Obviously you know the ins and out of the PSP. Why would you not buy it JUST because the company isn't trying to attract your demographic? Nintendo hasn't given adequate advertising to dozens of their products, but that doesn't stop me from buying them. And college students aren't necessarily the prime market for video games, especially the PSP. The system costs $250, which is more than any other notable portable in the past. Broke-ass college students (most of them anyway) aren't buying a system that costs $100 bucks more than the PS2 and Xbox just for portability. And you have to spend even more money to get extra functionality out of the thing (UMD movies, memory stick, etc.) Most analysts say the PSP target market is the young, gadget-obssessed professional, which makes a lot more sense, given they have money to burn on this thing.

translation: the psp's market is idiots with money to waste.
6/4/2005 12:53:29 AM
I'm not talking about buying the product. I could care less about if they market to me. I'm not buying one because Sony is going to give one to me.My point is I don't understand why Sony will not work with gaming stores or collegiate publications to market the PSP. I think more people would buy it if they read what their peers think or get to play it in a store rather than see some jackass talk about it on G4.It seems like the PSP is great but it is over priced. Unless Sony plans on dropping the price $100 very soon, it needs to consider pushing the product on an audience that will be more receptive to mobile game play. Sony needs to show these people why the PSP deserves a $250 price tag.

Jesus fucking christ. The PSP is a gorgeous unit that hands down blows the DS out of the water. I don't care how many weird Japanese fads Nintendo manages to shove down the throats of every 20 year old nerd that still thinks like a 9 year old queer. The screen, the movies, the hacks coming out for it, 2gb mem sticks. At best its an ubar hand held gaming system, at worst its an overpriced MP3 player. What the does the DS do? Oh right. Not a god damn thing.THE PSPHANDS DOWNPWNSTHE DS.END OF FUCKING DISCUSSION.

Motherfucking damn right./drunken post

An exploit was released today that lets you run homebrew code on American PSPs. It requires 2 memory cards, but it's amazingly simple to do. Currently I have 2,200 NES roms on my PSP link: http://www.only4.info/psp-dev/
6/16/2005 12:30:42 AM
why the fuck are all you dumbasses comparing the two- and getting angry and insulting about it! I dont want a psp and have a DS. That doesnt make me gay, it makes you a dickcheese.I'm (personally) not interested in having a rom library on a portable, i got it on my xbox. I am however interested in the GBA library and DS titles.the ds is great for gameplay and good solid games. If i want a 3d game, I'd just rather play a console or pc version thanks.
6/16/2005 12:44:30 AM
It's funny you brought up the GBA Library. Cause I can play all those games on my PSP too.[Edited on June 16, 2005 at 12:49 AM. Reason : for free! I think I'll go play Advance Wars 2 right now.]
6/16/2005 12:45:54 AM
i think to a certain extent paying a small fee for a game insures you will beat it. Ive warez'd everything under the sun and you get overburn from the amount of stuff you can play -- and you never do. If I have the urge I have everything rom'd on both xbox and pc (with sidewinders). Sometimes its fun to go for just small-scale gameplay- Each has its own way. I like the DS, not only for myself but b/c its the only damn video game system I can get my girl to play. So that in itself is a plus. But i understand why the psp would be attractive. what im trying to say is that they can both exist in the same world. Why nintendo and sony have to always vie is beyond me...i'll always buy both their consoles.
6/16/2005 3:13:04 AM
Hey that's fine. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. You're the one that came in here calling everyone dumbasses and dickcheeses. No need to get so hostile about it. Like I said before I have both and I've gotten waaaay more use out of my PSP. And now that you can easily run homebrewed software on it with no need for a modchip or tons of work, I guarantee I'll be using it all that much more. But if you and your girl like playing the DS, that's great for you. Really. But was all the name calling necessary?btttopic: Homebrew on PSP. Discuss.
6/16/2005 5:38:31 AM
I think I should have been more specific. That's my fault - I was referring to SandSanta's idiotic post
6/16/2005 11:38:35 AM
^^Well yeah, its a good thing you have a DS too cause once some better games come out (IE Metroid, Castlevania, Mario Kart) you won't be able to get it on your PSP (Emulate a touch screen?). btw, Goldeneye for the DS is awesome.
6/16/2005 11:42:23 AM
I might pick up a DS sooner than I originally planned. Most reviews are touting the new Kirby game as the first game to really make good use of the stylus.
6/16/2005 6:07:54 PM
I just picked it up. It's kinda fun, the little bit I've played so far.
6/16/2005 9:22:02 PM
yeah its good. Kinda frantic. But really awesome game - lots of replay value. I would agree with the reviews, its the first really good use of the stylus out there I think. I'm excited about Bomberman DS and Meteos in a week or two
6/16/2005 11:02:51 PM
just play wipeout with the view where you don't see the craft and you'll understand why I like psp.
6/16/2005 11:46:11 PM
thats good and all. but why not play xbox version of burnout OH AND I FIGURED OUT ANOTHER REASON I LIKE DS...and this is admittedly a shallow one, but when you are playing the DS, with the stylus and silver clam-shell look of it and all, you look like you are using a PDA or palm pilot to 80% of general population in airports in the like. It has good privacy to the screen, no one can see it but you.I always feel goofy using all my free time out in public to play an obvious hand held gaming system. I know thats really stupid but still.
6/17/2005 1:33:19 AM
I'm really not trying to start up another fight here, but I just can't understand ANYONE that puts down any of the handheld systems down because they're too much like a console. The whole point of having a handheld is that you can take it anywhere. For times when you don't have access to an xbox or ps2. Or for taking a power shit. Being able to reproduce the console experience anywhere is one of the coolest things about the PSP in my opinion. That's just like saying why would anyone go out and buy a laptop, when they can play all the same games on their desktop PC. And if you're trying to say that the DS is somehow better than the PSP because it isn't capable of producing games that look as spectacular as Wipeout....well that's just stupid. +1 for the PSP as far as I'm concerned.

