27 at launch? I remember hearing 27 playable games on the E3 floor tomorrow, but I didn't hear the launch number.
5/9/2006 4:48:14 PM
m$ will do better than many of you think... $'s a big reason why.ps3 looks awesome, especially graphics, but who wants to pay, and they're clearly just copying what nintendo and m$ are doing... kinna takes the allure of originality out of iti'm lookin forward to the Wii, but I'd like to see normal controls as well as the sensor-based controls, because every now and then i want to be a lazy couch potato and just move some thumbs

5/9/2006 5:01:10 PM
^have you been paying any attention?look at sony's controller.Heres a list of things nintendo did first, and Sony copied;analog rumblewireless motion-sensing
5/9/2006 5:09:10 PM
c'mon now. lets not pretend wireless was all that original and/or nintendo's idea first.
5/9/2006 5:16:12 PM
thank you josh.
5/9/2006 5:18:07 PM
^^ok, then the other thee major innovations
5/9/2006 5:19:00 PM
I'm pretty sure that Nintendo was the first to have trigger buttons too.
5/9/2006 5:23:06 PM
WAIT< where was smash bros?????????????what about all the online multiplayer shit....those fuckers better have more then a passing word by launch time[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 5:23 PM. Reason : 4]

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/events/e32006/articles/halo3.htmYES! I was hoping they'd have something and sure enough, they throw out an awesome looking trailer.
5/9/2006 5:40:15 PM
staking your entire console on a played FPS.....thats retarded
5/9/2006 5:43:24 PM
^The media hypes it, people buy it. Why not? It's not original and there are much better games in the genre, but fools don't know that.
5/9/2006 5:47:02 PM
you know, i really don't care about innovationi don't know what the big deal is about "doing it first" and "oh no- they copied us!"seems like it doesn't matter if you "copy" ideas as long as you improve
5/9/2006 5:47:23 PM
^And that's the philosophy of the entire Japanese race!
5/9/2006 5:48:05 PM
which sony doesnt do
5/9/2006 5:48:35 PM
5/9/2006 5:54:44 PM
analog-> actually atari did that, but it sucked. then GCE did the "vectrex" which was pretty goodrumble->pc's had force feadback and rumble effects in their joysticks and controllers before any consoleswireless->I don't hear you giving microsoft a hard time for this one... this is an obvious technology to impliment, oh and logitech unveiled the first cordless peripheral in 1984.motion-sensing-> this has been tried before but as yet not implemented well. they're both just copying older technologies and making them better. The whole accusation of copying is usually a pretty thin one at best. Obviously good innovations are going to be seen for what they are and implemented wherever it makes sense. All those "innovations" you mentioned were implemented either by other consoles first, or by the PC. They just weren't ready for the console. What nintendo did was get the timing of that right. That's not innovation, just good sense.[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 6:00 PM. Reason : ]
5/9/2006 5:57:49 PM
yea, what an innovation, POWER from a cord instead of a battery. n64 had to do it the way it did bc the rumble wasnt concieved when the console was launched^but nintendo is the one making the gamble, mass producing and applying the tech[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 5:58 PM. Reason : 5]
5/9/2006 5:58:16 PM
^^^analog shoulder buttons, I guess. The dual shock doesn't have those, right? I really don't know.[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 5:58 PM. Reason : ^][Edited on May 9, 2006 at 5:59 PM. Reason : ^^]
5/9/2006 5:58:34 PM
^^ But your complaint about copying still doesn't really hold water.[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 6:01 PM. Reason : spelling]
5/9/2006 6:01:07 PM
to be fair, it is called good business sense. if ppl will buy it without you having to dump the money into r&d, go for it. they've developed their brand well so far. i loved the ps1, ps2 was meh, but they sold a fuckload. good for them.
5/9/2006 6:01:46 PM
5/9/2006 6:02:12 PM
the only reason nintendo used batteries was becuase the rumble wasnt concieved at the time the console was designed
5/9/2006 6:03:21 PM
Yeah, and I mean you can't say nintendo hasn't been good for the console industry and hasn't pushed the technology sometimes. You COULD argue that a controller port that can provide extra power is an advanceWhich of the next next gen consoles use usb ports for controllers? The PS3 does, what about the 360? I know it has usb ports, but does it use them for the wired controllers? Anyways, I'd call using standard interfaces like usb and bluetooth to be an innovation, as far as consoles are concerned. I hate proprietary connectors. [Edited on May 9, 2006 at 6:11 PM. Reason : ]
5/9/2006 6:03:33 PM
connections in general are soooooo last console cycle.
5/9/2006 6:14:14 PM
^ well I mean bluetooth as opposed to proprietary built-in wireless as well.
5/9/2006 6:16:18 PM
27 Wii titles at launch is CORRECT. Plus more retro games.
5/9/2006 6:21:23 PM

