:05:09 PM
I've finished guitar solo tour on medium. I really dig that you can still earn overdrive while overdrive is activated. Potentially, you could have "star power" through most of a song.
11/18/2007 9:59:45 PM
11/19/2007 1:32:49 AM
Kinda. They only happen at the very end of a song and you get a small amount of time to just flail away at the guitar for 5-10 seconds. The more notes you hit the more potential bonus you get. Then after the solo you have to hit the ending note or notes to collect the bonus. Just now I had 4.99 stars(you can see how many stars you have while playing, I love that) going into the end of Vaseline, which has a solo section at the end. I got just enough bonus points in the solo to get the 5th star on the last note of the game. It was quite spectacular.
11/19/2007 1:45:42 AM
If you watch videos of the game, it's the sections where all of the "keys" (frets, drum beats, mic, etc) are lit up, and you can wail away in any way you want
11/19/2007 8:42:35 AM
so how does it determine was notes to play?
11/19/2007 10:03:06 AM
When will the tracks for this week come available? Do you think tonight? If so, I'll have to use my Xbox Live account.
11/19/2007 10:11:19 AM
I can't wait to play this tonight for real
