^ David Chase is not going to sell out and accept advertisments on the show. He is so particular about what gets in and how the story is told that either the ads don't mean anything OR they do have a meaning to them. After watching the opening scenes, it seems that the ads dont mean anything. The only ad that was blatant was the Nesquick on Bobbys choo choo train. All others where more subtle

The rolling stones was really obvious, and made such a interesting statement with the rolling stones tattoo right there next to her suckling child. And I figured the Nestle's Quik thing was making a metaphor between that brand and Baccala himself becoming a father as the nestle's quick brand went from being a family drink to a child's by adopting a bunny and changing the name to the shorter "Nesquik", and the whole toy train thing kind of represents a reversion into childhood itself. I think we'll see some kind of relationship between Bobby and childhood.[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 5:33 PM. Reason : ]

^ Janice's rolling stone tatoo has been seen in many episodes. I think Chase is just trying to show Janice's old life (tatoo) vs her new life as a devoted mother (remember she has a junkie son in Montreal). Your second point is a bit of a stretch IMO. If anything many of the scenes deal with food. Agent Harris is throwing up from a stomach infection, Vito is a poster boy for Atkins, Janice is breast feeding, and then Bobby is playing like a little kid with a Nesquick train. But as with many of the hidden meanings on the show, it takes at least a couple of episodes to really understand what the theme is.BTW wtf is up with Vito?? He really has become a strange character. He asks for lemon water when he visits the hospital. He's on Phill's balls the whole episode, and then he's contemplating on making a hit on Tony at the Bada Bing. Remember Fin is the only one who knows his gay secret so its gonna be interesting to see how Vito's story plays out.[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 6:57 PM. Reason : .]

Vito is so lame for thinking he can be the boss. He is so far down the line, he'd have to wack half the family to become the boss. Realilistically he is behind Sylvio, Chris, Pauly, Larry Barone if he is not in jail
3/15/2006 9:52:38 AM
No I definately think Chris is the heir. TS has repeatedly said he can only rely on family which is why Chris is already a Captain. I would say Silvio is behind Chris but I doubt Sil would actually want the job.

this season needs more sil and paulie(pauly?)

i hope anthony jr. gets involved in the family businessand gets whacked[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 11:13 AM. Reason : .]

that would be poetic justicethe show brings us close to Tony to the point where we empathize with him, but we forget how much a monster he isif Anthony Jr. were to die in Tony's arms/in front of his eyes, that pain would be equivalent to that which he has inflicted on so many othersnot to mention, Anthony Jr is a low life too
3/15/2006 11:29:41 AM
If your nose runs and your feet smell.....you're built upside down.
3/15/2006 12:26:24 PM
3/15/2006 1:32:41 PM
he kills and inflicts violence regularly, cheats on his wife habitually, and leads a machine that preys on and perpetuates degenerate behaviourall the while disregarding this little tennet of civilisation we call "the law"if you don't think he's a monster, the entertainment value of the show has lulled you into a false moral relativism
3/15/2006 2:17:25 PM
Oh, I'll admit he's a crook and not a nice guy, but which side of the law this particular crook falls upon doesn't much effect my judgement of his character. He only kills those who engage in business with him, I don't care if he breaks marriage vows, where he spills his seed is none of my concern.Tony as a person isn't so bad, he wants to raise a good family, sure he is infected by greed, but aren't we all? He values his family and is loyal to those close to him, he doesn't cause unneccesary pain and suffering, so in my book he's a pretty good guy.
3/15/2006 2:24:58 PM
I would accept him as my god father so he's a good person.
3/15/2006 2:27:49 PM
^^ that is the way "they" want you to see himmobsters are people tooits probably a moot point
3/15/2006 2:38:23 PM
...what i'm saying is probably a moot point
3/15/2006 2:38:46 PM
oh he's definately make-believe, I don't know anything about real mobsters, but as for the Tony Soprano on TV, I empathise with him and consider him the hero, not really much of a monster, kind of like satan in paradise lost.
3/15/2006 2:42:27 PM
he's a monster when he is killing someone with his bare handsbut he is a good person when he tries to look out for his children and other things like that
3/15/2006 2:53:49 PM
haha nice assessmnet
3/15/2006 2:56:51 PM
he's bad when he does bad things and good when he does good thingsTHAT SHITS ON POINT
3/15/2006 3:31:47 PM
i'm a pretty deep thinkerbut seriously he is kinda two-sided like that, however obvious my post seemed
3/15/2006 4:39:21 PM
^ akahe's just like you and me
3/15/2006 5:29:28 PM
just like you and me minus all the "organized crime" and "he kills lots of people" and what not
3/15/2006 5:41:58 PM
Everybody's kind of like that though, when I'm with my friends, I'm a nice guy, but you catch me in trafic or when I'm trying to get mine, you'll see a different side.
3/15/2006 8:46:08 PM
I'm cool with my friends, but when people piss me off I either report a phony suicide so that Sil can shoot them in the woods, or I just strangle them with electrical wire.
3/15/2006 9:36:21 PM
I pull the guy off a branch 15 feet of the ground by his safety wire.
3/15/2006 10:11:06 PM
i think, regardless of whether the guy deserved it or not, the way he treated and pimped the gambling-addicted T-1000 in season 2 was the point where i finally realized how much of a fucking monster tony could be
3/15/2006 11:03:29 PM
I don't see the difference between him taking advantage of his gambling addiction and state governments where gambling is legal taking advantage of him. If you have any kind of addictive problem, someone is going to exploit you.
3/16/2006 2:24:08 AM
if somebody pisses me off, i usually shoot them in the woods too...however, before hand, i act like the poison ivy that they might've given me is already itching

I like the look of that, the first episode was painfully short on Paulie

3/18/2006 2:54:28 PM
^ i thought that it was much more than a year because she was an accessory to that murder in her bar
3/18/2006 7:04:08 PM
she had been giving them info for years though. he's talking about intially she chose to be an informant rather than a year or two of time.
3/18/2006 7:28:45 PM
oh. right on.
3/18/2006 7:56:05 PM
One thing I noticed in the dialogue in this episode was when Tony corrects his psychiatrist about what she calls where they want to put the uncle. She calls it a retirement community, and Tony corrects her by saying its a nursing home. In the first season when Tony was trying to put his mom in there he always corrected the person calling it a nursing home by saying it’s a retirement community. Its a little reversal and a nice point about Tony's psychology I think.
3/19/2006 8:16:40 PM
new one right now?
3/19/2006 9:00:22 PM
^ its because he cares more for his uncleshrinks sometimes have a one-track mindMelfi keeps trying to bring up how horrible his mom was. duh, tony already knows that.
3/19/2006 9:00:40 PM
i hope this is a nightmare................
3/19/2006 9:12:15 PM
So we are playing the catch up game now? Waiting all season to get back to first episode? Or are we dreaming? I am almost confused...I think be must be dreaming while in coma or something...or did I miss so much? III&FH
3/19/2006 9:12:18 PM
