so all we have left for this class is Burke and Baldwin? Do we even have a shot at anyone else at this point?

from what I understand, that is all she wrote

Cole Baucom I guess, but i don't think he will be signing a letter of intent

Yep, next years class is strong at the top...and Chuck has extended his hand early and often to these kids (sounds like he is changing strategy a bit) so if we miss again next year, we have only our reputation/record to blame

What are Burke's other options?
2/1/2006 3:14:49 PM
Louisville wanted him, but Burke has given no indication that he's wavering on State. If he were to pick someone else, I'd be shocked.
2/1/2006 3:15:43 PM
burke is solid. don't expect baldwin though. florida papers say that he's gonna wait to get his SAT back and then he will either get a scholly from florida or walk on there. damn you doc
2/1/2006 3:16:15 PM
Burke is signing around 3:30 at a press conference. Baucom is already enrolled at NCSU as a walk-on, he does not sign a LOI.The only one we're worried about is Darrin Baldwin. He is considering walking on at UF compared to accepting a full ride to NCSU.

^that just blows my mind, i mean if the kid was deciding between Miami/FSU/Florida/USC/Texas and say, Central Illinois, i can see the differencewe are a top 25ish program though

Someone told me that Burke reversed his verbal...guy must not know what he is talking about
2/1/2006 3:27:42 PM
Burke has not reversed shithe and trest have a great relationship and he wants to be an engineerhe did not even take other visits, he has nowhere else to go at this point

^don't be too mesmorized by the numberswe have some good solid kids in this classUNC is ranked that high, partially b/c of sheer numbers, and a lot of those kids, 3-4 that I can think of off the top of my head have had their stars increase since verballing with the HeelsDuke had a good class, and signed a couple jumbo athletes early, they deserve to be where they arestay tuned, next year Chuck will be back on the recruiting Warpath with a top 20 class as long as we take care of business on the field and at least win the ones we are supposed to[Edited on February 1, 2006 at 3:45 PM. ^^ I'd take a 1 star Florida player over any 3* North Carolina player. They play much much tougher competition and they are overlooked/don't look as good as NC players. NC Players dominate and get overrated becuase the competition and athleticism of H.S. ball here is dwarfed by Florida. You put them in a Florida league and 99% of them would drop like a rock in the rankings. Again... of all the kids Chuck has sent to the NFL and have been great players.... what state have they come from primarily? Answer: Florida. Our entire D-Line was from N.C.... but most of our good players under Chuck have been underrated Florida guysAlso, according to that link...Texas Tech has 34 commitments. Goddamn thier waiver wire is going to be longer than UNC's.[Edited on February 1, 2006 at 3:55 PM. Reason : ]

