I really like Sky Blue Sky. I'm not really sure why there's so much hate for that album. "Impossible Germany" is by far my favorite track.[Edited on November 29, 2007 at 8:20 PM. Reason : barfly]

Been checking out some of the albums listed in this thread and have found a winner. Great progressive music with some backbone to it and I love it. The Dear Hunter - Act II: The Meaning Of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading Hadn't heard of the band until this thread, so BIG thanks to whoever mentioned it. I peeped a lot of this other stuff but most of it is way too mellow or repetitive for me, so like someone said earlier...just a little info about the albums you list would help. If it's a snoozer then say so.

wow, if thats your second favorite, can i ask when you started listening to them?
11/30/2007 12:47:53 PM
sonofafor sure its a good one. i had heard of them several times before this thread, but never actually checked them out. For some reason I thought I had and thought I knew kind of what their sound was, and after hearing several people in here talk about em, I realized I was mistaken. They definitely remind me a lot of Mars Volta at times, but I dont mind it since I love TMV and they arent ripping them off despite similarities.
11/30/2007 1:04:52 PM
^^ Sure, mang. I started listening to them when a friend of mine got Lonesome Crowded West when I first started college, but I didn't like it too much. (admittedly, I didn't give it much of a chance, either). Then when The Moon & Antartica came out, I loved that record and went back and listened to This is a long drive... and Lonesome Crowded West again. The Moon & Antartica is still my favorite, but for now, I like the new one the second most. Who knows where I'll rank them this time next year, the M&A will probably always be #1 for me.[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 1:07 PM. Reason : ^'s]

i keep forgetting that circa survive released 'on letting go' this year.and oh yea, what about that new called to arms ep? [Edited on November 30, 2007 at 1:14 PM. Reason : ]

i'm 8 tracks through giving modest mouse's album another shot (after having not listened to it for months). and i'm pretty confident only two songs i've heard so far are decent. the rest seems pretty phoned-in to me.
11/30/2007 1:52:21 PM
Damn, just in the first 8 tracks I think that "Dashboard", "Fire it Up", "Florida", "Parting of the Sensory" and "Missed the Boat" are all outstanding. To each their own, though.
11/30/2007 2:02:36 PM
i'll have to really think about this - theres a ton of great albums this year
11/30/2007 11:51:59 PM
Travis - The Boy With No Namefuck the bullshit; I liked it
12/1/2007 12:41:35 AM
If we wanna do shows, these are the ones I've seen in the second half of the year that absolutely ruled. I wasn't sure what to expect going into a half-reformed smashing pumpkins, but NOTHING rocks harder than that show. In fact, any of these bands are totally, 100% worth a long drive. Also, who else's seen Dinosaur Jr? Have you ever heard anything so loud, ever?ween (baltimore)smashing pumpkins (greensboro)arcade fire w/ LCD soundsystem (columbus, OH... long drive)dinsosaur jr. (lincoln theater)white stripes (george mason u.)
12/1/2007 12:04:13 PM
The White Stripes at House of Blues in Myrtle. And for your consideration ... Sharkey & C Rayz Walz - "Monster Maker"
12/1/2007 1:39:08 PM
^^ saw dinosaur jr on that first tour back at cats cradle with superchunk and magik markers (as many around here probably did). that shit was fun, and loudween is always great live but i'm typically inebriatedthat kevin drew album has got to be in my top 5. that cloud cult record seems like its about 7 years old by now, gonna have to break that back out
12/1/2007 1:47:02 PM
yeah i dont think enough people have listened to the kevin drew albumits really fucking good
12/1/2007 1:48:01 PM
and by really fucking good, you mean really really fucking goodits basically a bss album, without most of the females, and way less attention

12/9/2007 11:26:34 PM
yes - the black kidsi need more than 4 tracks though
12/10/2007 12:33:28 AM
yeah, black kids is awesome. i know it's all pitchfork, but whatever.
12/10/2007 12:57:01 AM
^^^^ it's Boxer by THE National and it's easily the best album of the year.
12/10/2007 7:07:42 AM
^^ Totally.^ MORE LIKE THE BORING AMIRITE?!?!?!?
12/10/2007 8:14:59 AM
i saw the black kids and they were horrible live. kinda ruined the songs i liked.also "boxer" is lame-o. however their singer lives down the street from me and he is quite the good looking guy.no homo
12/10/2007 9:16:35 AM
I thought Boxer was okay, but I liked Neon Bible better which is getting no mention in this thread. While not the best, I think it was definitely noteworthy. Also, Cif82's taste in music is quite similar to mine, which makes it awesome.
12/10/2007 5:21:08 PM
ha, you need to re-read the thread if you think neon bible hasnt been mentioned
12/10/2007 5:28:41 PM
for those that said boxer was boring...what did you think of alligator?
12/10/2007 5:36:28 PM
12/10/2007 5:46:25 PM
i mean GOSH...
12/10/2007 5:52:28 PM
Neon Bible has been getting plenty of attention. Although you do have the problem with early releases such as Neon Bible, Armchair Aprocrypha, and Explosions new one that people do tend to forget about them at the end of the year.
12/10/2007 6:19:29 PM
the Grinderman album came out this year right?I vote for that.