^^^All the more reason why I wouldn't want the DS. I can understand the entertainment value of some simulator based games (flight and racing) but wtf is the point in having a pet simulator. You would have to be a very lonely and desperate person to result to having a video game pet. Wow. Also, theorically, everything done in the video could have been done with these things called buttons and a Dpad. Don't see anything so special about petting a stupid dog with a pen
6/17/2005 8:28:23 AM
^ It's not a pen it's a stylus LOL!
6/17/2005 9:14:51 AM
im not putting down the PSP b/c its like a console. I think that its awesome it has that power. I think my point is that I don't care for the breed of games that are coming out for it, which have already been CREATED on a console. I'm an old school gamer, PC game, and RPG fan. I would buy one if it had deeper games/gameplay - the only title I really wanna play currently in its launch are Lumines and Wipeout. That's not to say they'll have a killer app eventually. But right now i dont see it.I dont care about ps2 franchises GTA, sports titles, gran turismo type titles, splinter cell type stuff. To me most of those game franchises and ps2 lineups like it are all rehashes. In addition, I dont want involved 3d graphics and ps2 type games out of a portable - I never finish those games and they dont have replay value (imo) alot of the time - i want mainly 2d goodness and/or innovation. Thats ok to want a certain type of games to be portable
6/17/2005 10:45:36 AM
oh and why the hate on nintendogs. I think it looks really inventive. I was going to get my gf that for her birthday, she's all excited about it. Yeah its cutesy and ridiculous, but not all of us crave games that are GTA or something...b/c that crap is as boring as sin to me now.
6/17/2005 10:48:49 AM
I'm not interested in playing a portable game system, but if I had a choice I'd probably go with the PSP because I like the look, the games, and the features. Not to mention the satisfaction I have from owning a PSX, PSone, and a PS2. Sure, you could say "But what about when you travel?" I have 2 other portable devices, one's called a "laptop" and the other is called an "iPod". Those cater very nicely to my entertainment needs when I'm on the road. When I want to play video games, I want the best gaming experience ever. And you can't get that from a portable system.
6/17/2005 11:05:04 AM
Nintendogs doesn't really look entertaining to me, but it's one of the MOST creative thing to come out of the game industry (look at the way he threw that frisby) in the past 5 years (or maybe in the top 3). Nintendo has some other games coming out with a creative use of the touch screen. My point though for all the Nintendo haters is that the DS isn't just some lame gaming platform with crappy graphics. The graphics are pretty good, and the DS, as far as gameplay, is a more versatile system than the PSP (and it also has wireless networking, but Nintendo seems to like to ignore that). There both pretty decent platforms with advantages and disadvantages to each.[Edited on June 17, 2005 at 11:23 AM. Reason : 2]

Noen, you cant stand the fact that some people would rather play a DS and enjoy games that have more replay value than a PSP will ever have. It eats you up inside. Why you care that much, I dont know. How is that I say I prefer 2d games to the boring fucking drove of clunky 3d games out there being ignorant. ITS AN OPINION.If there is any ignorance right now, its you showing your ass, getting riled up, and and flaming DS users-- going nuts calling me a fanboy or talk about pokemon or 'jerking off to hentai' -- wtf is that? Ive never even watched or played anything pokemon in my life. Hentai too.Me thinks you need to sit down, relax, have a coke and shut the fuck up.[Edited on July 5, 2005 at 9:49 PM.