Well I'm sold on the Wii. Wario Ware, Metroid Prime, and Super Mario Galaxy all have me excited. And Zelda: TP will probably be the best game to come out this fall. My only concern is the aforementioned problems with movement. The preview of Wario Ware makes it sound like you'll be spazzing out all over the place. The Metroid Prime preview at IGN says that it doesn't take much to move around though.Sony's conference was disappointing. I thought they'd at least have some new info on MGS4, DMC4, or at least a new platformer from their stable of franchises. ^^
5/9/2006 6:29:51 PM
To start, here's the "shell" controller...http://www.gamespot.com/news/6149763.htmlI was having doubts yesterday but I think I'm sold on the Wii now too. Besides all the first-party games, Red Steel realllly caught my eye. So did Disaster: Day of Crisis (I know that it's first party too - but it looks so freakin sweet from the 3 seconds I saw of it I had to mention it).
5/9/2006 6:41:16 PM
ps3 pic of TW:
5/9/2006 6:43:05 PM
that just looks like a controller for SNES games w/ analog sticksi dont see how its a shell for the wiimote[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 6:44 PM. Reason : ^clearly a CG tiger woods means a cool game.............]
5/9/2006 6:44:04 PM
^eat a dick... everyone enjoys the screenshots
5/9/2006 6:53:29 PM
and tiger woods is a good ass game
5/9/2006 6:56:09 PM
holy fucking shitim watching the microsoft conference.the live integration with vista is the coolest fucking thing ever.
5/9/2006 7:23:25 PM
I'm watching the Sony conference on IGN. Did anyone see the card game that sony came up with for ps3?http://media.ps3.ign.com/articles/705/705941/vids_1.htmlIf not, it's the 3rd video.. its at the 31/32 minute mark
5/9/2006 8:53:48 PM
yeah and i dont see what the big deal is about that. It's just eye toy + magic the gathering. (*snooze*)
5/9/2006 9:02:53 PM
you nerds just won't stop splooging all over some games
5/9/2006 9:07:29 PM
No. No we won't.
5/9/2006 9:12:23 PM
no link for the 27 games but it was confirmed in the conference (Wii).zelda, excite truck, metroid, mario, etc etc all looked fucking fun and i will buy all those at launch.i wish we knew a price and exact release date (confirmed Q4 2006)
5/9/2006 10:20:40 PM
if it does turn out to be over 150 or so itll have to wait as far as im concerned. the price was the big seller for me.
5/9/2006 10:38:02 PM
won't be more than 250 which is awesome.probably 200 and a 250 package or something? i dunno, better not speculate.
5/9/2006 10:56:54 PM
I suspect that all the Wii games will come with two controller setup...one classic , the other nunchuck
5/9/2006 11:01:26 PM
some of those games would be utter trash if it werent for the controller. oh boy, this shitty tennis game or top spin 2. the choices are endless.
5/9/2006 11:10:16 PM
So there you have it. No boomerang for the PS3. I'm glad to see the old controller. I think the whole tilting feature is redundant though. And the price tag sucks. But man, FF13 looks beautiful.
5/9/2006 11:51:06 PM
The Wii sports games are clearly more of a tech demo than anything. If they were full-fledged games they wouldn't be sold together.
5/9/2006 11:51:33 PM
looking at ALL the Wii launch title demo's and video, I'm REALLY disappointed. The games will definitely be fun, but they haven't pushed the graphics or physics AT ALL. It all just looks like gamecube games with a new controller.ESPECIALLY when you compare Wii to say the 360 or PS3 tech demo's, it's seriously lacking.Maybe if the Wii ends up being a 200 dollar machine, I could see some justification, but I'll bet they roll out at $299 which is going to kill it in the US.
