I would suggest getting away from identical tone at least a little bit, so you don't wash each other out and lose definition.

i think im gonna agree with ^ on this onedueling guitar tones can sound awesome when done rightbut whatever works for ya, man [Edited on July 16, 2005 at 6:56 PM. Reason : .]
7/16/2005 6:53:37 PM
i hear ya. maybe its not that they sound identical but that they just meshed extremely well. our tones didnt match as well before. it was def the best we've ever sounded together[Edited on July 16, 2005 at 8:00 PM. Reason : ]
7/16/2005 7:59:58 PM
Word. Meshing well is teh awesome. When you said identical tone, I immediately though of identical frequencies smashing into one another and ending up with a big wash.

^^ yea i hear ya and can definitely understand you on that one. Thats actually the reason i decided to not sell my peavey5150. i was going to sell that and get a mesa to match my other guitar player but i decided i didnt want to have the same exact setup.^ i dont know much about basses but i love me some ibanez geetars
7/17/2005 12:54:17 PM
^^thats a fuckin sweet ass rig, mani've played that SWR and i gotta say it really brings out the best in my T-40...such thick toneand ibanez basses are pretty fuckin awesome too, IMO. i've never payed one i didnt like. the bassist from Scapegoat plays a six string ibaenez BTB which is one of the best sounding basses i've ever laid my hands on, and the neck is wide but comfy as hell
7/18/2005 12:03:36 AM
i just got an ol Ampeg VT-40 bass head. anyone intersted in buying some real all tube goodness? it was once part of a 4x10" combo but the speaks were cut off to make it a head. probably a good idea as this thing weighs a shit ton a it is.[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 11:14 AM. Reason : adfdf]

Ibanez s540I really need a new amp though.
7/18/2005 12:11:46 PM
^^tell me more about that amp, yoim all about some vintage gear
7/18/2005 1:40:45 PM
its pretty sweet. made in teh early '70s. 2 channel w/ 3 band EQ. the mid band has 3way frequency switch. it uses 2 7027A (high power 6L6) power tubes in pushpull so its about a 60watt design. has a pretty wild 7 preamp tube preamp. one channel has a distortion knob which is kind of cool to add some dirt on top (not high gain crazy or anything). it could probably use new power tubes, but it plays fine as it is. ill post some pics later on if you want.oh and it has real deal spring reverb too[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 1:56 PM. ^^^^^^ Thanks dude. Played my first show with it this weekend, and it did great. There's no substitute for raw power . I've always played Ibanez basses. There might be more expensive basses out there, but you can't beat the playability and tone they have at anywhere near that price.
7/18/2005 5:25:25 PM
why do you use two of the same bass?Ibanez does have good basses, I like my GSR200, but I can't think of a reason to get another, I mean you can only play one at a time.

^^^^ We play in two different tunings, so I need a bass for each on stage. I just like SR800's, so I got another one to keep it simple.
7/18/2005 6:31:08 PM
I'd just tune it low and buy one of those little clip thingies. But I never play my bass live, so I guess I don't really get to see how convient it is
7/18/2005 6:43:57 PM
you mean a capo?i didnt think they made any that could fit a bass neck
7/19/2005 12:06:52 AM
yeah a capo, I'm sure someone makes them, if they make like 32 string bass guitars I'm sure they make a little clip.but I really don't know much about it, I keep mine at EADG
7/19/2005 12:50:24 AM
same here, but Drop D (DADG) is fun to rock out insince i use such thick strings, i can actually tune my bass down to BEAD without them being too floppy...and when i do that, my T-40 fuckin growls like you wouldnt believe
7/19/2005 1:04:13 AM
i've been playing this amp more and more after i cleaned/fixed it up some and its pretty awesome. i also read up on it and its what the rolling stones used, cool. i'm gonna keep it for awhile

you could still take some pics, dude

really into the idea of using a rig like that in a living room on a daily basis.anybody got any thoughts on running a small guitar amp (i'm thinking a peavey classic 20 or something like a champ, but hopefully a little cheaper) through a roland kc 550? i'm tired of carrying around a twin and the roland (for keys). it would be great to sit the little guy on top of the keyboard amp and have it sound good and be loud enough.
7/19/2013 4:10:16 PM
Do you mean run a preamp out from the little amp into the KC? If you wanna do that I'd just get a Sansamp and dispense with the guitar amp altogether. With that said, I'd think that with the purity and range of the specific key tones you guys use, they would eat up most of the guitar signal on the way through the speaker cone.
7/19/2013 4:16:36 PM
yeah. i was just didn't want to lose the tube tone. was also thinking of trying one of those epiphone valve jr things, but those are pretty limited. guitar and keys wouldn't be played at the same time, so i wouldn't think there'd be any issue with signals fighting each other.
7/20/2013 1:26:46 PM
The problem is that there's no easy way to get the signal out of the power amp of a small combo in a way that'll work into the line inputs of the KC. A Classic 20 might have a preamp out, but then you're just getting preamp tube tone, not power tube tone, and that's the kind of thing you can get in a pedal.
7/20/2013 1:43:26 PM
very cool, mon. you know anybody who has one i could borrow to try out?
