so - this dude ruined his car yet? if so I'll give him $20 for the alternator off the real engine... bearings are shot on mine... for another $20 I'll take the power steering pump and hoses...there should be enough 944 owners on this board to pick up most of the 2.5 engine + bits... make something positive come out of this deal

bttt
4/14/2006 6:03:47 AM
Um.. still doing well. Actually. I came to a realization that I want to move out (from my apartment) and buy a house. So I'm going to actually wait on this, and invest in something that doesn't depreciate first. Then I'll do the swap. Damn, college finally taught me something worthwhile... Oh yeah, its running great. [Edited on April 15, 2006 at 11:47 PM. Reason : .]

bwhhahahaha
6/2/2006 3:55:53 PM
ha, cool to see you guys stickin around on this one. I have gotten a few of the misc. mods I'll be doing to the car in the future (ie: the big red brake kit, extra torque tube, etc...) and around $7k laying around. So yes, if I so decided to undergo this project, I would have no trouble doing so (financiallY) However, as previously stated, I'd rather throw my money into something that has a greater investment value (ie: HOUSE). Not only is it smarter, but I'll have a garage so I can do my own work and not have to take it to a shop. With that said, the $7k + will be saved for a down payment rather than an engine swap.[Edited on June 3, 2006 at 3:47 AM. Reason : .]
6/3/2006 3:45:40 AM
who didnt see that cop out coming a mile away? another one bites the dust...
6/3/2006 3:59:54 AM
Never saw this one coming!
6/3/2006 7:11:18 AM
so you spend upwards of $1500 on a big brake kit and say you're not wanting to waste money? jesus, just fess up
6/3/2006 5:29:13 PM
actually i got a complete set of 993 rotors, adapters, calipers and a few other things for $800. That's not as big of a detour as dropping $8k-$9k on a complete engine swap. I was going to spend the money on that either way, but I figured I was saving around $800 at least by buing it now rather than later.
6/3/2006 11:20:24 PM
you couldnt even use the stock brakes to their full extent, why go bigger?
6/4/2006 3:04:38 AM
^so fucking true.
6/4/2006 4:14:31 AM
6/4/2006 7:09:11 AM
why does a n/a 944 need larger brakes?
6/4/2006 7:47:34 AM
I could see it needing larger brakes if he tracks it alot and he gets brake fade. I've got an N/A Rx-7 with the 4 piston brakes and 10.9" front rotors (decent sized for a stock 80's car) and those things were smoking after several consecutive runs at Deal's Gap
6/4/2006 9:36:58 AM
Why do you need upgraded brakes for a turbo 944, bitches are slow.
6/4/2006 12:29:34 PM
I've tracked a 944 N/A at some of the tracks around NC, including CMP which is considered to be the worst track on brakes. I had a slight amount of fade, on all stock components, except for agressive street pads. 944 NAs don't need upgraded brakes, even people with dedicated track cars don't do them. Also, just throwing bigger calipers on the car without worrying about the proportioning valve, or master cylinder to 'slave cylinder' (brake pistons) fluid ratio will adversely effect braking performance.944 turbos are not underbraked either, though after a few basic mods, pads alone won't be enough to keep them from fading on all but the shortest tracks. The turbo S brakes are OK to around 300rwhp before they also start fading. This is all for track duty, there are many v8 swapped 944s running around on n/a brakes without issues on the street. Either car has plenty of brake for the street, even with agressive mods.Ahmet
6/4/2006 12:46:50 PM
^ I will agree with on most of what you said. A few guys with v8 944's have all done brake upgrades (many of them with big reds in the front, and moving the turbo front brake system to the rear). We have 2 groups, 1) I don't need no stinking power brakes, I just have to find the right combination of-take your pick- leverage ratio, pad compound, piston size, m/c size, ect, ect. 2) lets boost our brakes and be done with it. While many do choose power over manual, I and a few others still enjoy the feeling of manual brakes...I do plan on one day tracking the hell out of this car (while keeping it street legal), so i'm going to the extreme with most of the components. With stock cheap'o pads, the brakes will fade after 3 hard stops...
6/20/2006 9:38:42 PM
have you ever tracked this/a car?? how do you know they will fade.stick with your stock pads, cuz little do you know, you probably wont be able to fade the pads. the biggest mistake is people upgrading parts not knowing the extent of their stock parts.
6/20/2006 11:01:34 PM
terrible idea
6/20/2006 11:04:21 PM
^^ I appreciate your assumption that I don't know what my stock parts are capable of...
6/20/2006 11:26:44 PM

6/29/2006 12:08:06 PM
I think what baonest meant to say is, work on compressing your braking zones. Then you won't have to be nearly as concerned w/ brake fade. This would be a great thing to work your hypothetical engine swap.
6/29/2006 12:22:18 PM
bling bling
8/9/2006 10:03:36 PM
Now that the engine swap is surely done it's time for the tranny and widebody kit.
8/9/2006 10:18:12 PM
o nigga fo sho
8/9/2006 10:36:04 PM
screw the widebody kit, i like it, however I don't need it. it was more for aesthetics anyways (although I did have an idea to use the side vents for the tranny's oil coolers...)I think a more reasonable proposal had I thought it out is, Hmm.. I'll get myself a house in about 2 years... and about a year after that, I'll have the tranny swapped, suspension all complete, and the body repainted. then finally the engine the following year....
8/9/2006 10:49:36 PM
how about i propose you're a queer, you got your shit called in this thread, now sign the fuck out forever. [shmorri2/]

I saw you in Cary the other day (Callahan, help me out here). I thought you were somebody else as your car looked like a turbo from a distance so I caught up to you (in my silver M3 4 door). When you saw me, you "got on it", which was kind of cute. I fell back when I realized you weren't who I thought you were. A couple of blocks later, you attempted to parallel park. I waited on you for about 30 seconds, then decided to go around you... You were backing in for the 3rd time last I looked at my rear view mirror, when I was well over a block away. Nice driving.Ahmet
8/10/2006 2:44:34 AM
^i thought it was "cute" when you attempted to race me in high school with your na 944, only to get beat by a stock fullsize truck with oversize tires gg on calling this fag out though.[Edited on August 10, 2006 at 5:48 PM. Reason : .]

you saw me ahmet? (if so you are mistaken sir). I haven't been down in cary in a while, specially parallel parking... I drove thru by there last week, but no parallel parking... where would I have been parallel parking in cary? only place I HAVE gone in cary was CTC and that was for the no tax weekend.Nice story, sorry I'm not the driver of that 944. you only have 336 posts, you still have time to create a new sn and leave this one to die.
8/10/2006 11:15:19 PM
Callahan told me that it was you. Will have to get back to you on that. Either way though, 944s are slow, see the last paragraph. As for the high school 944 story, those cars as you already know are all about handling. This never made me shy about openning the throttle in one. I "raced" Randy's 500+rwhp C5 with a 944 turbo S, even though it was over a second slower in the quarter... 944s are pitifully slow without a doubt, hence I don't own one anymore. I do recall thinking "I thought it would be faster than most stockish 4x4 vehicles in the late 90s, much less one that's got big wheels/tires", but I suppose you had some engine modifications...
