Why did #48 North Meck drop out when they lost to #2 Shelby by only 7 pts? They actually led up to the fourth quarter and then lost on 2 turnovers.
10/2/2006 11:37:06 AM
North Meck made a good showing...their rating didn't change much. Some other teams just jumped over them based on nig wins. We are talking about 360+ teams, so it's tough to stay in the top 50.
10/2/2006 12:13:55 PM
damn, Clayton High is trash this year...
10/4/2006 3:54:29 PM
Yep, it's been a tough year for Coach Fowler and the Comets. The good news is that there are 4 weak teams in that conference, so they still may win a game. Their best shot is Oct. 28 at West Johnston. One local game overshadows all of the other ones this week...#44 SE Raleigh (5-2, 2-0) at #49 Garner (6-1, 2-0) -- Having already defeated East Wake last week, SER can pretty much lock up the Greater Neuse conference title if they beat the TrojansWakefield (5-2, 0-2) at Leesville Road (5-1, 2-0) -- Wakefield tries to bounce back after back-to-back upset losses, while greatly improved Leesville is looking for the Cap-7 championshipBroughton (4-3, 1-1) at Wake Forest-Rolesville (3-3, 1-0) -- Also in the Cap-7Athens Drive (6-1, 1-1) at Apex (4-2, 1-0) -- A 2nd loss would knock AD out of the Tri-7 title pictureThe top games around the state...#16 Scotland Co. East Lincoln 7Cherryville 21This may be the most shocking result of the season in this region. East was coming off of 2 huge emotional wins over North Lincoln and Linconton. This was the ultimate trap game, which came against a team that had an extra week to prepare due to their bye week. Hopefully, this isn't a sign of things to come.
10/9/2006 12:36:38 AM
^ That was a big surprise...I had East Lincoln favored by 20.
10/9/2006 10:25:01 AM
I'd hate to be at East Lincoln's practice this week. Coach Byus is probably putting those kids through the ringer.

Leesville has joined Fuquay-Varina (2005) and Athens Drive (2006) as local schools who have turned around their programs almost overnight. The Pride should win the Cap-7 title and get a couple of home playoff games.

Eastern Randolph 10Asheboro 12I went to this game since I was in town. Asheboro converted several 3-longs and a key 4-17 to score the winning TD. Their kicker missed BOTH extra points and had a FG blocked. The ER offense was crap all night minus their first position to go up 7-6, and didn't convert a key 4th and goal from the 1 and lost a golden opportunity to score. After going up 10-6, ER played Martyball until Asheboro went up in the 4th quarter 12-10. ER made it to the Asheboro 25 with less than a minute to go and let themselves lose 13 yards, then incompleted on 3rd and 4th down to lose when they could have just done safe running plays at 1-10 @ Asheboro 25 to seal the game winning FG. A very defensive game with a terrible effort from the Wildcats. They usually wait to choke in the playoffs, but Christmas came early for the Cats this year.

How in the hell did Wilmington Hoggard drop to #15 in these rankings? Could possibly end up being 4A East Champs...and they WANT independence... [Edited on October 16, 2006 at 1:48 PM. Reason : .]
10/16/2006 1:47:39 PM
^ The highest Hoggard has been all year is #12. If they had a tougher schedule, they would be ranked higher. They've only played two top-100 teams; the only school in the top 15 who has played fewer is Thomasville, who has won 29 consecutive games (including two state championships).
