AWESOME!I love the GC controller, and the Xbox one.But I absolutely CANNOT function with a PS2 controller. I hate 4 buttons on top, I hate the ghey D-pad where the analog stick should be. It's just terrible IMO.
9/17/2005 1:54:41 AM
really though, this setup is best for the FPSthe mouse is on a flat plane, it uses 2d cartesian coordinates for lookingbut the pointer way of looking uses 3 variable spherical coordinate system for looking, which is much closer to the way you actually lookyou have your Pitch, Yaw, and Roll, just like your neck does, and maybe some translation in the x and y (just like leaning or pushing your neck forward) wheras with the mouse, its just translation in the x and y. its superior. its way superior. one question..... how do you do a 360 turn? not like you can pick the remote up and move it like you do a mouse to keep going to the left or right[Edited on September 17, 2005 at 2:41 AM. Reason : s]
9/17/2005 2:40:47 AM
I think maybe turning is done by rolling the controller, and looking is done by pitch and yaw? And walking/sidestepping is done with the other analog stick side.
9/17/2005 2:42:12 AM
yeah but i mean like with mouselook on in a FPS to do a 360 degree turn you move your mouse over to the right/left and when you get it as far as you can go you pick it up and move it back to center so you can keep moving it in that direction. You can't do that with this because moving it back to the opposite direction will make you turn that way, so unless you flip the controller in an actual circle you can't make a 360 degree turn without a way to turn the "remote-look" on/off easily.Though I'm sure nintendo has already figured this part out since it seems like a problem that would be foreseen early...... just curious to how they dealt with it[Edited on September 17, 2005 at 3:03 AM. Reason : d]
9/17/2005 3:01:27 AM
Rolling the controller to the right or left will turn you in either direction. So when you center the controller, you stop turning. Like if it was a joystick, rolling would be analogous to pushing the joystick in either direction.
9/17/2005 3:16:16 AM
^maybe.i think primarily the 3d mouse will be used for looking.

