Stein:

1. the game catalog leaves a lot to be desired at this point, you are correct.
2. homebrew Linux, yeah sure, some really good things are going to come out of that.
3. terrible backwards compatibility? Is that what you read on the internets? Cuz every single one of my old PS2 games plays without a hitch.
4. I'm pretty dissapointed that upconversion for DVDs wasn't included out of the box, but it IS coming.

For my $600 I got a Blu-Ray player (worth more than the $600 I paid by itself), and (with a little work) a full-fledged HTPC. Oh, and it plays games too.

What was your point again?

See your argument is going to revolve around trying to claim that its a steal because it has a Blu Ray player when there's really no Blu Ray movie worth buying or wanting and when comparisons to movies hot in both HD and Blu ray show HDDVD being better. The console market value right now is about where the 360 is priced, possibly lower.

One thing you didn't mention: Cell. It is unique and has lots of potential as a processor. I know because I've used it before.
