Stat heads just don't get it.

you know if someone makes a seperate thread about the no-no that mussina has going, the tww jinx will take effect
10/12/2004 9:51:00 PM
There's more to baseball than just stats.
10/12/2004 9:51:18 PM
See now you just fucked yourself:
10/12/2004 9:51:19 PM
At least this gay ass argument is taking focus off the game
10/12/2004 9:51:48 PM
i agree, the stats are not outstanding and definately not worthy of the worship he gets. 315 avg is good and so is a 385 obp but a 463 obp is not really something to brag about. The hype is way to much.
10/12/2004 9:51:51 PM
guess several of you didnt look at the link for stats this year, IF you did you would see that Tejada is Hall of Fame status, Jeter is no where near his levelwhat a pecker head Rally Durham, I guess you kinda skipped over the whole "this year" part of that comment, that makes a big difference, and if you want to talk about career, we can do that, its kinda funny that tejada has played less years in MLB, plays in an inferior lineup, and somehow you forgot to put in all the power stats like HR's, RBI's, etc., give tejada 10 more years and we will talk. Also how many MVP's has Jeter won compared to Tejada?
10/12/2004 9:55:13 PM
jeter has been pretty consistent around his career stats thorughout his career but tejada has not been good in his early career and therefore his career stats are not comparable to jeters. In the past couple of years Jeter has not had the stats of tejada
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/BA_career.shtmlif jeter is going to go to the HOF, then several more guys of this era are going to have to go before him....so far, jeter is ranking #61 in career BA....but, if he keeps it up, i'll agree he should go to the HOF, but not right now...there is no telling what he will do in the next few years.
10/12/2004 9:55:57 PM
besides, jeter wasnt even comparable to his present third baseman, arod
10/12/2004 9:58:15 PM
^^^^ Oh im sorry I thought the MVP voters voted based on individual seasons and the Hall of Famers stuck to things like career stats...Jeter has a World Series MVP and five straight All-star games....You want to compare RBIs between a leadoff hitter and a clean-up hitter? That's coolTejada 754 RBIJeter 693 RBIYou're okay if I bring up runs scored then too I assumeTejada 681Jeter 1037Wow that's awfully close.[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 9:59 PM. Reason : a]

you cant compare career stats between jeter and tejada. Tejada has not been a good player at all for but a few years. Proving that Jeter has better career stats than a guy who has sucked for a good portion of his career proves nothing.
10/12/2004 10:07:51 PM
Ok, here is jeter compared to rest of MLB, THIS YEAR[b][i][u] ,13th in runs, 15th in hits, 11th in DB's, 209th in 3b's, 70th in HR's,80th in RBI's, 30th TB's, 130 in BB's, 18th SB's, 166 OBP, 150 in SLG., 53rd in AVG.. Now some of those are pretty good, ie. Runs, hits, and doubles. But even those dont look that good when you look at his order in the lineup and the people surrounding him in the lineup this year. Someone who hits 1/2 in the order needs to be much higher in OBP, BB's, steals. Once again the stats dont lie
10/12/2004 10:09:08 PM
^^Guess who brought up Tejada[Edited on October 12, 2004 at 10:09 PM. Reason : ^^]
10/12/2004 10:09:43 PM
ITS ONE FUCKING YEAR...god damn
10/12/2004 10:10:14 PM
i never brought up tejada....all i have been doing is talking about jeter and his career stats, which is what some were claiming his fame to the HOF
10/12/2004 10:12:20 PM
You are talking about ONE season. And this was a down season for himThe HOF is based on career stats.Tell me where I EVER said Tejada wasn't an awesome shortstop. With A-rod at third now Tejada is clearly the best hitting shortstop in the league. No one is going to argue with you about that.Tejada isn't playing tonight so its no wonder the announcers aren't talking about him.
10/12/2004 10:12:49 PM
exactly which is what i have been partially talking about, you seem to keep forgetting the THIS YEAR phrase in my posts, read

it'll be the yankees and the damn braves again this year I think the sox deserve a world series chance, but fuck that, yankees all the way
10/12/2004 10:17:00 PM
Oh ok, so you wanna do a tejada/jeter career comparison G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Tejada-- 1098 4237 681 1171 231 13 190 754 335 615 53 21 .276 .336 .472 .808 Jeter 1366 5513 1037 1734 283 42 150 693 559 972 201 52 .315 .385 .463 .848 With Jeter having 270 more Games played, 1300 more AB's, i would say he is doing really well40 less homers, 60 less rbi's, you also gotta look at the lineup tejada has been in as well as their positions in the batting order, jeter isnt doing so hott for a typical 1/2 hitter. and i dont even like tejada but i guess if you gotta use him to downplay the jeter hype then i am all for it
10/12/2004 10:17:26 PM

He was on a sucky team this year, but you can't say he didn't have his chances with the A's.

10/12/2004 10:22:50 PM
if you say everyone on that list deserves a shot at HOF than, i will agree that jeter deserves his shot too...i just thought the HOF was for players that just blow the competition away, and i didn't get that from everyone on that list...
