I was just at Best Buy; they had NBA 2k6 on display on the Xbox 360.I was surprised at how the graphics didn't look any better than the other systems. Still jagged edges everywhere, none of the sweat effects they've been hyping.
11/22/2005 7:40:45 PM
^^^ this is quite possibly the funniest thing i have ever heard.[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 8:22 PM. Reason : but from the sound of his returns policy they could get the money back]
11/22/2005 8:18:18 PM
DaveOT:If they had it on that giant, multi-panel display, it wasnt in HD
11/22/2005 9:07:33 PM
^^ Shame isn't it? I think anyone dumb enough to bid up like that without reading deserve to be out 5000 bucks.
11/22/2005 9:18:30 PM
so did anyone who buy one have any of the supposed defects that are popping up all over the xbox boards?
11/22/2005 9:21:50 PM
Hahaha, I would never buy something that fell this short on production quotas first round. That's almost always indicitive of large numbers of defects.
11/22/2005 9:23:13 PM
It didn't "fall short" of production, they fucking did it on purpose to send demand sky high
11/22/2005 10:04:05 PM
11/22/2005 10:17:51 PM
im sure a week before xmas every store will have 100 of each system.
11/22/2005 10:28:30 PM
^nope... not a chance
11/22/2005 10:37:51 PM
look how mad everyone is that didnt get one. i bet they want one now...
11/22/2005 10:43:02 PM
11/22/2005 10:44:19 PM
we'll see, but i bet there'll be a HUGE shipment at least.[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 10:45 PM. Reason : and im sure another huge one right after to pickup pissed-off kid demographic]
11/22/2005 10:44:46 PM
think about it...if they DON'T have a big shipment soon...people will get pissed at microsoft and just wait it out for a ps3...that's what i'm gonna do...i refuse to pay a penny more than retail and if that won't happen, i'll just wait for ps3
11/22/2005 10:47:24 PM
ps3 is gonna rape this shit
11/22/2005 10:49:10 PM
ps3 is so far away that xbox has plenty of timethe next shipment will again be about half the size it needs to bethey'll finally get out a good amount in jan/feb
11/22/2005 10:50:45 PM
does ps3 have a specified release date? i know they said spring, but if its early spring then moody could very well be right. right before and right after xmas makes perfect marketing sense as far as im concerned. still wont fill out all the demand, but enough to really rake in the bucks.
11/22/2005 11:08:50 PM
except that they don't make any more money by selling out. its not like Microsoft sees a dime of the mark up over retail that ebay sellers are getting. I will admit that it is a good publicity stunt.
11/23/2005 12:03:23 AM
11/23/2005 12:16:57 AM
it doesnt matter. Come about two weeks this will settle - anyone will be able to pick up one. They held back alot of the units in a stunt and the game lineup would have not changed some people have no patience and HAVE to have the next best thing.
11/23/2005 8:27:16 AM
I heard on the radio this morning that some radio station out in California, for a "stunt", sent one of their employees to stand in line. He was the first one in line and after getting the 360, he took it outside and smashed it against the pavement in front of everyone. A few people started crying.

11/23/2005 9:40:39 AM
do we know that they were just incapable or were doing it on purpose though? its quite possible they just didnt do the math right or their factories sucked balls at meeting demand. as someone else said they dont make money just hyping it and never supplying when other systems are on the horizon. a little hype is good, too much just causes disinterest.plus the first one came out in september (correct?) so they could do that for a few months. if you miss the xmas market by 2-3 months less people will buy it, pissed off kids or not.
11/23/2005 10:09:49 AM
apparently some of the 360s are a bit unstable...http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/11/23/138200&from=rss
11/23/2005 10:24:03 AM
^^The only treason that I can come up with as to why they would do it on purpose is for the free advertising. I have not seen one commercial (no cable TV). I don't see that as a valid reason. People will know the system is out even without a shortage with high demand. Plus the amount of money spent on advertising would probably be less that the extra profit they would have made if they just met demand. If they were doing it on purpose you would think they would be charging $1000 per system for the few they gave each store on opening week, then drop the price back to $400 when they planned to open the flood gates.I wouldn't guess that they didn't do the math right either. Recent history has shown that a new console release never meets demand. They could have easily taken any estimate they came up with and multiplied it by 10 and there would still be a shortage. My guess is that the factories making the things couldn't keep up. They wanted to get this thing released by christmas. That gives the factories a deadline. They can only make but so many per day.[Edited on November 23, 2005 at 10:25 AM. Reason : ^^]

