My losses today aren't bad at all in comparison to market performance. Most of my big winners were called away on Friday and are dropping today so I'm making out pretty well.

TRID up 5.5% today in advance of tomorrows earnings report.

Ah, i didn't think of that, this makes sense. I guess they won't need a whole lot of highly technical folks, just people who are technical enough to be eyes and ears, while the higher level folks can manage it remotely.
1/23/2007 11:14:55 AM
why would a stock produce a 2-3% drop after a quarterly earnings announcement that exceeded expectations and included an 8% increas in sales?
1/23/2007 11:31:24 AM
That always seems to happen although I can't recall the reason. I think it was addressed at the tail end of the 2006 thread.
1/23/2007 11:32:56 AM
^^ profit taking, and forward expectations are the usual culprits. what stock?

http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/070123/dupont_results.html?.v=6Profit's up, but US sales took a hit from the housing crash. I think it's just overreaction to noise. Foreign sales should continue to ramp up, and US sales may continue to decline to a point, but that should level off this year unless the bottom falls out of housing again, which is unlikely.

thanks bobby

haha, I was shocked that the last part of the article was not the part where the peddle one of their paid services. but good read.BTW, the CAPS thing that the article links to is new to me. Looks very very cool. At a quick glance it seems like a community based stock rating/discussion thing. Sort of like this thread on a more organized and larger scale. and it looks to be free.]]
1/23/2007 1:57:09 PM
Yeah, that pissed me off too.
1/23/2007 1:58:32 PM
seems i sold XLE and ILF too early
1/23/2007 2:52:48 PM
^^^^dug around a bit on those. YMI has quite a bit of development risk (albeit with potential for upside if trials pass), and NBIX has quite a bit of commercial risk (and i couldn't see in the near term any other real catalysts for upside)the Chinese one -- your guess is as good as mine;and the others are not too bad. kind of liking VIAC.
1/23/2007 3:31:21 PM
1/23/2007 3:40:37 PM
actually, VIAC has considerable development risk too, but i bought some any way.also looking at GPRO

Sunny days ahead for SUNW? http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070123/earns_sun_microsystems.html?.v=13
1/24/2007 9:02:45 AM

1/24/2007 9:46:14 AM
SUNW +8% right now.
1/24/2007 10:06:39 AM
STX is up a nice bit.
1/24/2007 10:25:12 AM
ah, another reminder of my impatience.
1/24/2007 10:34:30 AM
Did you get out of STX? I can't remember...
1/24/2007 10:49:44 AM
Note to self:When you want to BUY stock, make sure the "BUY" option is selected, instead of "SELL".Just sold some DALRQ for a nice loss instead of buying because I was stupid and hit sell instead. *shoots self in the foot* [Edited on January 24, 2007 at 10:53 AM. Reason : ]
1/24/2007 10:53:04 AM
^^ yeah, bought at $22, held for a few months, and got tired of it being flat, and sold for a few pennies of profit.A week later it started moving. thinking of picking up some SUNW for the long haul. Seems like the new CEO has really turned the company around.
1/24/2007 11:13:24 AM
GOOG and STX are both on a nice roll today.
1/24/2007 12:37:17 PM
Today is the moment of truth for TRID.I definitely have too much emotional attachment to this stock at this point, because i'm all nervous about today's results. Will it report what I expect to be stellar numbers and take off? Will they report below expectations and tank?I should probably get out of it. being an emotional investor is usually a recipe for disaster. ----New stock on the radar: KOMAG INC (KOMG)another hard disk play, they make the thin film media that are used in disk drives. Seagate, WD, Samsung and Hitachi are all customers. More on it when i have some time to research it in greater depth.]]

CSCO is up a bit more today after dropping ~ 6% recently - earnings report is out around fed 6th i believe. now seems like a good time to buy, but i know that earnings report is not supposed to be extremely great. however, their last earnings report was amazing. maybe buy a bit now and a bit after the earnings report if it drops even more...and what about XHB (homebuilders SPDR) - seems like a good value playboth of these being ~ 1 yr play or greateropinions?
1/24/2007 1:05:08 PM
^^ I owned KOMG for a bit a year or two ago and it performed well for me.
1/24/2007 1:45:17 PM
Days like today, I enjoy my 'tech' account--up 3.5% today vs. my 'blue-chip' account, which is up 0.3% as of a few moments ago. Then again there are many days when it's the other way around...
1/24/2007 2:44:43 PM
KOMG's P/E is hovering around 8 right now...not too bad.
1/24/2007 2:45:35 PM
I just realized that VWO is up 25% since i first bought in 6 months ago

1/24/2007 4:19:18 PM
Stock is up a bit after hours, but apparently they fell a bit short of Wall St.'s expectations...
1/24/2007 6:21:23 PM
Hmm I'm double-posting a lot today, I suppose that happens while I'm doing research.Goldman-Sachs was up a nice bit today. Check out their EPS and P/E. EPS of almost $20/share, PE of 11. [Edited on January 24, 2007 at 7:02 PM. Reason : ]

1/25/2007 2:43:53 PM
Toyota (TM) down more than $4 so far today
1/25/2007 3:03:41 PM
Disappointed that GOOG dropped again after yesterday, but I'm extra happy about TRID.
1/25/2007 4:19:21 PM
Hopefully TRID isn't on a slide again, after yesterday's rally. edit: Since TRID is up again, I'd only be down a total of ~2% if I sold it now. I'm considering selling my TRID sometime today and getting into GOOG before their earnings report on Tuesday. Thoughts?[Edited on January 26, 2007 at 10:56 AM. Reason : ]

1/26/2007 10:54:35 AM
Alright I've got an order out for 200 shares of TRID at $21.50.I'll see if anyone bites. Most likely no...after a bit if no one buys it I suppose I'll lower it.

ok100 trading hours have passedi will post my 2007 picks soon
1/26/2007 11:24:14 AM
Looks like it didn't quite hit the stop loss, so i'm still in. I'm thinking of buying back in to TRID with what I sold yesterday. I think the stocks still got more legs. For example, sales are up 73% (meaning earnings are up at least the same if margins are more or less the same). We also finally have clarity on the degree of impact from the options hit: $50M. Not sure how that will play out (for example, it could lower last year's earnings and make the earnings growth even higher!). But there seems to be a collective sigh of relief - more visibility means less risk.Another interesting point is that the last quarter's sales were flat with the previous quarter's. That is actually great news: chip sales are very seasonal. For TVs to get sold in November/December, they must be built by September/October. In which case, TRID's chips are bought August/Sept. So the boom time for chip vendors typically precedes the holiday season. Most chip companies sag by as much as 15% following this seasonal boom. Not TRID: they maintained sales. For TRID to have a strong quarter following that quarter is indicative of strong demand. They went cautious this coming quarter - and that could mean that vendors pulled in orders to ship TVs faster (i.e. New Year's and Superbowl related sales). But the bottom line is that TRID is a strong company and (imo) a takeover target.
1/26/2007 11:44:17 AM
Too late...I had a limit order for $20.25 and sold all 200 shares...
