We beat ourselvesHowever I come out of this game with a lot more optimism about the season than after last year's openerWe'll get our swagger back over the next couple weeks, then Pitt will be another good game
9/4/2009 11:11:55 AM
no wai, we lost?

LOL Yup.After the fumble and 20 more minutes of failsauce on both teams' parts I kinda hoped SC would open up on us so I could go do something else. It was 3 excruciating hours of "C'mon guys, their shitty offense and our defense is keeping you in this game. Just make one play happen!" and then nothing.
9/4/2009 11:26:02 AM
after the pitt game we will be able to answer two questions. was that game just an offensive fluke?is our defense really good?if both of those are NO then it will be a loong season.
9/4/2009 11:31:41 AM
Doesn't SC play UGA next week? That should tell us a lot about them, too
9/4/2009 12:10:10 PM
I hope USC beats the piss out of everybody they play this year
9/4/2009 12:10:35 PM
I do too, but I think Florida, Bama, and pretty much everyone else on their schedule won't allow that
9/4/2009 12:14:22 PM
Time lapse I took of the game, in case anyone is interested.http://news14.com/content/top_stories/614218/carter-finley-stadium-time-lapse/

My thoughts and observationsDana Bible needs to take the leash off of Russell Wilson, I know they are trying to preserve his health but he looked tentative. The OLine looked lost especially Wallace and his back to back penalties. The Tackles were slow reacting to SC's speedy ends.TJ looked slow don't know if he put on muscle or what. The D looked pretty good at bending and not breaking considering there only score came from an extremely short field. The offense better find its rhythym in these next 2 games or we are in trouble.SEC officials missed some pretty blatant calls on SC the two big penalties they called were blatant but they missed an obvious call.
9/4/2009 12:21:24 PM
South Carolina also beat themselves. They had a turnover on our side of the field (remember, we got our only points off that turnover) and a penalty that called back a sure touchdown (he did push off, but if Garcia didn't underthrow, he wouldn't have had to push off). Not to mention two botched field goals.Unfortunately the better team won last night...and it sucks, but I don't think USC is that good.
9/4/2009 12:33:34 PM
everyone trying to put all the blame on the WRs for the drops mustve only been half watching the game. most of RWs deep passes were underthrown. not to the extent that the shitty SoCar QB underthrew that offensive PI early in the game, but enough that it makes the play difficult for the WR. With that said, Jay Smith has to catch the TD and Williams had awful positioning on 4th down. Now Wilson was under heavy pressure all night, so it's hard to ask for much more from him...especially if he's going to look that slow against an SEC team and TOB/Bible have him only using 60% of his ability
9/4/2009 12:37:44 PM
9/4/2009 12:40:48 PM
This is the challenge with opening against a stronger opponent vs. a weaker 1AA or something like that. Not an easy thing to do to "work out the kinks" against an SEC opponent. Good thing is we got 2 games where we should be able to get things clicking I hope. Maybe they tried and I missed it, but I wish they would have done some more screens to try to slow up that rush off the edge a bit.
9/4/2009 12:43:16 PM
^6 thanks for that time lapse, pretty cool!i think i can tell when ppl were doing the wave, hehe.and GG to the students who were there so early in 7/8[Edited on September 4, 2009 at 12:45 PM. Reason : carrotz]

i for one was praying we'd throw the ball :xthat may have been one of the most boring uneventful football games i've seen in a very long time oh and to like the 20 or so people wearing red in the student section way to be that guy... overall I thought it went over really well. I'm glad we didn't fuck it up.
9/4/2009 1:45:05 PM
as much improvement we have made year to year, it's still painfully clear that national relevance for this program is still years away
9/4/2009 2:01:44 PM
they ran out of white shirts to give out. not the students' fault
9/4/2009 2:03:16 PM
way to plan a white out & run out of shirts.
9/4/2009 2:19:06 PM
its not like we were gonna win the national championship so all our games throught hte pitt game are like a 4 week preseason.
9/4/2009 2:46:09 PM
9/4/2009 2:50:54 PM
^that is one good thing about our schedule. We still have a shot at a BCS bowl. We've got 3 more weeks to get our shit straight before we hit our conference schedule.
9/4/2009 2:51:39 PM
When a 300 lbs D linemen is running down Russell Wilson in high gear you know you are in some trouble. Was Russell wilson slower or was USC's defense that fast? There is alot to take out of this game comparing the defenses size and depth. And how can you actually tell how good our offense is when their secondary was all over our receivers? Hard to tell where we really stand.
9/4/2009 3:23:52 PM
We play in the ACC, thankfully... and not the SEC. We might be Top 10 in that conference. Might. We'll probably be Top 4 in ours...
9/4/2009 3:27:01 PM
^ yeah, i was pretty upset last night, but i'm more of this mind now.although w/ that said, it's still hard to get excited for football after this game.
9/4/2009 3:32:52 PM
the thing that really sucks about it is that this game was so sloppy on both ends that we really get no idea how good the team is until the pitt game
9/4/2009 4:01:28 PM
9/4/2009 4:09:01 PM
we should have been blown out straight up. luckily our D showed up and combined with some USC miscues we stayed in the game. the 2 biggest things that bother me about this game are that we didnt take advantage of ONE opportunity. secondly our O tackles were fucking SHIT[Edited on September 4, 2009 at 4:47 PM. I don't think Andrew is very happy about his performance last night either
9/4/2009 4:50:33 PM
that third personal foul was actually supposed to be on george bryan, i'm relatively sure.[Edited on September 4, 2009 at 5:06 PM. Reason : i don't think wallace was even on the field for that one.]
9/4/2009 5:05:47 PM
9/4/2009 5:44:58 PM
^because he was pass and not run first
9/4/2009 5:47:22 PM
wilson was reluctant to run and by the time he did, he was screwed. Wilson's acceleration <<<< south carolina defender running full speed
9/4/2009 5:47:57 PM
could have something to do w/ the brace on his knee.
9/4/2009 5:49:24 PM
9/4/2009 6:06:48 PM
was anyone in South end zone where the like 35 year old SC fan came over like 10 feet into our section and just stood there with his hands on his hips after the long bomb that ended the game?i just started laughing because some students just jumped in his face and basically forced him back to the south carolina section.
9/4/2009 6:20:33 PM
for you stupids students who started the wave in the 4th quarter on an important drive. dumb asses.
9/4/2009 7:00:36 PM
that was reaaaaaaaally annoying
9/4/2009 7:02:08 PM
what should they have been doing? making noise? we were on offensenote, i hate the wave as well. but who fucking cares. [Edited on September 4, 2009 at 7:03 PM. Reason : .]

9/4/2009 7:04:02 PM
give me a break, that shit was not loud
9/4/2009 7:07:27 PM
Has something happened with Markus Kuhn?
9/4/2009 7:07:53 PM
THE WAVE IS FOR BORING SPORTS LIKE FUCKING BASEBALL, KEEP THAT SHIT OUT OF CARTER FINLEY
9/4/2009 7:42:52 PM
but...but willie young wanted it
9/4/2009 8:07:52 PM
touche... so do it at half time, the show always sucks anyways
9/4/2009 8:14:41 PM
Exactly...you do the wave when theres a rain delay (NASCAR), or its a complete blowout....NOT when its the fourth quarter, your team is down by 4 and in the opponents territory. God I cant stand that shit.
