the lyrics for troublemaker just kill it for me... i can't listen to that bullshit and take it seriously.. "everybody get dangerous" sounds like a bad RHCP song.. "greatest man" is just horrible.. i don't know. i just hate every song on here.. i at least gave Make Believe a few listens when it leaked.. i was pretty into "peace" and "haunt you everyday" when they leaked. i hate all of these new songs, and i don't even feel like i need to listen to them ever again

Why did Matt Sharp leave the band in the first place?
5/27/2008 11:13:29 PM
Incredible foresight
5/27/2008 11:21:18 PM
^ loli was going to say "rivers wanted to start sucking and matt didn't"
5/27/2008 11:24:45 PM
The reason Pinkerton was so great was it literally sounded like the band got drunk off their ass, stumbled into a recording studio, and somehow managed to strike gold. Trying to recapture that is impossible.Having said that, I'm digging the old-school Weezer guitar muff on "Pork and Beans." Also, "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived" is like 10 songs in one, and all of them are pretty good. Still, while I know that Rivers' lyrics are tongue-in-cheek for the most part, they're incredibly unclever and bordering on idiotic.Oh well, I'll always have Pinkerton.
5/27/2008 11:50:09 PM
^^^, ^^ Seriously, anyone know?
5/28/2008 12:11:17 PM
I don't think much has ever been said about it, other than he and Rivers weren't getting along very well.
5/28/2008 2:34:19 PM
So what about the rest of the Red album. Is it worth buying?
5/28/2008 7:07:06 PM
To the best of my knowledge, Matt left to focus on the Rentals while Weezer was on hiatus in the late 90s while Rivers was at Harvard. When Weezer got back together, Matt was rather disillusioned with the music industry as a whole and decided not to take part.
5/28/2008 9:49:34 PM
Listen to the Songs From the Black Hole recordings. Then listen to The Rentals.Rivers worked his ass off on Songs From the Black Hole, then Matt then lifted the entire sound for his own band. Rivers then as a result scrapped Black Hole. There's a lot more to it than that, but I think that was the biggest factor in the fallout.
5/29/2008 11:14:42 PM
I don't think Matt "lifted" the SFTBH sound. Return of the Rentals was released as SFTBH was being recorded and had presumably been in the works for a while.
5/29/2008 11:18:48 PM
Well, lifted or not, he beat him to the punch in releasing an album with the same sound and very similar concept; Rivers himself alluded to this as the reason why he abandoned SFtBH. Also, Rivers was a total douche up until fairly recently I guess. He used to actually fine band members for being out of tune and things like that at concerts. I think Matt got fed up with that kind of nonsense.[Edited on May 29, 2008 at 11:24 PM. Reason : .]
5/29/2008 11:23:22 PM
woops
5/29/2008 11:24:20 PM
i was in that chat room when he said thatthat was when Rivers was posting on the "RCB board" and members of the board got free tickets to shows on that tour. i couldn't go though, it was in Atlantahard to believe i liked a band so much that is so terrible now
5/30/2008 12:33:44 AM
Deluxe tracks (m4a format...)Miss Sweeney: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7BGR0PDPPig: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WSCDCHHKThe Spider: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D7FJ0E0BKing: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BO5PJXG0lol Miss Sweeney rules I don't care what anyone says. I think I can probably piece together my own 10 song tracklist now that will be listenable from beginning to end.Pig is pretty similar to the demo but with added vocals and instruments. Still like this song.Spider on the other hand... good thing this was left offKing redeems Scott as a lead singer, but is still a poor song. I'll replace Heart Songs and Cold Dark World with Miss Sweeney and Pig[Edited on May 31, 2008 at 9:47 AM. Reason : .]

5/31/2008 10:15:30 AM
plus Rivers wrote/recorded SFTBH in germany i think, i don't think Matt was even around for that process
5/31/2008 11:01:16 AM
So allow me to ask again....Is the Red album going to be worth buying?
5/31/2008 8:36:30 PM
definitely, definitely notalso, i am listening to "are friends electric" which is the b-side on the Pork and Beans 7 inch. i think it's a Brian Bell song. it's terrible
5/31/2008 9:14:41 PM
I will be buying it, but I am also the only person on this entire forum who enjoys it, so you probably shouldn't listen to me. Surely I can find someone on here who at least likes Miss Sweeney and Pig. Surely.
6/1/2008 1:02:37 AM
I enjoy it.
6/1/2008 1:04:49 PM
After a bit more inspection, I can listen to the first six songs straight through and enjoy all of them. After that my enjoyment drops a bit.
6/1/2008 11:37:51 PM
Pitchfork's review of the red album was pretty spot on, but the 4.7 they gave it is way too highthis review is pretty accurate too http://www.tinymixtapes.com/Weezer,6341
6/2/2008 8:18:23 PM
better than the review of their last weezer albumi think they gave it a 0.4
6/2/2008 8:20:01 PM
Pretty good review IMO. Obviously I would have given it a higher rating since I enjoy it; probably around a 6 or so, but bump it to a 7 or 7.5 if I can sub in Miss Sweeney and Pig.The only things I really disagree with them on is their dislike of Dreamin' and The Angel and the One.
6/2/2008 8:20:14 PM
i don't understand the love (or even mild appreciation) for "Troublemaker." the lyrics are really really bad, the chorus is weak (and cheesy).. it sounds like a band trying to write a catchy power pop song and failing. just a really bland song. i'd give it a .3 out of 10. i do like "pork & beans" though, and parts of "TGMTEL" but that's it"marrying a beotch, having 7 keods"... seriously?
6/2/2008 8:48:16 PM
haha see I love that partI have no shame anymore
6/2/2008 9:04:04 PM
gay gay gay
6/2/2008 10:50:24 PM
how the fuck can somebody go from righting really poignant lyrics on the blue album to this?
6/3/2008 9:21:35 AM
so they went from righting to wronging the lyrics?]
