9/29/2006 10:20:29 AM
Yeah, that would have been me.I'm over the original $700 budget, but we all knew that wasn't realistic. I probably came in around $12-1300.
9/29/2006 11:21:29 AM
1300's not bad.. did you paint the wheels on your gti?[Edited on October 2, 2006 at 10:50 AM. Reason : btw, i'm driving a crappy red mk2 jetta now.]

I've still got my VE sitting at home waiting on some attention. Can I just drop it off at your place for a random amount of time? Its been sitting next to the garage for about three years now just waiting on me to put in the new transmission, axles, and clutch.. I'm a lazy bastardDo you remember if the VE manual trans can mount to the VG at all? Cause we need to get you changing gears and take some stress off of that auto. I've got my old LSD VE trans that needs to be rebuilt.I doubt you ever met mine and Brandon's friend Aaron, but he just moved back to NC this year and made a few upgrades to his auto trans with good results. http://www.iwdwebdesign.com/maxima/index.html
10/4/2006 10:43:14 PM
They should mate up fine. I'm fairly sure the VE and the VG share the same block.
10/5/2006 12:21:43 AM
Yes, you want to read this.Well, the maxima was running solidly with 6psi of boost. It was wonderfull, and quite exciting. Especially because I was test driving withough a seat. I was sitting on a small tool box, because I am waiting for my seat brackets to arrive. Then, I decided to put in my *Frebie* fuel injectors for good measure and make sure I never run lean.Insues the insanity.- First, put in 6 new injectors. When I tried to start the car, it hydrolocked. I thought it was because of the carb cleaner I had sprayed. Pulled all the plugs and turned it over. It then blew fuel out of the plug holes like a supersoaker. This in turn soaked my hood, bottom half of my windshield, and engine bay, as well as the motorcycle in front of my car. I immediately grabbed some towels and wiped the bike off and gave it a quick detail. I then threw the towels over the plug holes to keep the fuel from spraying everywhere. Well, the fuel had enough force to blow through the towels when the car was turned over.- Then the unforeseable happened. A spark.- The entire windshield, hood, and engine bay went up in flames. One freind ran inside and grabbed the fire extinguisher. I made the choice to go in the flame and throw the two burning towels off of the engine. That turned out to be a good decision. Then I use the extinguisher and put out the fire. - The fire out, I surveyed the damage. Nothing immediately visible. Wires and lines look good. I looked in a plug hole, and you can see the gas filling up the cylinder. Also, I cannot keep pressure in the fuel line (I have an inline pressure guage). Apparently two of the injectors are stuck open.-So, now I am ordering new injectors, even though expensive, so this won't happen again.Any questions?[Edited on October 29, 2006 at 10:13 PM. Reason : pics]
10/29/2006 9:53:52 PM
That really sucks. Sorry man.-------------------------------I think this is also why service manuals say to pull the fuel pump fuse and turn the engine over to drain the lines before pulling off high pressure fuel lines. I never bothered in the past, but I have been soaked by fuel.[Edited on October 29, 2006 at 10:25 PM. Reason : .]
10/29/2006 10:21:52 PM
This isn't related to that. The fire started because of trying to start the car, and clear the cylinders. This wasn't during the insall, this was after. Everything was back together.
10/29/2006 10:30:37 PM
Yea, I know, just saying, spraying fuel is a bad thing any time.
10/29/2006 10:46:25 PM
make a vid of the car running b4 u blow it up.
10/29/2006 11:25:33 PM
The funny part is, is that I had it running, went inside to get my camera, and the batteries were dead. I then said screw it, I'll get video later.
10/29/2006 11:40:16 PM
if you sprayed my vehicle with fuel while fucking up your own shitty car i would burn it FOR you.
10/29/2006 11:46:54 PM
yea well. when i redid the entire fuel system on a car, before i let my friend try to start it i dragged all three fire extinguishers out of the garage, strategically positioned two & held the third in my hands.
10/29/2006 11:52:50 PM
Hey optmusprimer, in my defense, his bike is illegally parked infront of my car in a single spot. His fault, not mine. And yes, my car was there first.[Edited on October 29, 2006 at 11:56 PM. Reason : .][Edited on October 29, 2006 at 11:56 PM. Reason : can't type at all]

legally speaking, dont you live in an apartment complex? they allow this type of vehicle modification on the premises?
10/30/2006 12:08:13 AM
Yeah, they do, I'm not destroying any of thier property, and it is all in my vehicle. The major work was all done elsewhere. The injectors were the first thing that required me taking anything really apart.Oh yeah, Told you so.... I had it running just like everyone said would never happen. Then look what I went and did.[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 12:12 AM. Reason : .]

daryl cool projects are cool when you have something cool about it. not cool- its a maxima- its unsafe- you dont know what youre doingrecipe for disaster.if you could focus your little bit of skills and your overactive creativity into something that would yeild a worthwhile result, then i could respect it. but i dont. just not my thing, but dont let me stop you.

but this project is failed before it started, no matter if he finishes. i can watch spiderman and batman and take my shitty pajamas and make myself a tigerman costume, but just completing the project dosent make it worthwhile. (or make me a real superhero)daryl the first money you spend should have been on this book and a rwd donor car.http://www.amazon.com/Build-Your-Sports-Little-%C2%A3250/dp/1859606369/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-0071966-1119955[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 11:22 PM. I'm impressed at the time and work put into a car like that. Didn't have time to read everything, but why did you do all of this? I just wanted to see all the pretty pictures!
10/30/2006 11:44:55 PM
^^ Yah, if he was interested in racing, or had a garage, or had the time to build an entire frame like that book suggests. I doubt he's put anywhere near as much time into that Maxima as you would have to put into one of those kit Sevens.Plus, if you're going that route, you'd want to go to http://www.cheapsportscar.net/index.php since the book you mentioned focuses mainly on frame fabrication and uses lots of parts from cars that are common in the U.K. but expensive here, like MGs. The book from Keith at Flyin' Miata uses a Miata donor for the engine and drivetrain.I don't see why you have such a big problem with him, Optmus. Most of us are amused by his nearly-killing-himself antics, lol.
