No, it means you like to go fast and have luxury And there's no such thing as a SL500 AMG either. You've got the SL500, SL55 AMG, SL600, and SL65 AMG. (excluding the SL500) These cars are great choices for someone that wants a gorgeous car (one of the most beautiful on the market right now imo) that is fast as balls, has great luxury, good resale value, AND has a retractable hardtop.

So yeah, get a CLK or the like...

k, so we drove a 911 carrera s on saturday. first off, i have to say that if we do decide to purchase one, it won't be from the baton rouge dealer. rudest bunch of people i have ever seen. i guess we looked to "young" to be able to afford one... anyway, my husband liked it quite a bit. we might check around for a couple year old turbo just to see what the difference is and if it is worth it. personanally i thought it rode pretty badly but then our roads suck big time. the acceleration and handling were impressive i will definitely admit. hmmm next weekend, i think mercedes.

if I am going to pay 100k for a car i better not see another one every time i go downtown

[Edited on October 31, 2005 at 12:43 PM. Reason : and the car is still built by amg even if the badge doesn't say it.]

if that matters at all, well, don't you think you might be looking at the wrong types of cars?

^I'm sure some of the Mercedes still might be alright.

I hope she doesn't give up on that Z06 before test driving it either.

^^no i realize that any sports car will be a much stiffer ride than a sedan. but my best friend has a corvette and it honestly doesn't ride that badly at all.

^no worries there. it is probably my favorite of the ones i listed (my husband likes the porsche). i think we'll test a z06 when we get back from vacation.

edit - as far as originality goes, whether or not i see other ones on the road doesn't matter to me. it just means we all have good taste.

as much as I like the idea of the power in a z06, there is no way I would ever buy one, especially if I wanted to talk about good taste. That's the kind of car billy bob and sue ellen buy while they live in their double wide. Might as well get a 1988 IROC-Z with t-tops and blast the REO

^not quite but i know what you mean...there are really just too many of them on the road driven by old farts these days. Oh well

[Edited on October 31, 2005 at 2:30 PM. Reason : i wouldnt drive or buy one after i was like 25-30 years old]

Again, don't get me wrong, they've got more power than anyone could ever ask for....and the new z06's have a much better interior than the last model, but it's still a far cry from what I would want for 70k. nothing screamed piece of shit car more than the old gearshift knob in the previous model...it was the size of a christmas ham and looked like asshole

right, because when I plunk down 60-70k, I should have to worry about buying a new shifter....it's just a small example of the reasons why I wouldn't buy a vette....if they can't even give you a good shift knob, why waste the money?

its hardly a 'waste', although they could definetly spend a little more in the right places to make it a much more appealing car--the shifter being one of those areas. IMO, the leather is another...the factory leather is cheap as hell and plastic like feeling. Some of the plastic interior could be re-done or at least made to fit better, the fuel gauge issues could be fixed, blah blah blah. I've said all this 100 times, you get the idea... I can't see buying a corvette new, they just lose their value way too quickly seeing how I picked mine up for $14K, although it isn't a Z06 and is high mileage.

^ i agree a z06 is the car to buy if you want a ton of performance and don't really mind the lack of sophistication (does the c6 still have the fiberglass leafspring)

the entire car is like that
its more the car for jeff gordon than james bond

'Fraid not. The SL500 is, amazingly enough, built (entirely) by Mercedes and uses the same 5.0 liter V8 as all other regular Mercedes models with that engine. If you haven't noticed there isn't that much special about that engine.

Show me another 469 (underrated) hp hardtop convertible with that kind of luxury and beauty. PERHAPS that is why its so popular (talking about the SL55 AMG here) Sure its a little unfortunate that it looks so simliar to the SL500, but there's your sleeper status.

Personally I'd probably get a 911 Carrera S b/c I like to shift for myself and I've been a lifelong 911 fan, but to me the Benz is drop dead gorgeous and I'd at least check it out.

wait, so if i buy a car BECAUSE i like it, and just because there are others like that on the road, it means that i can't think for myself?

no, that's called as knowing what you want.

which is the exact opposite of not thinking for oneself.

and you pwn yourself by saying that she should get the 911 turbo JUST BECAUSE they are rare, just to be different, not because it is a great car or something!

jesus, getting a car BECAUSE it is rare... talk about not thinking for oneself!

Z06 and have ~$30k left over to transform it into something that just might be capable of scaring me. Those cars have been making ~440rwhp stock, and around 480-490 with just a cold air kit, headers, exhaust, and a dyno tune. That's a car that will run 130+ in the 1/4, stop and corner with the world's best exotics, and have damn near impeccable street manners for under $100k.

"wow, just wow...

how spoiled (or rich) does one have to be to complain about that AND TO SELL A HOT CAR BECAUSE OF THAT?

i will bet my life that even bill gates (or any other mega-rich person) wouldn't complain about that, let alone sell one of his hot cars because of that.

I would love to own a Maybach one day and then post this on a Maybach-owners' forum:

Yeah I owned a Maybach for 5 days.

I sold it and got a Phantom.

That bitch was good. I was spending so much time inside it on the reclining chairs that my wife thought I was having an affair. And then the rainy season started. The damn car doesn't come with umbrellas inside the doors!!! Any one know WTF is up with that???"

how much of an idiot does one have to be to assume that i sold the car b/c i wasn't happy with ONE aspect of the car?

to all the genius' thinking that i'm spoiled, i sell cars.

i was just pointing out how silly it was that in an expensive car such as the 911 C S, that the fuel door didn't have a lock. i wouldn't want billy bob terrorist putting shit into my tank, and i'm guessing neither would you.
