when would we hear if other coaches are going to be let go/resign? what about fowler...when does that normally happen (if it is going to)
11/27/2006 1:14:57 PM
we hired a consulting firm. If everything goes correctly, we shouldn't know much of anything until its definate
11/27/2006 1:16:08 PM
I think that is going to depend on if the search lasts longer then expected then you will see Fowler come out and say we will keep X and Y to help maintain momentum in recruiting or something like that.
11/27/2006 1:16:22 PM
sources tell me were keeping Cignetti (recruiting coordinator/TE coach) and stroud (DL coach) around for the transition period
11/27/2006 1:17:54 PM
thats what most people seem to think since those guys are the most competent
11/27/2006 1:19:08 PM
traditionally a coach or two are kept, usually the ones with the longest tenure or most connected to the recruiting. The quicker we find a coach the better.
11/27/2006 1:21:44 PM
Is Dick Portee still here?
11/27/2006 1:22:31 PM
ive heard we're keeping portee around as well. seems to me like portee is the "larry harris" of the football staff.
11/27/2006 1:27:01 PM
can't say I've seen a lot of development with our RBs to want to keep Portee
11/27/2006 1:27:45 PM
We need to keep Dixon
11/27/2006 1:27:58 PM
I don't know guys, but I think the possibility for getting Bill Cowher is better than you guys think it is...Untill we hear a firm answer from him regarding the coaching job, I'd put my money on either him or Chow...(just an opinion)
11/27/2006 1:28:47 PM
About Jimbo Fisher:Is there anything about this guy that tells us he won't just be another Amato? Do we know anything about his ability to discipline a team? That was Amato's main shortcoming. Sure, he's a good assistant at a good school, but so was Amato. It's time for a new direction. We need to hire an experienced head coach from another school who has a reputation of having well-disciplined teams that win.
11/27/2006 1:29:09 PM
11/27/2006 1:31:11 PM
Amato was never really a specific coordinator he was a head Asst, ie great recruiter and LB coach.Fisher's resume is impressive enough and if you read the LSU fan boards they dont want to lose him, he's an offensive mind and a great recruitername is being mentioned with Miami, and Cincy as well. I think we can find success with an assistant.
11/27/2006 1:33:02 PM
^^haha yea thats true too.[Edited on November 27, 2006 at 1:33 PM. Reason : ^^]

sounds like Chow would rather be at ASU I would love to have him as an OC, and am curious about his abilities as a head coach. could he just be a real smart guy who might be lacking in other head coach areas such as recruiting, discipline etc? and i always thought of cower as a pipe dream but it seems like the [thin] possibility is actually there.
11/27/2006 1:40:01 PM
im really liking the possibility of fisher the more I read about him.
11/27/2006 1:45:57 PM
Chow is sixty-eleventy years old and unproven as a head coach. About the time he learns what's going on, he'll already have 3 heart attacks. Great coordinator, but IMO the risk/reward thing on him just isn't worth it
11/27/2006 1:50:30 PM
^ he was a head coach at BYU for two years. he has proven he can run the ship. he just hates TEAM recruiting but loves offensive recruiting and development
11/27/2006 1:51:40 PM
two players told me they are meeting at 4pm with fowler. i dont know what the hell you're talking about, but believe what you want.
11/27/2006 1:58:10 PM
i can't take this anymore....2 of these in less than a year is too much for my heartthat said..go pack
11/27/2006 1:59:59 PM
the meeting isnt to discuss coaching candidates its for the administration to tell them their schollys are secure and go over different protocol with them as to their practicing, scholarships and even transfer ability. Its something that always happens and happened with Herb the day after he left...just simple AD work really.
11/27/2006 2:02:59 PM
yeah, i don't think players get to decide who the coach is anyways...this isn't chapel hill.
11/27/2006 2:05:26 PM
bill cowher
11/27/2006 2:19:11 PM
Does anyone know if we hired the Ninez guy that is the middle man for all these coaching searches? This guy was paid $35,000 by UNC to make a phone call to Butch Davis and he has been hired by Alabama and ASU now.
11/27/2006 3:06:26 PM
Trestman better be gone too.... any news on him?
11/27/2006 3:12:53 PM
i've never been sold on this whole cowher thing, but the more and more i read/hear, the more i want to grab that glass of koolaid and drink it. i still wont be sold until he actually comes here (its still the biggest IF ever), but still......this is from 850 the buzz's blog:http://www.850thebuzz.com/blog/?p=2046#more-2046

as i've posted before, my boss is a big nc state donor and this morning i asked him what he thought about the situation. he wanted chuck to stay and thought he would rebound with the young team we had and wasn't wild about paying off 3 years of his contract. he met with one of the top 10 wolfpack club donors and here is what that guy said last week:"you heard it here first, the top 5 wolfpack club donors met and are willing to pay off amato's remaining salary to bring in cowher and he will be here within a month"i'm skeptical, but this is coming from a reliable source who is close friends with amato and fowler. personally, i want shula ...but it looks like there is actually some traction behind the cowher ideas.[Edited on November 27, 2006 at 3:43 PM. Some dude on SportsCenter just said Cowher's done at Pittsburgh but will not be at State. More than likely, he'll take a couple years off then return to the NFL.
11/27/2006 3:50:27 PM
John Clayton just totally shot down Cowher going to State, said it flat out would not happen, no college could begin to offer him what the Steelers would, he is just going to relax for a few years then come back somewhere else in the NFL...(Panthers?)^ some dude??? come on man, how do you not know The Professor?[Edited on November 27, 2006 at 3:51 PM. I hardly know any sportscasters. I know the game, not the people who report it. But word, I'm not the only one who saw it.

11/27/2006 3:54:15 PM
ive heard this more than once now and im starting to beleive it's true, RJ Couchon will be the next head coach. Give it a week and you will see
11/27/2006 4:10:15 PM

11/27/2006 4:12:16 PM

I don't think this RJ guy you speak of is practical at all....NC State will not hire a nobody after Amato...Tryin' to move up, not down..
11/27/2006 4:20:26 PM
Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention - Intervention Research & Support ...First google resuld for Couchon
11/27/2006 4:20:28 PM
Lee Fowler said the search would be national, not international
11/27/2006 4:21:32 PM
Yeah, and I checked all NFL Europe staffs, no RJ
11/27/2006 4:23:48 PM
lets think of all the cool slogans or chants we could come up with if the coaches name was Couchon
11/27/2006 4:25:04 PM
^[no]
11/27/2006 4:25:52 PM
^i said cool. you arent cool and neither is the word no
11/27/2006 4:26:40 PM
Ive heard of him. RJ is suppose to be a pretty good coach. He took some crappy european team and made them better. They almost won the championship last year or something.
