Save your money folks, 335d coming to the US this fall.BMW 335d3.0 litre TT I6 diesel265 hp425 lb-ft X5 also coming with the same engine.http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-live-reveal-of-bmws-335d-and-x5-xdrive35d/
1/16/2008 6:36:27 AM
historically aren't the 4 doors lighter and stiffer anyway ?
1/16/2008 10:14:25 AM
my penis is usually stiffer
1/16/2008 10:28:45 AM
it's sad, but manual will be history in few years http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107582m-dct apparently will be much faster
1/16/2008 8:23:34 PM
Not with BMW.Their coupes are designed separately from the sedans. They aren't sedans that are cut in half.
1/16/2008 8:40:47 PM
^^why does that mean manual transmissions will be history? Last time I checked consumers aren't buying race cars.Manual transmissions will be around as long as cars are around b/c they're fun to use. Performance isn't the only reason they're popular with enthusiasts. Hence why BMW gave in to offer the M5 with a manual.
1/16/2008 11:07:25 PM
not anytime soon, but you will see a slow extinction of 3 pedals within 10-20 years.example: new R32s are offered only with DSG. no manual option.E60 M5 only has manual tranny for US market, mostly because of strong protest from US buyers. thats only for '08 cars. '07 were only offered with SMG.on run-of-the-mill cars such as accord, civic, VW rabbit/gti manual will soon be a thing of past.
1/16/2008 11:27:11 PM
^I'm well aware of all of that, and its no different than the current trend away from them thats been going on since the 80s.lets not forget about Ferraris, I've heard that the vast majority of them are ordered with the F1 tranny (something I'd never do).
1/16/2008 11:51:32 PM
I'd like to point out that you contradicted your prior statement.
1/17/2008 12:25:30 AM
My statement is that they will not disappear, where did I say they'll disappear?
1/17/2008 1:31:34 PM
I have the SMG in my E46 and absolutely love it...sure I miss the clutch now and then, but the shifting is perfect every single time and at the highest settings is so retardedly fast it's amazing....you still have to drive it like a manual (the auto setting sucks balls on it), you just don't tire your leg out in rush hour traffic
1/17/2008 1:34:40 PM
its called "less driver involvement"
1/18/2008 1:09:39 AM
Oh christ dude shut up alreadyPaddle shifting and clutch shifting aren't entirely dissimilar since you're choosing your gear in both systems. Difference being, one of them forces you to rev match while the other lets you concentrate on other aspects of driving. If you prefer concentrating on clutches instead of everything else (And no, you aren't omniscient so you most definitely are diverging attention from other aspects of your driving), then power to you. However, save your "in my day, we walked to school fifteen miles...in snow....with bears chasing us" line that you drop in every new car thread ever made to yourself.thnx.
1/18/2008 11:35:29 AM
1/18/2008 12:19:40 PM
I like the SMG idea, can shift faster than humans, and rev match perfectly.....not to mention its easier to drive in heavy traffic......but personally i opted for the 6mt in my M...more control
1/18/2008 1:47:08 PM
you idiots and your "knowledge"
1/18/2008 2:47:01 PM
^thats what most cars have that have paddle shifters. You have a standard automatic transmission that has 'sport mode' and in addition to pushing the stick up or down for up shift and down shift you have paddles.Example: new Jetta GLI's
1/18/2008 2:50:29 PM
dsg =/= automatic.
1/18/2008 3:29:49 PM
ha I remember the marketing crap about the Grand Prix paddle shifters

2/11/2008 11:15:29 AM
i think i just made a mess.
2/11/2008 11:25:31 AM
haha, i wonder how much it'll cost to replace the clutch(es) when they come out with the DCT?
2/12/2008 3:13:46 AM
new M3 recorded shortest stopping distance ever tested by edmundshttp://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122055
2/28/2008 9:00:35 PM
But were those the race pads that were swapped in for the track?
2/29/2008 1:51:12 PM
jebus 3650lbs isn't that more than a mustang?
2/29/2008 1:53:44 PM
^^doubt it, but even if they were, stopping distance should be the same. race pads will help with fade, not with distance unless you are stopping from 150mph 5x in a row and then doing testing.[Edited on February 29, 2008 at 6:13 PM. Reason : f]
2/29/2008 6:12:31 PM
^bullshit. a real track pad applies MUCH more braking torque than a street pad, dumbass.i drove a DSG GTi the other day. gotta say, it was pretty damn slick. shifted like a video game and the rev matched downshifts made me giggle.
3/1/2008 7:06:58 AM
actually the characteristics of a race pad are usually just modified for heat.
3/1/2008 7:58:10 AM
^^heh as usual you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. race pads do not reduce stopping distance. even big brake kits reduce stopping distance only marginally.
3/1/2008 12:05:03 PM
stopping pressure is a product of the area of contact between pad and rotor. Pad material has no effect unless its like wood. Racing pads actually have slightly worse stopping characteristics in low temp operation. Slightly. Its after temps rise that what danny said holds true.
3/1/2008 4:28:34 PM
^exactly. i stated two posts ago that race pads will benefit only after they are up to operating temperature aka repeated stops from high speed as would be the case on the track.on street OE pads have much better cold bite.

M3 Coupe marked up $30K by dealer
3/12/2008 8:12:15 AM
What's 100k when you make millions?
3/12/2008 10:17:25 AM
exactly, and whats a $100,000 BMW when you can own a Ferrari for a little bit more (not the same year, but still).its still a bmw.[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 10:34 AM. Reason : 100K. hot damn. but why. ]

3/12/2008 3:54:40 PM
Will the vehicle be worth the MSRP markup 5 years from now?
3/12/2008 5:21:26 PM
Yea but why does the dealership care about that?
3/12/2008 8:39:38 PM
Here in CT they have two new M3s in BMW dealership. Jerez black E90 and interlagos blue E92. Both are being sold at MSRP. Gorgeous cars.
3/12/2008 8:48:34 PM
They are selling them at my dealer for MSRP.......
3/12/2008 8:59:15 PM

3/12/2008 9:52:06 PM
I know some of you fools on here have money..........we have a Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 we got on a trade in for a E92 M3. Its a 01 or 02, SMG, and well documented service wise. Something like 70,000 miles. It has the 18" stockers........painted flat black, with a Phoenix Yellow lip......Someone needs to pick it up.......I think they are asking mid/low 20's......
