Out of the other possible coaches that we tried...Haith feels like a better fit. III
4/13/2006 9:11:32 PM
Exactly and we won't have to be in a bidding war for him.
4/13/2006 9:13:03 PM
Let me ask the people who think Haith would be a good hire something. In the games that we played them, did you ever think "man this guy is a great coach, I wish he was coaching our team!"
4/13/2006 9:15:04 PM
In every game we played this year I thought, Man, I'd rather have that team's coach than ours.
4/13/2006 9:16:55 PM
I'm not exactly sold on Haith just yet, but here's a plus for him. He has experience in ACC already. People have said that he understands the Tobacco Road rivalries. That said, the candidates from 'lesser' conferences might falter in making the jump to bigtime ACC bball. e.g. Marshall.^haha. that was a good comeback. i laughed[Edited on April 13, 2006 at 9:18 PM. miami has better uniforms than us, so sure, take him

Let's see, last week we were going after Barnes and Calipari. I wanted those two, but now that they are no where to be found on the map, I want Haith. Also, your question is spcious at best. During the season I didn't expect Herb to be going anywhere, but I will be honest. Watching Miami play made me believe that Haith was a good coach.
4/13/2006 9:26:43 PM
really don't want to get into the herb thing. But I really wanted Herb gone. sry, but that's the way I felt, good or bad. And I would/will accept the consequences, good or bad.

the most important thing to me at this point is getting a contract w/ a better shoe co.reebok would be nice.

^^ I thought virginia's coach did a great job this year but I'm not sure where or if he coached somewhere before. Outside of that I can't remember whating a game and being aware if it was the coaches second year as a coach. And at the beginning of the season miami was what 3rd in the conference and I thought "hey maybe miami can actually be decent this year" then they proceeded to lose seven of their last nine and end up tied for 8th in the conference. He may end up being a great coach and prove me wrong, but as of right now hes not and i don't see it happening in the near future.[Edited on April 13, 2006 at 9:54 PM. He was Jim Clahoun's number 1 assistant for many years.

i cant believe this thread is this long.....how is anybody taking haith seriously when we have other options right now. i'll be happy to get haith if it comes down to him and brady. i really dont like that brady guy.
4/13/2006 10:45:15 PM
Haith is our number one choice
4/13/2006 10:51:10 PM
but what about that contract extension he just signed? isn't that a sign that hes staying put... he pre-wolfpacked us
4/13/2006 11:56:34 PM
when did he sign it?[Edited on April 14, 2006 at 12:00 AM. Reason : yes. im too lazy to search for the answer.]
4/14/2006 12:00:15 AM
lemme just ask, im sure its been stated already thoughwhat was Herbs record against this guy? do we realllllly want to hire a guy that the Herb beat out.
4/14/2006 12:18:40 AM
herb had better fanshis own recruitsand hey, both coaches have been to the same amount of final fours, and have won the same number of acc championships.
4/14/2006 12:37:18 AM
haith has beaten roy more, if we are seriously reverting to using these ridiculous comparisons.
4/14/2006 12:48:36 AM
At this point, the coaches we want are all about equal in upside and downside. The thing that makes Haith stick out....is that he WANTS to be here. As of right now, thats all that matters unless we can pull a Jay Wright out of our ascending colon
4/14/2006 12:51:19 AM
bttt
4/14/2006 12:54:10 PM
i hear he could use a raise too
4/14/2006 1:12:18 PM
he just signed an extensionif he started talkin to us now it wouldn't be to get a raise, and i doubt miami would even be willing to offer one.
4/14/2006 1:33:00 PM
supposedly haith hasn't actually signed that extension with miami. maybe he is waiting to hear from us?

Do you understand the difference between a football school and a basketball school? Do you understand the difference between 2 years and 10 years?
4/14/2006 5:53:16 PM
He was arguing that Leitao had been a top assistant for years before becoming head coach...Haith has done the same thing.
4/14/2006 5:55:28 PM
I was telling him where Laito was from. I wasn't making an argument.

http://www.ncaa.org/stats/m_basketball/attendance/2005_basketball_attend.pdfAverage attendence in 2005Miami (Fla.) 4,626 4th largest increase gets them to <North Carolina St. 14,464 13th in the nation for averageRBC center fits what 18,000 to 19,000? giving us about 75-80% capacity on averageTheir stadium fits around 7,000 giving them around 65% capacity, up from about 45 last year.i repeat. he had no home court advantage.
4/14/2006 6:22:30 PM
i'm not real big on the guy at all really, but the fact (i guess it's a fact, donno really) that he wants to be here is a huge plus for him. i would be happy.

fans of coach k?

kruk, you'll love this picture
4/15/2006 12:23:12 PM
You never know what you've got until you put them in the circumstances. K, I believe, was something like 7-19 his last year at Army. He got progressively worse over his tenure there. Look at what he's done for Duke. We'd all like to have a slam dunk hire...but it doesn't look like it's happening. Don't knock Haith until you see what he can do here.[Edited on April 15, 2006 at 12:48 PM. Reason : That is, if he gets the chance]
4/15/2006 12:47:38 PM
I actually like Haith now that I've done some research on him. I was under the impression he was the coach there longer then he was.. That's what I get going from memory instead of actually looking it up...** Also, though it has nothing really to do with this thread Leitao was pretty impressive as the head coach of DePaul.. got his team to the second round with next to no talent. UVa is going to be a top half ACC team for a long time with the recruiting he is doing and the upgrade in facilities..
4/15/2006 12:57:55 PM
i think having a black coach is probably the only way we can really compete with carolina and duke in recruiting
4/15/2006 1:06:47 PM
4/15/2006 1:14:41 PM
I cant believe we havent called him....hopefully that just means we haven't "officially" contacted him.
4/15/2006 1:21:51 PM
1) I hope we haven't called him because we're doing well with Gillispie or PJ.2) It is Easter Weekend...although I doubt that stops most ADs.3) He is a coach in the ACC. Although Swofford might allow Haith to come to State...I have a feeling he would at least discourage it.

Well if we cant land an A list coach then at least we can land a B list coach with growing potential in Haith.Whoever we get better do well or he will be gone in 4-5 years so it would make sense to get a guy who cares about the school and not just using us for a stepping stone to a bigger school if he does do well. If he sucks here then maybe we can get barnes or another A lister down the road?and he is black and that matters to most black atheletes who are usually the ones athletic enough to compete with DUKE/UNC. Youre in denial if you dont accept that. Just take a look at what paul hewitt does for Gtech.
