Yeah, don't get why the Big 12 would want Miami. They're Notre Dame without the fanbase, i.e. one huge white elephant. They could take Florida State and that would be the conference's in to the Florida recruiting market.[Edited on May 23, 2012 at 2:26 PM. Reason : .]
5/23/2012 2:25:39 PM
i'm pretty sure both notre dame and miami's football teams make money... so they're like the opposite of a white elephant, no?
5/23/2012 2:30:08 PM
Miami will be a tough sell to anybody with that nevin shapiro shit still on the table.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/19132507/florida-state-was-supposed-to-save-acc-but-instead-its-killing-itIf the ACC does dissolve, how would you see things getting split up? Any worries of us getting left out of the picture (like Iowa State and Kansas State were about to do if the Big 12 dissolved)?[Disclaimer: Gregg Doyel doesn't know anything about anything so though I don't agree that either FSU is gone or that the ACC would die without them, let's for the sake of discussion assume these to be true.]
5/23/2012 10:55:02 PM
Thanks for mentioning Gregg Doyel. I almost clicked that link.
5/23/2012 11:05:20 PM
5/23/2012 11:16:11 PM
Okay, I clicked it. Is this FSU thing really that serious? A year ago the Big XII was hours away from being dissolved -- Kansas was going to join the MAAC or some shit -- and now it's a foregone conclusion that the ACC is toast. Whatever, dudes.
5/23/2012 11:45:33 PM
The first post of this thread is still winning.
5/23/2012 11:47:54 PM
no, it's not serious a booster whined, it got picked up, and everyone who isn't an idiot realizes that nobody is going anywhere none of this would have popped up had FSU not been a dog shit program for the last decade
5/23/2012 11:49:42 PM

I liked the part where Gregg said half the ACC will never win shitThat's why the pay him the big bucks
5/23/2012 11:50:47 PM
Here's a guess of how thing's would go if the ACC fell apart (assuming we don't latch on to UNC and VT doesn't latch on to UVa):Big 12 takes FSU, Clemson, Miami, Georgia TechBig Ten grabs UNC, Duke, Virginia, MarylandSEC takes VT, NC StateNew conference forms (basically old Big East) - major basketball player, second tier football: Wake, BC, Syracuse, Pitt, UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Temple with St Johns, Notre Dame, Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall as non football membersRest of current Big East officially returns to the second tier across the board.
5/23/2012 11:59:40 PM
Why do people get so hard over redrawing conferences
5/24/2012 12:06:06 AM
because its the offseason and there isn't much else to talk about
5/24/2012 12:07:49 AM
Up to this point, I've always seen the ACC taking on schools to become one of the power conferences. The idea of the ACC falling apart is relatively new and if it does happen, which I hope it doesn't, we wouldn't be a domino with a lot of power and could either end up in a good situation (the SEC) or on the outside looking in. It's an interesting hypothetical for the offseason.[Edited on May 24, 2012 at 12:16 AM. Reason : .]
5/24/2012 12:16:05 AM
The SEC is not a good situation for NC State
5/24/2012 12:19:37 AM
Why not? Financially it would be huge. Being the only NC SEC school would give us football recruiting advantage. I think in basketball we would have a better shot separating ourselves from UNC/Duke and aside from Kentucky/Florida, who has a better basketball tradition than us?
5/24/2012 12:23:25 AM
The ACC is perfect for us.The SEC or Big 12 or Big Ten will not invite us. We're are unfortunately in the bottom 3rd portion of the ACC in regards to attractiveness. If the ship sinks, we're going down with it. Fuck football, anyway. (re:Ernie-If we lucked up and found ourselves in the SEC, it would be a great situation, sure we'd never win a damn thing meaningful in football, but we haven't done that in 100 years of playing , so who cares?)]
5/24/2012 12:24:22 AM
If State leaves the ACC or whatever the ACC becomes, I'll probably stop giving a fuck about State.
5/24/2012 12:32:14 AM
maybe I'm trying to find a reason, but why I think the SEC may be a possibility...1. Having a presence in growing NC helps expand to a new market (which is why they don't want Clemson, GT, FSU, Miami - they already have those markets)2. They'd rather have UNC, but UNC won't go there because of academics.3. Duke and Wake wouldn't fit at all (nor would Duke be interested, especially without UNC)That leaves us...

guy on the radio (Matt Chernoff) was comparing teams in the ACC to the Southwest Conference today... back in the early 90s teams like TCU, Houston and Rice were like "oh its ok, the SW Conf. will be around forever, all this leaving talk because Arkansas left is silly dont worry about things!"And then Texas, TT, A&M were like "see ya bitches! good luck" and they were left with nothing and the conference soon folded. He was basically comparing FSU to Arkansas (but with FSU being even MORE powerful/influential than Arkansas)... if they leave others will follow (he predicted VT, GT, Clemson) and the rest would be left with shit and the ACC would soon fold with UNC and Duke going somewhere together.[Edited on May 24, 2012 at 1:33 AM. why does anyone think GT is attractive? their half-filled football stadium and awful basketball program? or the "atlanta market", that only cares about THA DAWGS?? [Edited on May 24, 2012 at 9:50 AM. Reason : rollin]
5/24/2012 9:49:46 AM
Because no one knows what they're talking about.
5/24/2012 9:55:22 AM
We should stay ahead of the curve & start talking to the Big South
5/24/2012 10:05:01 AM
We're probably the Houston of the SWC scenario.Looks like ECU will get their rivalry after all when we join C-USA.
5/24/2012 10:08:04 AM
After the SEC begs State to join, we will win multiple championships in both football and basketball immediately.
5/24/2012 11:00:35 AM
The thing I can't figure out is which conference are we going to join when we decide to leave the SEC
5/24/2012 11:02:01 AM
Become an independent with our own TV network.
5/24/2012 11:05:58 AM
We'd rake in so much cash as an independent.

four team conference with notre dame, ncsu, ucla, and texas. it's only right that flagship universities of each region of the country be grouped together[Edited on May 24, 2012 at 11:22 AM. Reason : ]
5/24/2012 11:22:33 AM
Meh, we're better than them.
5/24/2012 11:42:03 AM
I hate Notre Dame.
5/24/2012 11:48:14 AM
^^^ The only problem with that scenario is that it would be really hard for anyone to stay undefeated against such tough competition and that would make it harder to get to the 'ship.

That makes no sense because mules > horses
