Page 4 says I love Herb!Iowa won the Big Ten, the highest rated conference in the RPI. Because it was ugly it was a terrible game? It was good defense.[Edited on March 12, 2006 at 11:23 PM. Reason : Page 4]

i definitely remember who trey was. another good talent who ran or was run away. who cares how many points harrington scored in the nba? he made it didnt he? obviously, you have to be pretty good to make it. that's plain retarded to argue. come on.and packboozie, my folks have season tickets too. i've been goin to games my whole life. you and me are in the minority on this board i believe.

3/12/2006 11:34:02 PM
he appeared in 19 gamesthat's 19 more games than Grundy and Gainey combined and they are 1000X better than Harrington
3/12/2006 11:34:17 PM
they would know who Guidry was if they saw him nail 5 3-pointers against Wake Forest.would have liked to see Marshall Williams stick around
3/12/2006 11:37:44 PM
I wish Powell would have stuck around

Powell got bad advice from somebody after he had a breakout ACC Tournamenti don't think you can chalk that one up to Herb
3/13/2006 12:24:30 AM
i hope Herb wins the damn NC not just b/c i want it, but just to shut up all of the haters.i'm not a blind Herb lover. i see problems with our team. the thing i think hurts us the most is the fact that the guys don't hit the boards like they should. when you see your teammate shoot a three, don't just sit there and watch the ball fly through the air. try to get close to the basket b/c that's where most missed shots end up. in that 4-5 foot radius around the basket. it's not that hard to understand. we are usually a very solid team. shoot fts well. often have deadly 3-pt shooters that can knock down the open look (don't know where they went to, but i hope they return ), and we have the ability to spread teams out and bringing their big men out from the basket. we often take care of the ball well. the rebounding is our big factor in why we lose games. just b/c 4 guys are out around the arc when a 3-pt shot is thrown up doesn't mean that 2 of them can't run close to the basket to at least contend for a rebound.sometimes we can hold of teams when they try to make a run, and sometimes we can't. i just don't get it. simmons needs to get back to his old self, even though i know he was sick for the WF Tourney game. also we need to feed it to him more when the 3 is not falling. i'd personally like to see more of a balance between both.i think what irks State fans the most is that we have the RBC Center, arguably the finest bball arena in the ACC, and top 10 in capacity nationally, we have a very loud, supportive, and knowledgeable fan base that creates a great gameday atmosphere, and one of the most tradition filled programs nationally, yet we can't even beat UNC and Duke even 40% of the time during the recent more successful years. you can argue all you want about matchup problems, but that first meeting in Chapel Hill the obviously more experienced State team should have beaten the less experienced UNC team, and it looked almost as predicted during the first few minutes when we jumped out to that early lead. now the second meeting, UNC played an almost flawless game, but how in the world did we get beat by 24 at home. we were only able to force 5 turnovers on the then last place team in terms of turnover margin. with all of that said, Go State! please surprise me and everyone in this years tournament.

I get annoyed by the alumni JimmyV cockstroking that goes on at NC State. J.V wasn't the best coach in the world nor were his teams the dominant powerhouse that our alumni made them out to be. Could he have gotten even better and became as big of an institution as K? Maybe. Did he? No. That being said, while its unfair to hold Herb S. to a phantom standard that our fans, not Jimmy V. set, its not a total stretch of reality to say that Herb's teams have all been a dissappointment. People will say "oh we made the NCAA's X years straight.", "oh we made the tournament final X times", "oh we're obviously on the up and up" and they'll point to records, and statistics, and opinion columns that all together show the picture of a good, but not great, program. We haven't one very many big games, we've choked multiple times in the NCAAT and ACCT as well as had inexplicable injuries that ultimately lead to meltdowns. When something like Watkins tearing his knee or the team playing flatfooted for no reason then its just an abberation, a part of what makes basketball interesting. When it happens multiple times, then it becomes a trend. A trend that Herb Sendek is all too familiar with, be it bad luck or not. Furthermore, Herb's teams have been called methodical, precise, and discplined but they haven't ever been called passionate. When teams have brought the heat and determined against us, we've almost always without question crumbled. When players have caught fire and singlehandedly gained control of the team, we've been unable to shut them down or contain them. How many times have you heard a state fan say "man who the hell is XXXX, that dude scored averaged like three points a game before" as XXXX drained his 5th three ball? How many times have you seen our team burn away a lead and throw the towel in with a last desperate no-chance-in-hell lob at the basket? As good of a man Herb is, and as much as he may know basketball, I have yet to see anything from him to convince me that he is a motivational force. That he can convince players to play much better then they really, even if only for one night. Sure, his system hides the fact that very few players on our teams have been athletic and talented, but I can't remember any game where our team has gone into a timeout and comeback pumped an hungry. For Herb to save this year, and at least maintain progress, he has to win at least 2 games. Judging from our bracket, thats going to take some serious basketball. Basketball we haven't seen our team play in over a month. And that folks, is just to save his job./Rant
3/13/2006 1:33:43 AM
^he won't be fired even if we lose in the first round. he MIGHT take a job somewhere else to get away from our fans, but he won't be fired. or forced to resign. not after this season. period.

