why would u want to swap a LA motor into a magnum based truck,seems like a decent amount of work. maybe a LA 318/360 with magnum heads(easy and i guess those blocks etc would be slightly cheaper) but not converting to a carbd engine

i already listed any possible advantages. personally, it wouldn't be worth it to me but for some people it is i guess. it's not a hard swap at all though, dead simple actually considering you can ditch all the FI stuff.

the magnum heads aren't anything real special. there is really very little difference in the magnum and LA blocks, i think it's just the name and more limited availability that makes the magnum motors a little more exspensive to build if you stick with magnum style heads and intake.

you can use LA heads on a magnum block though, the oil passages are there.

yea im pretty sure mopar performance sells whats needed for the swap(push rods with oil holes and the head gasket) but why ditch FI for a carb when a magnum r/t heads can pull great numbers and can be had fairly cheap new.

i got a set of LA "j" head and a set of earlier "x" heads if anyone wants a set tho...will sell cheap since i bought eddys

i agree. you have to also keep in mind though that the magnum motor wasn't supported very much by the aftermarket or by mopar performance until the past 2-3 years. sure, there were the bolt ons and mild cams, etc. but if you wanted to make real hp you had to turn to exspensive custom stuff. it was easier/cheaper for those people to turn to the LA parts and carbs. it's still not cheap to retain the factory style mpfi setup when you go above a certain point, but it's alot better than it used to be.

what do you have? i've got a 73 duster w/ a 70 340/4 speed. it's about to undergo another motor build.

^^lol... yeah, pirate can be quite addicting with all the build threads. even if rockcrawling isn't your thing, there is some pretty damn cool stuff being built. some of the fabrication, craftsmanship etc. is amazing. especially the people turning stuff out of their garage with basic tools.

wow i also have a 73 Duster 340/727 that will eventually be a bracket car. spent some of the break installing the cam and trying to install the eddy heads till i realized that i had to special order 2 more arp studs because of the way the heads were cast.
