don't bother.I believe StateCole said it was win all but 3 in order to get a 6 seed, so you do the math from there.Oh and pg 39[Edited on January 22, 2010 at 12:52 PM. Reason : p.dwy]

^So we made the playoffs last year with 97 points, and in 6th place in the conference. Right now we have 37 points through 49 games. To reach 97 points (like last year) we would have to win 30 of the remaining 33 games.Looking at it differently, the Ducks had the least points of any playoff bound team last year with 91. To get 91 points, we would have to win 27 out of the remaining 33 games. But the East is sucking this year, so the 8th seed could possibly have less than 91 points[Edited on January 22, 2010 at 1:13 PM. T0 make the playoffs - Canes need to go 25-7-0.Not going to happen - we should tank - and get Hull.
1/22/2010 1:47:52 PM
I agree, Hull is the way to go.

boy, that Staal guy sure doesn't do anything!
1/23/2010 1:44:59 PM
haha. only 4 goals in 4 periods since becoming captain. what a slacker.
1/23/2010 1:46:38 PM
A heating up Eric Staal plus a healthy Cam Ward = Oilers get top pick. We need Maurice to send Rod out there for some top minutes and put Gritty Veteran Aaron Ward on the top defensive pairing with Wallin.
1/23/2010 1:49:48 PM
Pretty much the whole Western Conference is very good this year and all battling for the playoffs, Edmonton may not win but a handful of games from here on out. We have no shot at finishing last in the league this year. As long as we get a top 3 pick, I would be fine.
1/23/2010 1:58:20 PM
fuck that, make our lines as follows:GRITTY VETERAN- Brindy - ColeLarose - Nonstopolous - WallinAlberts - Sutter - CarsonStaal - Walker (while injured) - CullenPitkanen - SamsonovWhitney - GleasonTlusty - DwyerLegace (for every fucking game)THE FIX IS IN!!
1/23/2010 1:58:49 PM
Maybe we don't have to realign the lines. Just put our defense out there and not even Cam Ward can do shit. Maurice must have not gotten the memo about the top pick though, he started the Staal line after it went to 3-1, not the Brindamour line.

yeah, i have a feeling that we are going to end up trading pitkanenwhich would be very sad indeed
1/24/2010 2:51:38 PM
I'll hold off judgment of a potential Pitkanen trade until I see the return.
1/24/2010 3:05:34 PM
I think Whitney just increased his trade stock ten-fold with that drive and undressing of 3 Bruins guys finished off by a sweet feed to Sutter for a goal. That was definitely a LOL at Sutter looking up at the replay and going "WOW!"
1/24/2010 6:30:21 PM
^ Agreed...that play was disgusting. Hopefully we get a good pick for him and he resigns with us over the Summer
1/24/2010 6:56:22 PM
We are now 29th place, and I have a feeling we will not be 30th again. Edmonton is going to disappear quickly behind us. Interesting note this morning that said Whitney will consider waiving his NTC if the team he goes to will sign him to an extension. That would indicate he is not interested in leaving as a rental and signing back here this summer. Also, Jussi Jokinen is 2nd in NHL scoring among Finnish players. Not deserving of being on the Olympic team though folks!

-Joe Corvo may play tomorrow in New York-Ruutu is at least a week away-Cole is at least a week away-Legace is back
1/26/2010 1:40:42 PM
hope Cole hurries up and gets back on the ice soon. He'll play hard for a game or two, then go back to being his awful self, ensuring we finish no better than 29th!
1/26/2010 1:48:36 PM
I loathe Erik Cole.Loathe him.
1/26/2010 1:59:58 PM
Maybe Erik Cole can come back, go on a hot streak before the deadline, and we can pawn him off on someone. Wishful thinking, though. He is JR and Mo's golden boy.
1/26/2010 2:01:12 PM
but then we'll lose that one STH because Cole is gone...
1/26/2010 2:55:19 PM
I'll be at the game tomorrow night at the Garden. Amazing how a quick vacation between jobs coincided with the Canes being in New York. I didn't think ahead though when coming up, so the Canes gear is in Raleigh, but will probably stop by the NHL Store in Manhattan and get some stuff. I'm sitting in section 133, the side the 'Canes shoot twice, which after reading some of what the Rangers have done lately, I'll probably see most of the action. I love when Rangers fans try to give hell to me at the RBC Center, now I can't wait to see what happens at the Garden. Hopefully it's a good game in that it keeps us in the Hall/Seguin/Fowler sweepstakes.Where was the Whitney and signing extension tidbit mentioned? What would we want for Pitkanen in trade return anyways? If only we could send him to Boston for Toronto's first rounder, then we could potentially get 2/3 of the Hall/Seguin/Fowler sweepstakes.
1/26/2010 6:02:28 PM
^Good luck at the NHL store. I was up there right before christmas and it was all Boston and Philly shirts/jerseys (because of the Winter Classic). There was hardly any Canes stuff represented and also hardly any Anaheim stuff (my west coast team). There was, however, a decent number of Whalers merchandise in the store. But the employees were pretty fun to talk to.

i just remembered something that i used to think when i was a kid....i knew that both the Knicks and the Rangers played in MSG, but i thought it had 2 arena sections side by side (no idea that ice was under the court lol)
1/27/2010 8:53:49 PM
^ha. you're not alone. a bunch of people don't know the process of changing the surfaces.I've heard many a person ask "So how long does it take the freeze the ice surface for the hockey games?"

1/27/2010 9:02:10 PM
I don't understand why everyone here is talking like the Canes need to finish last in order to pick first overall. Because of the draft lottery, if they finish in 30th, then they essentially have a 50/50 (48.2%) shot of getting the first pick. The chances obviously go down if they finish worse, but still. The bottom five teams all have a shot at number one, so as long as the Canes don't start fucking lighting it up, then they are still in the race.Chicago finished in 26th and picked Patrick Kane first in '07.

^^ And we finished last in '03 and picked second. To a certain extent I don't think it matters because I'm not convinced that we're not taking Seguin no matter what.