11/23/2005 11:12:43 AM
Is EB Games taking preorders on the next shipment or anything???? or anywhere else?
11/23/2005 11:50:31 AM
^^It's not out the ass. It's called having a clue what I'm talking about before speaking. You should try it out sometime, it's kinda cool.
11/23/2005 11:56:01 AM
He's right...don't expect to find a system available when you casually step into Target or something like that. Unless you luck up and stroll in when the stockguys are putting them up on the shelves or something, you probably won't come across one.I remember way back when the N64 came out. I never did find it in stores. My parents had picked one up on Black Friday. But as a little kid, I would run to the electronics section and I never came across one. Suffice to say I was really surprised and incredibly happy when there was one for me when Christmas rolled around.I can remember the same thing with the PS2. We've never been so hardcore about video games that we had to pre-order and all that good stuff. We'd just wait for it to show up. Well, I didn't start to see systems until after January. And I didn't even get my system til February (waited longer to get 20% off at the time)Looking back at this, I only wish that I took out a loan for five grand and bought 12 360's to sell on Ebay. Talk about a Merry Christmas to me.But yeah, as much as it sounds like a "ploy" by Microsoft to increase demand (not that there was much worry for that in the first place) I think they simply couldn't produce enough and are using a ploy for a front for the fact that they're short on production.I could care less, I'm not getting a 360 until Jan/Feb anyway.
11/23/2005 12:31:40 PM
I picked my PS2 up Causally. Just was sitting in the Target cabinet like two weeks after launch

Nacho, you really like to take this board personal with your purchases eh? Like to feel like you are on top of the technology curve big guy?OK maybe not ANY dumbass will be able to waltz into sam's club for one, but most tech savvy people will be able to find a system for themselves with little effort. It will most likely require a little legwork online, but it will be pretty easy i'd imagine. Thats assuming you'd even want to at this stage in the game...And how can i put my money where my mouth is if im not going to buy one til they have a decent lineup? pls fall back in line like the power, money-spending lemming gamer you are..
11/23/2005 3:57:34 PM
^what are you talking about? you cant find 1 in stock anywhere right now. youll only get it on ebay. take 5 mins to find a place cause you said its easy to find one.
11/23/2005 4:09:31 PM
Yeah, and if they keep shipping short of their allotments by 80% you'll have to do a little more than a little legwork to get one.One would suspect this shortfall is just temporary, but complaints about stability at default settings in single and multiplayer suggests bigger problems:http://games.slashdot.org/games/05/11/23/138200.shtml?tid=128&tid=211&tid=10So are people paying upwards of 2000 bucks for a lemon? Nintndo fanboi is a stupid term considering I've sunk more time in to sony hardware + 3rd party support. Gamecube didnt work out, but yes, I love the DS...sue me.And yes I've done my research, I'm a fucking regular at shacknews, hardOCP, and CAD vg deals forums daily. You CANT visit those places and not be informed ok?And in my original statement I never said a word about walking to any store, instead I said, having the ability to 'pick one up'. I still think this is true and will be true leading up to Xmas once this silly fucking hype wears off. That being said it's moot personally, I ain't touching one til Oblivion or the 2nd revision of hardware comes out. And that's banking on the fact that I havent gotten my PC up to spec to outrun the Xbox for Oblivion, if the xbox can't pump out frames per second on par with COD2 to hell with it. Also, disturbing number of freezing, stuttering, HDD issues (wtf 13 gigs?) and otherwise bad hardware issues I'm hearing. Definitely waiting on the second wave to avoid getting *THOMPSON'D*

http://www.brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=367478In case you didn't see the thread in chit chat, there is a video of some guy smashing an XBX 360 right outside Best Buy after buying. I'm not sure if it is the same people was talking about in my previous thread but it was still pretty funny. Lots of open mouthed nerds.
11/24/2005 11:39:59 AM
Best Buy or some other retailer should have kept one xbox360 in stock for tomorrow. Advertising as 1 per store. The chaos would be hilarious.
11/24/2005 12:01:15 PM
Did the bookstore have any?
11/25/2005 10:22:49 PM
bookstore got screwed and did not receive their alottment.