Tyrus Wade. Set a RBC Center record with 37 points I believe. Ive never seen anything like that. He looked like Tracy McGrady out there.

No we actually blow leads when we try to play a fast paced game. With Atsur and Evtimov getting majority PT, we can't play an athletic game in transition. Any game we've lost this year we've done so moving away from our regular offense. That makes me doubt Herb even more.
3/13/2006 11:15:59 AM
^I think you're on the same side of the fence as me, and we might blow some leads trying to play too quickly, but thats different from running princeton crap and blowing leads, which is what we have done.against VT, we tried to play with the clock with 14 minutes left in the game.....Run the shot clock to five seconds, and take a shitty shot or turn it over. SOMEONE TELL HERB THAT YOU CAN NOT DO THAT....HE DID THE SAME MOTHERFUCKING THING AGAINST MD AND DUKE IN THE TOURNAMENT A FEW YEARS BACK AND LOST BOTH TIMES. thats what I'm talking about....its the same shit after 4 years.[Edited on March 13, 2006 at 11:41 AM. syracuse just won the big east tournament championship game by doing that, and they were up by 3 or less when they did it.but you're right. based on those two wonderful examples you provided it can't be done. fire herb
3/13/2006 11:45:24 AM
but Syracuse is actually capable of making shots
3/13/2006 12:42:56 PM
yeah you're right, we haven't shot well all season.everybody has slumps. jj redick, arguably the best shooter of all time, just had about a 3-4 game shooting slump and broke out of it just in time to win the acc tournament. it would take a lot of luck perhaps, but who's to say we can't break out of ours on friday?

Vitale has always been a big supporter of Herb and feels that he has NEVER got his just due.
3/13/2006 1:51:45 PM
Its because he LOVES duke and unc and knows that as long as herb is here we wont compete with them.[Edited on March 13, 2006 at 1:54 PM. Reason : all unc fans like herb, wonder why?]
3/13/2006 1:53:39 PM
^ thats just as fucking stupid as the UNC/DUKE ref consipiracyyou sound like a fucking tool
3/13/2006 1:55:13 PM
^^yep, thats it exactly

if you dont think Vitale gloats over duke and unc, you must have never listened to him speak.

3/13/2006 2:00:55 PM
didn't say that (HE GLOATS OVER EVERY TEAM BY THE WAY, did you watch the selection show??) but i am saying it is ridiculous to think that he wants Sendek at State so Duke and UNC can consistently whip state and he can praise them more
3/13/2006 2:01:22 PM
^actually i watched the real selection show on cbswho gives a fuck what vitale thinks anyways[Edited on March 13, 2006 at 2:03 PM. Reason : ]

the point i was making was that we are never going to compete with duke or unc with herb, just wont happen, he doesnt put value into rivalry games
3/13/2006 2:04:04 PM
Ill be honest, I am very skeptical of Herb right now, mostly because I feel his lack of intensity is copied by his players most of the time. However, if he were to change things up a bit and start playing to our teams strengths, I would give him a second chance. I just want us to win so bad that its hard to keep supporting a system with so many flaws and weaknesses. I think that having two systems that can be interchanged would be the best option, but I dont think that would allow players to learn it well enough.... so basically I just think we need to switch the system, not the coach. But the problem with that is that we cant make that decision, the coach does....

I think it's funny how many of the Herb supporters in this thread are no longer Herb supporters. Also wanted to point this out, because I remember watching this game vividly. It was about the most frustrating thing I'd seen, and definitely worse than the Iowa game that year, though that was clearly a train wreck too.
