octavio is only good in the eighth inning, so for anyones sake who is looking at him, i hope youre looking for him as the setup guy.also, lidge-dotel-wagner = best 7-8-9 combo ever. we wouldnt have lost the series with them.

LookingNothing more. Beane would want a ton for him and I doubt it's anything more then a look. Anyway, how can you fault a GM for looking at every available option to try and improve the team? Most fans would kill for a GM like that. They still aren't even going to top last years payroll of $105M.[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 3:27 PM. Reason : f]

oh i can't fault a GM for going after talent the way minaya is, i just dislike the fact that large market teams can practically buy a championship nowadaysi'm a fan of homegrown talent, and while the mets have done that to an extent, their definetly having a balls to the wall, yankee-esque offseasonand i don't know that beane would have an outrageous asking price for zitothe braves got hudson for a few iffy prospects that haven't panned out at all. i don't know a thing about the mets farm system, but a couple prospects and a big bat should get things done. especially after the A's signed loaiza, they're loaded with starters[Edited on November 29, 2005 at 3:36 PM. a writing source of mine just told me Kyle Farnsworth has signed with the yankees for 3 years and 17 mil.
11/29/2005 7:48:04 PM
Abraham Nunez left the Cardinals and signed with the Phillies. He was a good player shoulda kept I thought.
11/30/2005 12:04:17 AM
Here is some Cardinals news!Nov 30 - The Cardinals likely will have another position to fill. Second baseman Mark Grudzielanek has received offers from several clubs, and the Mets are the leading contender, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
11/30/2005 11:34:32 AM
I hope Grudz doesn't leave because they have already lost Nunez and Hector Luna is not the answer I don't think. They need to just bring back Bo Hart.
11/30/2005 12:14:06 PM
well forget that last post about raffy, the cubs seem to have a much better offer on the tablefrom the AJC:
11/30/2005 2:42:50 PM
Konerko resigned with the Chi Sox
11/30/2005 4:48:40 PM
Brian Giles resigned with San Diego on a 3-year-deal.

I read Toronto offered him a lot more but he wanted to stay at home..
12/1/2005 3:28:41 PM
hey NyM410, what do you think about that rumored Abreu for Manny deal? I don't think it'll ever happen but its an interesting trade to think about
12/1/2005 3:40:24 PM
Yankees get farnsworth. 3 years 17 mil.yankees will now let flash sign with philly, to get back the draft pick they lost when they signed Kyle
12/1/2005 4:21:45 PM
What the fuck.MSG reports a deal is officially done sending Kris Benson to the Orioles for Jorge Julio. What the fuck Omar. This is a HORRIBLE trade.. jesus christ.
12/1/2005 7:19:01 PM
^yeah, that is awful
12/1/2005 7:49:02 PM
Listen people, I have been trying to tell you that Minaya is NOT a good GM... he left the expos farm system dry and now he is overspending in NY, he has no discretion... ask yourself something... Omar signed Benson to an absurd contract and now he is trying to dump that contract in less than a year. WTF?
12/1/2005 8:32:16 PM
^ the deal didn't go down. MSG misreported it. It isn't going to happen at all now. Stupid MSG.. Also, you have to remember when Omar was GM in Montreal everyone and their mother thought that the team wasn't going to be around (contraction anyone). He HAD to have a win now mentality. I've been thrilled with Omar. He is working in a confined budget and the payroll will be the same as next year despite the VAST increase in available funds via Sportsnet NY.. the Wilpon owned 'Mets network.'Anyway. This site is from a Mets fan but it is a GREAT source for all rumors. The guy has connections throughout baseball and I get all my information through it pretty much. He posts almost every Olney, Kjirkjian, Gammons report that is found and always has some pretty good insights from around the league. i doubt they mets get manny, and i prefer they keep milledge, but just look at the lineup if he somehow found his way to flushing1Reyes2Beltran3Manny4Delgado5Wright6Floyd7Diaz/Nady8Hernandez/Molina or whoever they sign to catchIf Beltran improved at all on his 2005 numbers, that 2-6 stretch would be the toughest in baseballEven without ManRam, a combo of Wright, Cliff and the Carlos boys has to rank among the toughest in the league, trailing only the foursomes of Pujols/Edmonds/Rolen/Sanders in St Louis and Jeter/Arod/Sheffiled/Giambi across townWatch out for the Rangers. With Texiera/Blaylock/Soriano/Young, theyre right up there too, and by far the youngest

Dodgers reportedly offering Furcal a 3 year/$39 Million deal.

doubt that'll get it donehe's looking for 5 years
12/3/2005 5:36:45 PM
thats what i figure 2. guess the dodgers felt like the $13 MIL per year would sway him over the 5 year/10 mil per contracts the cub offered.

this has been the offseason of big names moving.
12/4/2005 11:15:22 PM
^^ It's just Gaby Hernandez. I'm not too worried about it with Pelfry going to be signed and Humber still on the roster coming back from TJ. Those two are still higher prospects then Gaby..Plus we get to keep the first round draft pick FWIWA.J. Burnett will sign a 5-year deal with the Cardinals later this week...
12/5/2005 8:20:14 AM
Also. The Mets will likely sign Mark Grudzielanek to play 2B on Thursday. He has said that he will wait until then to sign so the arbitration hearing period is over and the Mets won't lose a second round draft pick.My sense of it is that Vazquez/Zito will be the final piece of the puzzle this offseason. The Red Sox have also said they will trade Manny Ramirez hopefully by Thursday. Personally, I'm not buying into that. I have a suspicion he will be in RF in front of the Monster again next year. I can't imagine the Angels or Rangers taking him up on it and Omar Minaya seems deadset AGAINST giving up Lastings Milledge and/or Aaron Heilman -- who would be the centerpiece to any impending deal

Latest rumorsSan Diego and NYY both in discussions with Nomar. Yankees offer Damon 3 years/ 39 milFrank Thomas meets with Minnesota
12/5/2005 3:59:44 PM
Is Nomar considering moving to the outfield?Or would he move to second to cover if they trade Cano to Fla. for Pierre?Basically, how many shortstops do we need? Why would the Yankees go after Nomar?
12/5/2005 7:18:34 PM
nomar has said he would play thirdi don't get it though, the yankee's left side of the infield is pretty crowded
12/5/2005 7:37:50 PM
12/5/2005 7:38:01 PM
^^ yeah, I've heard the thing about moving to third, but that doesn't help the Yankees. They have two gold glovers on that side of the infield. And that doesn't fit with Cashman's re-emphasis of non-overpriced veterans of this year.
12/5/2005 8:12:50 PM
who is NYY's DH? why not move a-rod to DH, put nomar at 3rd
12/5/2005 9:42:48 PM
Move a gold-glover to DH?
12/5/2005 9:50:02 PM
Well, the DH was shuffled among Giambi, Williams, Sheffield and Matsui. Giambi and Bernie were the two most frequent DHs. With Williams probably on the way out and Tino not resigned, who knows.I mean who knows. I don't know how viable this rumor is at all. It's not being reported on ESPN.com or SI.com. It may be up in NY/NJ, but I'm in SC and don't know for sure. It just doesn't fit with what Cashman and Torre said the aim was for this offseason.
12/5/2005 9:50:43 PM
^it was on michael kay's radio show and on mike and the mad dog.No way do they put nomar at 3rd over A-Rod. Arod is way better. This will be the 2006 lineupcf. damonss. jeter3b. a-rodrf. sheffieldlf matsui1b giambidh nomarc posada2b cano1,000 runs without breakin a sweat.