I just red all the bio on the signees, and was wondering if hannah going to play TE or DE here?
2/1/2006 4:45:55 PM
we picked up Audi, hell yes....thats a great sign...didnt even know he was signing a LOI with is today, wow...glad to see that. This class seems to be one of raw talent that Chuck is just gonna have to develop, seems he recruited a lot of athletes and will put them where he sees fit...big strong fast guys....just gonna rotate them around im sure. not a bad class though given how poor of a year it was for all teams.
2/1/2006 4:51:20 PM
Just checked the team rankings here is a little recap:Here is the top 10:(1) Florida(2) USC(3) Texas(4) Georgia(5) Notre Dame(6) LSU(7) Penn State(8) Oklahoma(9) Auburn(10) Michigan***If that top 10 list isn't a whos who of college football, I don't know what isACC Rankings:(1) FSU #12(2) Miami #15(3) Clemson #21(4) UNC #25(5) Maryland #28(6) Va. Tech #31(7) Duke #39(8) NC State #40(9) Boston College #43(10) Virginia #53(11) Ga Tech #56(12) Wake Forest #64***Seems like a generally weak year for the ACC on the recruiting trail, have not heard this talked about much, but numbers show a bad trendSome interesting Tidbits(1) #31 is a bad showing by Virginia Tech, fans in Blacksburg can not be happy. Loss in the ACC title game hurt, but not even getting a top 30 class must hurt even more up there.(2) Clemson's class being #21 and UNC's being #25 screams of Hole bias to me. I don't know much about the power structure at scout, but the holeboosting that goes on with star rating hikes/and ranking favoritism can only go on for so long until some of the folks online with some ingenuity ferret them out. (EX: article where quotes that were said by a recruit that were clearly negative to UNC mysteriously disappeared a few weeks ago)(3) The Canes in Miamitown had some unrest and coaching turnover but rallied with a 15th ranked class, those snobs down there will not be happy, but they should be counting their lucky stars b/c that is amazing with almost 100% turnover with coaches during the recruiting push(4) Notable disappointments: South Carolina at #33 (that seems disappointing for the VISOR);Already mentioned Va. Tech; #62 for WVU (must be demoralizing after coming off a BCS victory, and looking at a top 5 ranking in the pre-season polls); Tenn. (at #24 is weak for them, good for most, but shows a strong downward trend for the VOLS)(5) Ole Miss ended up #14 on the back of a strong early class, Miami's coaching staff, and the ever squirley Brent Shaeffer....let me be the first to say, Good luck Brent. I have washed my hands of you and only hope for the best, no more sour grapes, unless you face the Pack in a bowl game(6) finally the Hannah saga comes to an end, those of you that have followed that one know that it was almost as hyped/talked about as Brent Shaeffer/Aromachadeu/Shae Cotton combined! (well, BS happened twice so he probably wins that race)(7) USC; let me just say DAMN, what a dynasty, they can wipe their tears from the title game with 8 five star guys and 12 four star guys, they only took two guys that were 3*...what a class, I tell you what Caroll is everything you could want a college coach to be, and I really admire that guyOn that note, screw UNC, we will beat them on the field and the recruiting trail next year, Hopefully Darin Baldwin comes to his senses, and hopefully chuck comes back next year a little more humble, and a bit harder working, stadium is taking shape, and it can only go up from the last two years!Signing off from this recruiting season, after March madness I will probably become addicted to next years class, but for now it is time to take stock, and a deep breath!GO PACK!!![Edited on February 1, 2006 at 4:59 PM. I was just listening to them talk about our recruiting class on 850am. One guy pointed out that we have one guy that made one all american list...and that was Burke. UNC had 15 names on different all american lists (some names repeat, different publications), and Miami and FSU had around 40 a piece. They also talked about how horrible our recruiting in NC was this year, and its likely a result of coach turnover...mentioned Holiday and Diaz leaving. They did point out that we got some good players from Florida again, but we're still not beating FSU and Miami...but winning might change that soon. What I'm hoping is that these last few classes came in with big heads from being ranked really high and didnt put forth the effort needed to win...so this year they cant argue when the coaches say they suck and need to work harder. I dont really know why I shared this...its already well documented.
2/1/2006 4:59:17 PM
^repeats add to thatMullins was probably on 4-5 lists
2/1/2006 5:01:53 PM
Being on All-American lists won't win them any games.... Lest we forget they had how many McD's All Americans on their basketball team not even 5 years ago and went 8-20. I like our class, and the rankings systems are wrong. If Burke had gone anywhere else he would have probably been at least a 4* if not 5*. Rankings systems are quite biased....
2/1/2006 5:05:04 PM
^yeah, it did not make any sense that at the beginning of the year Burke was a *4, and he threw up crazy, i mean crazy numbers and was downgraded....right around the time he committed to the pack!

2/1/2006 5:14:16 PM
put me on record saying I wouldn't be surprised if mullins never makes it...i've heard his grades were rough. I know he won't be at unc next year...unless of course the rules somehow work for them which wouldn't surprise me.

another interesting recruiting story that is starting to get legs...this is the Red and White version, but as far as I can see the pack has no stake in the outcome, so it is not a biased-laden piecegood read if you have 10-15 minutes http://www.redandwhitefromstate.com/article.php/20060131075643499(about Myron Rolle, a major recruit that ended up signing with FSU)[Edited on February 1, 2006 at 5:32 PM. our entire secondary except AJ last year was from florida...and the wideouts? OH PS...the interview on packpride.com with amato....he says we tried to get burke here early...but the main reason he didnt come was because he wanted to play basketball his senior year with all of his buddies.
2/1/2006 5:48:01 PM
no shitour entire d-line, o-line and rb core was from ncbut that wasnt the point
2/1/2006 5:53:42 PM
Florida Players make up 26% of our roster in Chuck's first four seasonsNorth Carolina makes up 46% (I think... have the stats at home). The percentage of Florida players that actually play and make an impact compared to NC players is lopsided. Sure, plenty of players from North Carolina pan out.... not to mention many of our NC players that do make an impact were very highly touted players. In the broad scheme of things, Florida players that come here pan out better on average, become bigger impact players on average, and make it to the NFL better on averageOh, and John McCargo is from Virginia, not NC....and our OLine sucks ass [Edited on February 1, 2006 at 6:01 PM. 2/1/2006 6:04:06 PM
i didnt mean to claim mccargo was from nc, we also have non-nc players on o-line and non-fl players at wr, but our best o and d linemen are from nc.and sure florida players pan out, but that wasnt the point i was trying to arguethat guy said he would rather have a 1 or 2 star fl player over a 3 or 4 star nc player, which makes no sense.btw tramain is about as worthless as a 5 star as aj and aj still has a year left to prove himself.
