yeah but that was in the book as well
11/20/2005 10:24:18 PM
didn't like it, worst movie of all of them, that's that
11/20/2005 10:53:51 PM
Overall it was pretty good I think. yes the acting did suck from time to time but the special effects were quite amazing. This one was very funny in my opinion not childish funny like the other 3.
11/20/2005 11:20:53 PM
My god was I disappointed. WAAAYYY too rushed. Another 30 minutes could have done wonders for this film. I felt like it was just trying to show me the highlights of the book without even building up properly for any of them or putting them into a coherent context. Dumbledore seemed entirely too uptight and angry for most of the movie and from what i remember. And i agree about Krum being miscast, his face wasnt pointy enough. Id probably give the movie 2 out of 4 stars. I still say PoA was the best film of the series. Looking back, it was my 3rd fav movie from 04 (behind Sideways and ESotSM).

I don't really remember anything major that they added in for the movie. Then again I read the book a LONG time ago when it first came out. What did they add?
11/21/2005 2:52:00 AM
11/21/2005 9:01:36 AM
you know that was done on purpose right?
11/21/2005 11:29:33 AM
I was completely dissapointed. Dumbledore sucks now. They changed too much, and left everything else out.
11/21/2005 11:33:13 AM
I haven't read the book in a long time, what major things did they change? I know they left out a lot of subplots such as Rita being an Animagus, but I didn't notice anything that was added. I can forgive them for having Neville give the gillyweed to Harry, because Dobby wasn't in the movie at all. There are enough WTF moments in the movie without adding another one. ]
11/21/2005 11:45:05 AM
dobby wasnt in the movie either
11/21/2005 2:45:28 PM
The things they left out were left out relatively well, though. Rita being an animagus would've been pointless. They never indicated she knew more than she should've.The Hagrid/Lady from Durmstrang relationship wasn't handled well at all, considering their relationship is crucial to Phoenix. SPEW was left out, thank god. A pointless subplot I found useless and annoying in this book. As far as Dumbledore is concerned. I think he was overly angry in this movie. In the book, he was a bit angry towards Harry about his name in the goblet, but iirc he never burst in the room and shook him by his shoulders. The new Dumbledore is poorly cast, for sure. But I guess we were spoiled with the best actor for the part the first two movies. I think these were my only concerns with this movie compared to the others.I do believe Phoenix should be split up, or something. Far too much information is in that book to leave out chunks. The most useful (and longest) book of the series.
11/21/2005 2:55:22 PM
Rita being an animagus is important for the blackmail she's put under later.Harry never got any prize money for winning the triwizard tournament so Fred & George will have to find some other source of funding for their joke shop and the shenanigans that undermine Umbridge's authority all through OotP.^ Madame Maxime was the headmistress of Beauxbatons. They awkwardly tried to handle their relationship with a snippet of their actual conversation that turned ghastly because Olympe is in complete denial about her giant heritage.Myrtle's nasty flirtation, the excessive BS in the first task, -- they could've cut that out (and two minute views of lifeless scenery) and extended the Quidditch world cup or smooth out the rest of the movie. Or at least pull a Star Wars III and throw in a bunch of Instant Loose End Twisty Ties so the NEXT movie will be coherent.[Edited on November 21, 2005 at 9:04 PM. Reason : ^]

yea its true. details definitely got left out, and details are what make the book better than the movie for sure. but i think given the fact that they put it all in one movie and tried to keep it a respectable length, that they did a pretty good job with it. i would've liked to have seen some of the quidditch world cup though (i know its not a necessity, but the quidditch action feels like a consistent factor in the movies, and since there was no quidditch at hogwarts that year, the cup was our only chance )

It would've taken 5 hours to do the book justice.I liked it only because it highlighted areas of the book. As a stand alone move, it wasnt that great.and yeah, there were quite a few WTF moments for me as well.
11/22/2005 8:39:49 AM
The movie did have a "Rowling's Greatest Hits" feeling to it.It's like, wooooo look at all this cool stuff, with very little explanation as to how or why it happensomg, check out those dragons!

11/22/2005 9:11:45 AM
Did I mention Ralph Feinnes kicked ass?
11/22/2005 11:13:21 AM
Voldemort kicked ass. The rest of the movie was aight, but I expected a lot more.
11/22/2005 1:55:10 PM
^i agree, i expected more after how good the 3rd movie was.
11/22/2005 1:57:32 PM
11/22/2005 2:09:35 PM
It'll take all of 2 minutes to explain that at the beginnin of OotP

^ Or that

just saw it, AWESOMEmy favorite movie out of all of them. i thought they did an awesome job.
11/22/2005 5:31:21 PM
Just got in from movie, and it was great. Yes, it was a lil rushed and 20-30 minutes would have done wonders for the movie as everyone has said. Loved the Champions being called and HP not wanting to go up to the table. Really thought the movie was great, and well done for a rushed movie III&FH...A???
11/23/2005 2:11:08 AM
Ok, so I've seen the movie...err more than once What is with the scene when Igor Karkaroff goes into room with the Goblet of Fire in the movie? Isn't it Mad-Eye who puts Harry's name into the GOF?
11/30/2005 12:57:05 AM
Should've been two movies.
11/30/2005 1:04:42 AM
^^i would like to know if other people have noticed this or not
11/30/2005 1:57:47 AM
well they changed plenty of things. maybe they thought mad eye goin in would be too suspicious.
11/30/2005 2:17:46 AM
Good point, what the fuck is Karkaroff doing?
11/30/2005 2:24:53 AM
i don't know!!! thought i ask/discuss it...I mean, I haven't read the book in a while...is there something in there that karkaroff was in there for?
11/30/2005 2:26:43 AM
man, what is the explanation?
11/30/2005 3:22:39 AM
i just figured it was the same guy using a different shapeshifter potion, or is that not allowed
11/30/2005 7:32:39 AM
To concoct the polyjuice potion, you have to have a piece of the person (like a hair) that you are going to turn into.In the book, Barty Crouch Jr. ambushes Mad-eye on his way to hogwarts, stuffs him in the chest, and uses his hairs for the polyjuice potion...They probably showed Igor going into the room to throw people off (who hadn't read the book)..b/c he does look suspicious....The first time I read the book I thought it would be Igor who put his name in the goblet, especially when we found out he was a deatheater....[Edited on November 30, 2005 at 9:12 AM. Reason : yes]
11/30/2005 9:10:17 AM
I kind of thought it was poly juice. III&FH
11/30/2005 1:53:45 PM
that seems like an unnecessary addition to the film. i don't think anyone who hadn't read the book would suspect mad-eye regardless, especially since that igor guy is portrayed as so sinister throughout the movie
11/30/2005 4:21:03 PM
leaving out the death eater coming to hogwarts to finish off crouch jr was bad. its a pretty big point in th book, since it basically divides the ministry and dumbuldore/order of the pheonix and starts "the war".
11/30/2005 5:42:36 PM
well i'm sure they'll address that in OotP. probably had too much on their plate and just said "screw it, we'll set it up at the beginning of 5."
11/30/2005 5:48:35 PM
^^you mean the dementor...and yeah..i loved the part in the book where Dumbledore dispatched the members of the Phoenix to do errands and round up "the old crew"
11/30/2005 6:23:07 PM
hm...maybe for those who hadn't read the book and saw the movie, probably suspected Igor to put Harry's name in the GOF...but, for those who read the book, knew that it was Mad-Eye...I just thought of this now...
