student #2 checking in, ncsu is not going to cancel evening classes, i don't think there's really a risk of anything happening before 8pm anyway.

I visit this site almost everyday, but I don't comment much. I kinda feel like everyone knows each other and I'm the new kid who is clueless.

I'll be shocked if NCSU cancels morning classes for tomorrow.

We only know each other b/c we've been posting since we were undergrads. For some of us that was 10+ years ago. We're always happy to get new blood!
2/11/2014 3:18:25 PM
things are way less hostile to noobs nowadays than years back, we've all mellowed with age I believe.

The european model is calling for way more snow.
2/11/2014 3:26:00 PM
^^ that's an improvement over his first model...i could still do with less ice, but anything less than .75" is welcome
2/11/2014 3:43:08 PM
i live around the border of I and J and we're already pretty close to .25" of ice
2/11/2014 3:56:47 PM
I'm a county over from ^ outside of J and we have at least 6 inches of snow with ice underneath. idk how to gauge how much ice there is.
2/11/2014 4:01:10 PM
2/11/2014 4:03:15 PM
My guess for downtown:2.5" snow and .5" ice
2/11/2014 4:11:16 PM
Well crap. This will destroy travel plans.

This thread seems to have more usable layman data and less weather jargon, fwiwhttp://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/42795-burns-big-banter-bonanza

What is the forecast for Kaplan?

WRAL continuing to project less snow than NWS forecasts
2/11/2014 4:48:53 PM
2/11/2014 4:49:07 PM
Similar
2/11/2014 4:52:56 PM
Yeah I was gonna say they look pretty much the same to me
2/11/2014 4:55:09 PM
I wish Fishel would give it this treatment[Edited on February 11, 2014 at 4:59 PM. Reason : or maybe i'm just thinking of elizabeth gardner]
2/11/2014 4:59:14 PM
so what they're trying to tell me is that im getting more snow right now than i'll get out of the system tomorrow? gtfo
2/11/2014 5:01:09 PM
no?
2/11/2014 5:03:20 PM
Ah I was going by this one
2/11/2014 5:03:25 PM
lots of ice in the trees and some pretty stiff winds means it's not looking good for the power lines. if my power goes out my well pump is probably gonna freeze and bust and then i'm fucked.
2/11/2014 5:10:53 PM
I have a generator to run my well. I have to make a 220v cord for it though. As far as heat goes it does not really matter since my furnace still wont run half the time and I have this kerosene heater already setup!
2/11/2014 5:17:33 PM
Jordan is lowballing it.... even lower then NWS.. WxRisk and Huffman are generally higher then NWS... so frustrating! There is so much uncertainty with this storm! This is the first time I want to actually prepare in case the ice comes and we lose power. Most of the time I laff at people getting bread and milk at the last minute but this time I will probably be a part of that group.
2/11/2014 5:24:50 PM
2/11/2014 5:35:15 PM
Is that a slight shift east in some of the models? This is crazy from the ice storm warning down in GA:
2/11/2014 5:36:04 PM
ABC11 is saying 1-3" snow in Wake Co. I've also seen 2-4, 3-5, and even 4-6 for the exact same area. Nobody really knows what the hell is going on.
2/11/2014 5:36:09 PM
Yup.As well as just rain, rain/sleet, sleet/snow, and all 3 together. The next 36 hours should be interesting.
2/11/2014 5:40:36 PM
It's pretty cray here
2/11/2014 5:57:26 PM
^ where you at? the grocery store?
2/11/2014 6:00:27 PM
Greenville and Goldsboro got pretty good snow fall totals today.Im expecting lots of ice here in Raleigh tomorrow.Last time this happened, the ice fell so fast and then the snow that it was double trouble.
2/11/2014 6:09:29 PM
It's been snowing in Charlotte since about 9:30 this morningRoads (sidewalks, parking lots, etc) are still fine though, but lots of accumulation on cars, grass, trees, etc[Edited on February 11, 2014 at 7:29 PM. Reason : .]
2/11/2014 7:29:22 PM
Fayetteville got 5 inches
2/11/2014 7:38:54 PM
Raleigh got -0"
2/11/2014 7:45:35 PM
When are we expecting snow tomorrow? 2-4pm? I want to be home before the snow.
2/11/2014 8:09:31 PM
Possible start around 9 am probable start around noon
2/11/2014 8:10:49 PM
Have been out since 5 but saw Fishel on twitter basically shit on RDUs snow accumulation. 1-2".He is usually conservative, but RDU is in a massive snow rut this last four years. Worst in region by a mile relative to average.[Edited on February 11, 2014 at 8:33 PM. Reason : shit new bern got more today than rdu has I three years combined]
2/11/2014 8:32:58 PM
state closes after noon tomorrow until noon Thursday.
