^LOL!I read that and thought the same thing.

this one time i was on a message board and these kiddies were laughing at people whom they thought were incompetent. A couple of the more amusing tidbits:1) A number of kids thought it was impossible to extract text from a simple image to an editable text document2) One of them also thought it was impossible to selectively delete files from the recycle bin
3/2/2006 10:44:48 AM
Let's just get back to the funny tales please?
3/2/2006 10:47:55 AM
that was a funny tale, made even funnier because they thought they were so smart berating the "luser" for wanting to delete individual files from the recycle bin - and heaven knows you can't get text off a picture LOL!!!
3/2/2006 10:49:12 AM
^^^as i recall, they merely ASKED you how it was done. that does not equate to saying it's impossible.

Yes, I know the stories are funny. Thats why I told my own. But then you got mad at me for telling it.[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 11:02 AM. Reason : s]

reminds me of one time some idiot claimed that Apple would never switch to Intel. lollers
3/2/2006 11:03:51 AM
I know - but at least that was speculation about the future and not gross inaccuracy regarding established technical processes - which is what this thread is about[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 11:08 AM. Reason : s]
3/2/2006 11:05:48 AM
This thread used to be funny.
3/2/2006 11:12:52 AM
this thread is about funny stories from people who work in the it support fieldwhich you dontyou dont even troll well. The joke about trying to highlight the text on the picture WAS funny, and WAS acurately a tale of someone who is inept because you have to have specialized software to do it, you cant just drag your cursor around it in word.you fail at trollingyou fail at being funnykill yourself, sooner rather than later[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 11:16 AM. Reason : you dont even point out why your 'stories' are wrong, other people have to for you, faggot]
3/2/2006 11:15:54 AM
Bring back teh funny
3/2/2006 11:21:37 AM
and excoriator's need to compensate for something kills another thread
3/2/2006 11:30:22 AM
i came here hoping there would be more funny
3/2/2006 11:37:21 AM
I thought the purpose of this thread was to laugh at the technically inept. That's all I've done.
3/2/2006 11:42:31 AM
All you've done is prove, again, that you're a douche nozzle.
3/2/2006 11:43:39 AM
so, technically, he is inept for not recognizing that he is a douche nozzleis that how we do this now?
3/2/2006 11:46:10 AM
I like how bitchy everyone got once I pointed out that they were guilty of the same thing they were castigating others for.typical.

whatever....on more than one occasion from otherwise completely rational people, i get this gem "I have an 80 gig computer! Is that fast enough?"
3/2/2006 12:29:10 PM
yeah i have the hardest time trying to explain the difference between RAM and HDD space to my mother. it's fucking ridiculous.
3/2/2006 12:31:45 PM
It should be pretty easy to understand why there would be initial confusion between ram and hdd space. After all, even from a technical perspective, ram and hdd are only one cache level away from each other.
3/2/2006 1:20:06 PM
give it upso you have a small penis, just deal with it
3/2/2006 1:29:16 PM
neither have to do with 'speed' in the sense that they are speaking, rather the size does not equate to speed...
3/2/2006 1:45:18 PM
^^^yeah, INITIAL confusion.
3/2/2006 1:49:52 PM
From a techinical perspective, the impact of the difference between Ram and HDD is huge.
3/2/2006 2:07:14 PM
while excoriator is right about the trashcan thing, the whole OCR debate is retarded.
3/2/2006 2:13:15 PM
Meh, I can understand someone making a mistake about what an internal component or spec actually means/does. I can forgive people who think something with higher clock speed is automatically faster. I can understand when people say "I want windows xp" or "microsoft xp" when they actually mean " I want microsoft office 2003."It's just the all too common customer or call that argues with you as though they are somehow an authority on the matter when they are completely and obviously ignorant. Those are the customers that make the best "tales of the technically inept" because they always get angry and overreact while you're just trying to help them.[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 2:14 PM. 3/2/2006 2:14:20 PM
not really - OCR is at the point where google is easily digitizing libraries' entire catalogues of books. You can't do that with weak OCR technology. To scan in that much information as fast as google is, it just has to pretty much work. And before you morons can ask, yes, it is being scanned in as editable (searchable) text.
3/2/2006 2:16:13 PM
Well, I don't know. I don't usually troll customers I have to deal with
3/2/2006 2:22:47 PM
expecting to somehow view your email without opening your email client is a sign of technical ineptitudenot being able to digitize books using OCR is not
3/2/2006 2:28:45 PM
ok whatever it takes to salve that ego
3/2/2006 3:24:11 PM
last weekend i was at my moms house and i got a great gem from her "how do i search on google?"ive also gotten"how to burn (music/data) CDs?""how do you copy a picture?"she cracks me up hahaha

3/2/2006 4:30:49 PM
Person from neighboring office: "Can you come take a look at my computer? I've got 2 monitors in here that both supposedly used to work, and now neither of them turn on. I don't know wtf is going on, I've got them connected to my computer and everything."Me: ::looks:: "See this spot right here, with the prongs? That's for a power cable."[Edited on March 7, 2006 at 2:45 PM. Reason : ---]

3/7/2006 2:56:27 PM
For what it's worth, my comment about the trash was entirely correct* given that the person in question was talking about their mac.*Technicaly speaking, it would be possible to do from the command line but that would not have helped this guy at all.

new stories?
5/26/2006 7:30:46 PM
i tell a lady to turn on her computer she replies "how do i do that"i tell her to press the power button, she says "wheres that"the sad part is she's had this computer for years...i just don't get it.
5/26/2006 7:51:02 PM
i overheard a coworker describing trying to troubleshoot a printer problem. apparently the printer was a network printer and he couldn't get the computer to find the printer on the network. He told the user that he didn't think the computer could 'see' the printer. she said she turned the monitor to face the printer, so it should be able to see it just fine.