More mock ups:
9/17/2005 8:26:22 AM
now im not worried about controller issues, but i am worried about having to buy 10,000 diff accessories to be able to play the assortment of games i like. that shit could get expensive. hopefully htouh you can just use the regular controller for most and then have some nice innovative games for freestyle/nunchuck controllers.
9/17/2005 10:13:11 AM
I think this system is gonna be Nintendo's swan song.Oh well, it'll look nice next to my dreamcast and TGX 16.
9/17/2005 11:19:20 AM
it is pretty obvious that they just want to make more money but people buying a different attachment for each game.... that's the way i see it..i'll probably buy it just for zelda and metroid, etc...
9/17/2005 11:43:41 AM
hahahahathey've got a long way to go before they hit a "swan song"
9/17/2005 11:44:38 AM
i'm guessing that those attachments are pretty much not going to be required to play any game. they'll be nice to have but not required, though they may bundle them with games similar to what the did with Mario Party 6 and the mic
9/17/2005 11:47:44 AM
I really like the gun, that's got some potential right there
9/17/2005 11:49:40 AM
actually if you look at nintendo's history with "add-on's" they seem to like to bundle them with the games that require them, i.e. bongos, the memory expansion from back in the day. I have a feeling that IF they are a requirement, they'll just be packaged in with the games.
9/17/2005 12:08:02 PM
yeah but that usually raises the price of the game. bongos are an exception obviously since they arent too much extra, but you can only use um for 3 games (which is good to note why i hate accessories, despite my love of gun games).
9/17/2005 12:34:46 PM
the article on IGN says that you do not need the accessories to play all the games...you can still play the games with the controller add-on if you like the traditional controller feel.It will still retain the pointer and motion sensitivity, but you will have the controller feel just like traditional systems
9/17/2005 12:41:35 PM
I think traditionalists will change their tune quickly when they are getting their ass handed to them in FPS games by a 13yo with a motion sensitive gun.
9/17/2005 1:18:18 PM
i do wonder what will be superior
9/17/2005 1:27:11 PM
9/19/2005 9:11:48 AM
a lot of ppl, especially those that enjoy rythm games. some of us also like....gasp...variety
9/19/2005 9:32:34 AM
Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat is fucking addictive. Time passes really quickly when you play that game.
9/19/2005 9:40:03 AM
If it floats your boat.Maybe they will develop a giant oar that is only usable for one game that you can use to paddle down lake hyrule - you know - for variety sake.
9/19/2005 9:49:56 AM
i like how you ignored that i said ppl enjoy beat games. if you wanna cast doubt on the sales of DDR and like games, feel free to do so as well, but those games are enjoyable and very replayable.
9/19/2005 9:53:48 AM
I thought I acknowledged that in the 'if it floats your boat' comment. If you/others find it fun that is ok by me - I'm just letting everyone know that even if you think it is fun I'd rather you buy me something else for for christmas
9/19/2005 9:58:04 AM
^Did you not hear about the part that it is compatible with other controllers? The peripherals won't be required to play the game. You can play the games with normal controllers, it would just be more fun and interactive with the peripherals. Kinda like playing DDR with a PS2 controller -- Yeah it isn't as fun as with the dance pad, and probably is more difficult, but the more practice you get with it the better you will be at it.
9/19/2005 10:02:48 AM
^^ we will take your request into consideration, sir.[Edited on September 19, 2005 at 10:04 AM. Reason : s]
9/19/2005 10:04:28 AM
^^I wasn't aware you could get Donkey Konga w/o the drums. I really wouldn't want to get the game in the first place but is there a reason someone would want to play it w/o the drums? Just asking.I guess you can get 2 remotes for the new system and use them as drumsticks for virtual drums for the new system?[Edited on September 19, 2005 at 10:08 AM. Reason : ^]
9/19/2005 10:06:39 AM
so if you bought the drums seperately (or a chepaer 3rd party drum set) then you could get one of the 3 games it plays with. obviousy 99.9% of the ppl wouldnt buy it without any set of bongos.[Edited on September 19, 2005 at 10:16 AM. Reason : but yes you hypothetically could play without, but he was just using an example of peripheral use]
9/19/2005 10:15:25 AM
when will there be an in-store demo of this controller for me to play with??
9/19/2005 1:21:45 PM
I'm sure there will be one somewhere.
9/19/2005 1:24:07 PM
^^ The thing is, some people want more than one bongo controller and there are three different games that can be purchased with or without the controller. I have Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, with the controller, but if I bought Donkey Konga I would want to get it with the controller, too, so I could play two player. I have the option to not do that, though.
9/19/2005 1:26:01 PM
dangit i wonder how lonnngggg itll be before we can try this stuff out
9/19/2005 3:50:04 PM
a year, probably

i just realized how cool tiger woods golf will be with this thing..man, the more i think about the potential... the more i look forward to this thing..
9/22/2005 2:15:10 PM
don't think anyone's linked to this yet:http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050923-5344.html
9/24/2005 9:11:34 AM
sounds like someone with a dev kit is leaking specs
9/24/2005 10:13:05 AM
is it me or are the buttons on the steering wheel a bit low.. it looks like you have to put your hands at 8 and 4 o'clock.. which will definitely be uncomfortable and not a natural position for driving.. I would think the button/triggers should be around 10 and 2, so your palms would be resting at 9 and 3.
9/24/2005 10:21:10 AM
Well, that's not an actual controller, just a mock-up. If Nintendo puts out a steering wheel attachment, it'll probably be a lot more user-friendly.
9/24/2005 11:09:15 AM
anything about the mario yet?
9/24/2005 11:50:15 AM
he's going to be short, fat, probably wearing red, and will most likely have a mustache
9/24/2005 11:52:14 AM
DURRRRRR
9/24/2005 11:57:31 AM
I heard the next mario was supposed to be in drag.

A resident evil game designed for the gun would be sweeeeeet!!!!
9/27/2005 2:22:34 PM
The only bad thing about that shotgun would be your arms getting tired. I don't know if any of you ever played that arcade game "Crypt Killer" but it had a shotgun controller like that where you pumped the shotgun to reload. My arms got tired after playing for about 5 mins of holding it.
