Julius was the #1 player in America out of H.S. (Well, #5 overall, but the top 4 went to the NBA)

That class was also ranked around 2-5 in the country (Depending on where you look)

scooter was the year before hodge

also simmons and brackman were 5 star players and grant was a 4 star, that class is better than this one (hickson 5 stars, smith 4 stars, thomas 3 stars)

not trying to downplay this recruit, its awesome, and even better that its happening so quick for lowe, it took sendeck 4 years or so to get a 5 star recruit

but its not better than any of his classes

Scooter was not in Hodge's class. It was:
da Jules of Harlem
Levi Watkins
Jordan Collins
Josh Powell
Ilian Evtimov

IIRC, Herb's highest rated recruits were Damien Wilkins, Hodge, and Scooter.

simmons was a 4star. brack and grant were 3 stars.

last year was his best class. fells was a 5star. mccauley and costner were 4 stars.

grant and fells are sgs.

[Edited on November 13, 2006 at 2:50 PM. Reason : in 2001 we had the #12 recruiting class]

i agree its a great pickup, but lets be fair here. nc state was nothing when herb took over. lowe is able to recruit off 5 ncaa tournament appearances in a row. herb didnt have shit to recruit with when he first started.

its like comparing apples and oranges.

^^^^Hey...recruiting rankings mean nothing. It's all about how well you can develop them and utilize them.

I think NC State will always recruit well based on facilities/history/conference alone.

What's going to be interesting is to see how "the other guy" recruits without Harris.... by far his best recruiter. He was a helluva recruiter, but most of the top guys we landed were becuase of Harris. That guy is amazing.

Like everyone said... hats off to Lowe and staff. I expected this class to be much worse considering everyone else had a 3 month head start on us (maybe even a few years considering coaches start recruiting Juniors)

very true, not trying to downplay herb either, just saying that its good we wont have a lull in talent

and i was wrong, brackman was a 4 star (simmons was a 5 star and grant was a 4 star)

Kwame Brown was #1 overall. The other top 3-4 also went to the NBA. (I'm pretty sure I've got the right year on that one..Kwame Brown's class?)

I just remember per most recruiting services , Julius was the #1 player to attend college. He was like #5 or 6 overall

Look, you clown fuckers have been arguing the overall class ranking for a page now. Who gives a fuck, willis? We saw how well Herbivore developed players. Wait and see what Lowe can do before you blow your load. Idiots.

all wrong, according to scout:
simmons - 5 star
brackman - 4 star
grant - 4 star
fells - 4 star
costner - 5 star
mccauley - 4 star

im pretty sure herb was doing pretty well...

go back and look at who he wanted in 2002: gilchrist, pittsnogle, boggan (transferred to ok state)...

the list goes on and on. read up...

Im just going to quote myself for superchevy since he obviously is an idiot or has a bad memory and all of the others who continue to hate on Herb after he left.

Lowe is off to a flying start here recruiting wise, definitely. I wish he hung on to Chris Wright, but what can you do?

Since people decided once again to bring it up for some reason, Herb's class is Top 15, so obviously he is doing well too.

** Second most wins since 2001 in the ACC is nothing to scoff at. Hopefully Lowe can take over the solid foundation and put us over the top..

Damn I wish these boys could start playing right now just to have some one else sitting on the bench. No really, there's not enough people to fill up the bench.

how many ACC championship games did we go to
2nd place ACC Reg. season finish a few years ago
5 straight trips to the NCAA post season

i would say so
i grew up watching Jimmy V
attended NCSU during the Les Robinson Era
and really appreciated what Coach Sendek did for our program

Herb's gone folks.

He did a solid job here. I wouldn't call us an ACC 'power', but we were a solid program and he built us back at least to that.

Time to move on

yay! once in 10 years. what a power! also the only team that year in the acc to be swept by a horrible heels team (by their usual output).

Quote :
"5 straight trips to the NCAA post season"

4 prompt exits, and 1 decent run.

i appreciate what he did for the program too, but were certainly weren't a "power".

how the hell did this turn into a Herb thread

I just hope this kid can somehow someway call up Mayo and be like listen kid, come run with me...

but this is a hell of a class coming in, amazing what Sid has done in this short amount of time, really it is...finally something to brag about.

Ferguson is really a SG, not a PG...thats what he would rather play so we are set there.
